Muse Cemetery

The second largest cemetery is called the Muse Cemetery located on Muse Road in the Muse community. This cemetery is originally a one square acre of land that was started by Martha Altman many years ago as a private family cemetery. The Muse Cemetery was passed onto her son, Hoyt Altman, who donated the land and cemetery to the county for continued use in the early 1980's. Some problems arose in 1987 regarding who could be buried in this cemetery. The board agreed at this time for immediate family only of persons currently buried in the cemetery to be interned. They further agreed to make a fifty dollar ($50) charge for any plots that were used. This cemetery was taken under county control so that records of who and where persons were buried could be maintained. Prior to this acceptance Mr. Altman or his wife would give permission for local individuals to be buried in this cemetery without any hard records being kept. This cemetery is currently maintained by Glades County the same as the Ortona Cemetery.
