Walter/Jaeger Wedding

Originally contributed to Polk County FLGenWeb on or by 3 Jul 2001, by Audrey Vogel.

This is the wedding dinner for Fred Tollef Walter and Wanda Frances Jaeger, held at the Jaeger Cafe 15 December 1924.  In the far background from left to right, starting with the little girl in white: Edith Pauline Jaeger (Baker), Fred Tollef Walter, Wanda Frances Jaeger, Ernest "Papa" Jaeger, Wanda "Mama" Jaeger, Olga Bryan Jaeger (Bridges).

Fred and Wanda Walter were my mother's parents (she was Dora Wanda Walter Brandt).  Edith and Olga were sisters of the bride.  Presumably somewhere in this shot are her brothers, Fred and Henry "Heinie", probably too young to attend were Alma (Barker) and Ernest, Jr.

I'm not sure of the address of the restaurant at the time of this photo, I know the family restaurant was originally located "near the old Polk Canning Company", then was moved to "a small building across the street from the early site of the State Bank of Haines City on Ingraham Avenue.. on the site of the former Van Buren Hotel, which had not yet been built", and finally moved into a "large and modern restaurant on Ingraham Avenue at the north end of Sixth Street."

Following the photo is a copy of the newspaper write up of the wedding, which identifies the restaurant as the "Highland Cafe".  But it also misidentifies the best man, John Walters, as the groom's brother.  Fred had no brothers, his father was John T., but he had died years before the marriage.  The Marriage Certificate is witnessed by "J.D. Walters, Jr.", which leads me to believe I have no idea who he was.  Also, by this time my family had dropped the "s", they were Walter, not Walters (maybe this was done to avoid confusion with this other "Walters" family?).  But it also gives some other names of people who may, or may not have joined in the dinner.
