Gartman-Beniger Vows Said At St. Peter Claver Church
Altar arrangement of white gladioli were used to decorate the sanctuary of
St. Peter Claver Church, today at noon, for the wedding of Miss Mary Jo
Gartman and William J. Beniger. The Rev. Edward Vogel officiated at the
nuptial rite.
St. Peter Claver Girls Choir provided music for the wedding with Mrs. Loraine
Fale at the organ. Selections included "Ave Maria" and "On This Day" as the
bride placed a bouquet of white carnations, with blue ribbon tie, at the
altar of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Parents of the principals are Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy H. Gartman, 2916 Wedemeyer
St., and Mr. and Mrs. John W. Beniger, 2624 N. 8th St. Mr. Gartman presented
his daughter in the ceremony.
Mrs. Dennis Gerhartz was matron of honor and Miss Linda Beniger, the
bridegroom's cousin, a bridesmaid. They were gowned in floor-length dresses
of powder blue Karati, styled with three-quarter length sleeves and white lace
cuffs. Shirred back panels were topped with self-fabric bows and bow
cascade bands of similar fabric completed their attire. They held colonial
bouquets of Marguerite daisies accented with camellia and variegated
pitisporum.
For her wedding, the former Miss Gartman chose a redindigote-styled gown of
blue Chantilly lace over a sleeveless sheath of silk peau. Long sleeves and
a high scooped neckline bordered with scalloped Chantilly ruffles were other
features of her dress. The fitted back had an attached chapel train,
bordered with scalloped Chantilly lace ruffles. Her chapel veil of blue silk
illusion was attached to a queen's crown of pearls, and she carried a cascade
of lilies of the valley and white Marguerite daisies, accented with camellia
and ivy foliage.
Best man in the ceremony was Thomas C. Meyer, while John Prigge of Oostburg
served as groomsman. Guests were ushered to their places in church by Dennis
Gerhartz and Dennis Knuth.
Sheboygan Yacht Club will be the scene of the buffet dinner and reception for
225 guests.
After a week at a summer home on an east-central Wisconsin lake, the
newlyweds will be at home at 1541 S. 8th St.
South High School is the bride's alma mater, after which she attended Stout
State University-Menomonie. Her husband was graduated from North High School
and attended Lakeshore Technical Institute-Sheboygan. He is a heavy
equipment operator employed by Beniger Excavating Co., Inc., which he serves
as vice president also.
