NEWSPAPER
REPORTED DEATHS
IN OLD
OCONTO COUNTY 1929
Oconto Falls Herald
Thursday, April 18, 1929
Submitted by Richard LaBrosse

Joseph P. Gehling, who has been a resident in this city for the past thirty-five years, died in the city hospital at Oconto last Saturday at 10:55 a.m.  The deceased had been ailing for several years, and went to the hospital where he underwent a surgical operation.  His condition was so weakened, however, that recovery was impossible.

Mr. Gehling was born at Manitowoc April 4, 1857, where he grew to manhood.  He was married 37 years ago to Miss Mary McEwing.  He came to Oconto Falls in 1904 and this city has been his home since that time.  For the past four years he has not been engaged in active business, owing to his declining health.  For several years he served Oconto Falls village as its representative on the county board of supervisors, and for the past two years has been constable.

He is survived by four daughters and three sons, as follows: Miss Ellen Gehling, Mrs. F.A. Daniel, Mrs. R.A. Greb and Mrs. T. Hill, Robert, Lindle and Clarence Gehling.

The funeral services were conducted on Tuesday by Rev. H.A. Misdall, pastor of the M.E. Church, and burial was made in Woodland cemetery.

Mrs. John Keller of Milwaukee and Mrs. Louis Nequette of Wausau, sisters of the deceased, attended the funeral.
