Fifty Years Married
An interesting event in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. John Goggins took place at their home in Milwaukee on Monday of this week when that old couple, surrounded by their family and friends, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. John Goggins and Mary McCabe first saw the light of day in Ireland. The former was born Sept. 8th 1826 and the latter Nov. 11th, 1838. They came to America with their respective parents and located in the state of New York and later moved into the town of Russell, Sheboygan county. On November 5th, 1855, they were married at the Catholic church at St. Anna by Rev. Father Ell. They remained there until 1866, when they came to Chilton and located on a farm adjacent to this city on the north. Here they lived many years and reared a large family of children. Some fifteen years ago they disposed of their farm and moved into this city, where they lived until six years ago, when they moved to Milwaukee, and have since made their home in that city. The event was celebrated with high mass at St. Thomas' Catholic church, with Rev. Father E. J. Blackwell as celebrant, after which a reception was held at their home from three o'clock until six o'clock, and many friends called to offer congratulations. During the long residence of this old couple in this city they held a high place in the hearts of out people and all will join The Times in extending congratulations, and wishing that they may spared to celebrate many more happy anniversaries. Among those present were Jas. Goggins, wife and seven children, of Chilton; B. W. Goggins, wife and four children, Dr. R. J. Goggins, wife and one child, of Oconto Falls; A. L. Kersten, wife and two children, Milwaukee.
