Fred Hoffmann (spelling used in the USA) was born September 26, 1829 in Altenglan, Rheinland, Bavaria (in what is now Rheinland-Pfalz), Germany.

Fred was the seventh of 13 children born to Johan Philipp Adam Hoffmann and Elisabeth Catharine Weber, a farming family in Altenglan.

On March 15, 1856 he married the former Mary Elizabeth Allmann in the City of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. They farmed in the Town of Lima near the village of Hingham, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. He was known as a very respected dairy farmer. He passed away on September 26, 1889 in the Town of Lima, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. He was survived by his wife, and eight children who were Jacob Charles, John, Mary, Sophia Dorothea, Frederick Phillip, George Peter, Emelia Catherine, and William.

He is interred in the Onion River Cemetery near the village of Waldo, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin.
