Mr. and Mrs. Wilhelm Ludke were pleasantly surprised by their children at their home, 2531 N.
Fifteenth street, on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary, Sunday.
A purse of gold was presented to the couple in honor of the event. A dinner was enjoyed and
the day was spent in the manner that people gathering in such an occasion would enjoy, talking
over past events, listening to victrola and other music, and having an all-around good time.
Mrs. Wilhelmine Luedke was born on November 5, 1854 and Wilhelm was born on February 8, 1851.
Both are natives of the village of Mechlin, province of Brandenburg, Germany, and they were
married there on November 7, 1876. They came to America in 1880, settling in Chicago. After
remaining there five years, they came to Sheboygan and have resided here ever since. Mr.
Luedke’s occupation has been that of light farming.
Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Luedke, of whom seven are still living. They are:
Charles Luedke, Mrs. Anna Hurtienne, Mrs. Ida Hinze, Mrs. Max Luedke, William Luedke, Alfred
Luedke and Herman Luedke, all of Sheboygan. There are also sixteen grandchildren.
During the celebration Sunday the following bit of verse appropriate to the occasion, was
read: “along the trail of by-gone years may all your thought take flight. Back through the
land of long ago to scenes of fond delight. And there at teach familiar turn, On
Recollection’ way, May memories past joys make bright, Your golden wedding day”
