Will of Sallie Kate (Callahan Sharpe) Knight, Bradford County, FL 1897

                               Before me J R Richard, County Judge in and for said County, personally appeared Joseph M. Alvarez who being duly sworn says that Sallie Kate Knight late of the County aforesaid, died on the 13th day of January A.D. 1897, leaving a last Will and Testament, in which the said Joseph M. Alvarez was nominated as Executor of said last Will and Testament. And the said Joseph M. Alvarez further swears that he will well and truly perform the last Will and Testament of the Testator, pay all her just and lawful debts, so far as her goods, chattels, rights and credits will extend, and make a true and correct inventory of the same, and render a true account of his administration when thereto required.

To Whom it May Concern:
This is to certify that I, A.L. Scott, M.D. the physician attending Mrs. Sallie Kate during her recent sickness made three professional visits during the 6th day of July, 1896, as follows. One in the morning, one at noon and one at night and do testify to the soundness of her mind on said day and was at all times previous to said date while under my treatment.

In the name of God Amen.
I, Sallie Kate Knight, lately Sallie Kate Sharpe, and in maidenhood Sallie Kate Callahan, a married woman in the county of Bradford and State of Florida, wife of Matthew A Knight of the same County and State, being weak in body, but of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, considering the uncertainly of this transitory life, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, to wit:
I direct that my body be interred in the burial ground known as Crosby Lake Cemetery according to the rites and ceremonies of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, should my death take place within the State of Florida, but if I should die elsewhere, then in such place as shall be expedient and decent
And as to such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to entrust me with I dispose of the same as follows.
Item. I direct that all my debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as possible and for such purpose, and for the further purpose of discharging any and all lien or liens of any name or nature existing or to exist upon, or affecting any portion of my estate.  I authorize, empower and direct that my Executor do sell and dispose of any portion or portions of my estate real and personal not herein specified, otherwise disposed of at public or private sale as shall seem best and most beneficial to the interest of my estate. My said Executor being the judge, making such deeds of conveyance or other instruments of writing as may be necessary to carry this.- Sallie Kate Knight.-
power fully into effect, and from the proceeds of such sale or sales that he immediately discharge satisfy and pay any and all such debts, liens, and charges together with his own compensation therefor and the expenses thereof.
Item = I do not wish my husband Matthew A Knight to have or receive under this will or in any other manner any part of portion of the estate real or personal of which I shall die possessed nor any interest therein of any nature or extent what-so ever, and

This I declare to be my will not from any lack of love toward him but from a knowledge that his days which are few are amply provided for, and for the further reason that all my property was acquired by me before my marriage with the said Knight and by right should be enjoyed by my children.


Item = I give and bequeathe to my beloved daughter Lucia Eloise Alvarez my family Bible and my wedding ring.


Item = I give and bequeathe to my beloved son John R Sharpe his father's Oxford Bible nd his father's watch


Item = I give, devise and bequeathe to my beloved daughter Lucia, Eloise Alvarez an undivided one half interest in and to all my property both real and personal of every name and nature of which I shall die possessed where soever the same may be, subject only with the remaining undivided one half to the foregoing specified bequests and directions.


Item = I give, devise and bequeathe to my beloved son John R Sharpe an undivided one half interest in and to all my property both real and personal of every name and nature of which I shall die possessed wheresoever the same may be, subject only, with the other undivided one half to the foregoing specific bequests and directions.


Item = It is my desire that the Right Reverend Edwin G/ Weed be appointed guardian. - Sallie Kate Knight - of my son John R. Sharpe, together with my son-in-law, Joseph M. Alvarez as joint guardian with him if the same shall be or seem expedient to him the said Edwin G. Weed and I hereby charge my beloved son to give to his honored guardian that respect, love, and obedience due to me.


And I do hereby make and ordain my esteemed son-in-law, Joseph M. Alvarez the sole executor of this my last will and testament reposing full confidence in him to perform the trust hereby committed to him but never the less requiring him as is right and proper for the full protection of my sons estate to give bond as required by law to be approved by the County Judge of the County where this Will shall be probated, and in such sum as he shall direct.


In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal to this my last Will and Testament written by my direction on this and the foregoing two sheets of paper to each of which severally I have also set my hand and I have signed the same in the presence of those following subscribing witnesses and in their presence declared and published the same as my last will and testament this the 6th day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety six.                                             Sallie Kate Knight   {seal}

The writing contained on this and the two preceding sheets of paper was signed and sealed by the above named Sallie Kate Knight in our presence and was by her in our presence declared and published as and for her last Will and Testament and we have hereto subscribed our names at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other this 6th day of July A.D. 1896

Frazee who being by me duly sworn that he was personally present as a subscribing and attesting witness with Eliza Husband and Mary E. Robinson who were also present as subscribing witnesses and saw the Testator Sallie Kate Knight - subscribe her name to the instrument of writing hereto annexed as and for her last Will and Testament and that the said Sallie Kate Knight did then and there in the presence of said Eliza Husband, Mary E. Robinson and affirm, publish and declare the same to be her last Will and Testament. That the said Eliza Husband, Mary E Robinson and the said James L. Frazee as attesting witnesses did then and there at the special request of said Sallie Kate Knight and in her presence and in the presence of each other subscribe their names thereto as attesting witnesses. And the said James L. Frazee further swears that he verily believes said instrument of writing hereto annexed so subscribed, published, declared and attested as aforesaid to be the last Will and Testament of said Testator the said Sallie Kate Knight.

of the said Sallie Kate Knight deceased, to Probate and it is therefore ordered, adjudged and decreed, that the same is hereby admitted to Probate this 24th day of March, A.D 1897
