Hernando County Cemeteries

Bayport Cemetery

This is one of the oldest cemeteries in the county. The cemetery surveys have been supplemented with information obtained from published obituaries, Garnett Funeral Home Records and personal knowledge of family members, county residents and other sources.

Directions: This cemetery is located in the woods near where the old Bayport Hotel stood. All the headstones were removed by someone years ago. They spent several years in the basement of the Old Jailhouse. Sometime in the 1980's they were taken to the May-Stringer Heritage House Museum for safe keeping because every time they were replaced they disappeared yet again. Over the years this cemetery has been vandalised time and time again. Because of the ongoing vandalism, desecration and remoteness of its location, I am declining to publish the exact location of this cemetery.
