Gathering this information
has been a chore! But, there were two things which benefited me greatly.
First, is the Oconto site, which has a great
deal of information. Second, is Rita. After stumbling across the Oconto
site, I contacted Rita, as suggested. She took the time, not only to answer
my many questions, she offered a number of suggestions. She pointed me
in directions I had not even considered. Her guidance helped make this
possible.
The Mineau Families of Oconto
New York vs. Wisconsin
Wisconsin won! When I first sent information to the Oconto
site, I had found the Mineau family in Maskinonge, Quebec, Canada in Canada’s
1861 Census, I had searched the 1851 Census to no avail. The church
records seemed very complete but there was a gap in baptism records, from
after the baptism of Victorie in June 1838, to the baptism of Xavier on
13 October 1852. Xavier’s baptism record reflected he had been born
on 25 August 1852. This was strange because in most cases, children
were baptized on the date of birth or within a very few days.
During the 14 year gap, these children were born, Edward 1840, Oliver
1843, George 1846, Frank 1847, Peter Eusebius 1847, and Louis 1849.
Many U.S. Census and birth records reflected Louis and Xavier had
been born in New York, while the birthplace of the others was shown as
Canada.
When I obtained a copy of the Oconto Obituary on Louis, it listed
his birthplace as Keeseville, New York.
I found the family on the 1850 U.S. Census, New York, Essex County,
Chesterfield Township (Page 238). Listed were, Peter (Pierre), his
wife Lucy, and children Peter, Victoria, Edward, Oliver, George, Frank,
Zeb (Peter Eusebius), and Lewis. I believe the family arrived in
New York sometime after Peter Eusebius’ birth in December 1847; and they
left soon after or just before Xavier’s birth on 25 August 1852.
After less than 5 years in New York, the family returned to Maskinonge,
where John, Adolph, Celestin, and Louise Elisabeth were born. Lucie
passed away in 1866 and Pierre remarried later the same year. In
1867, most of the family came to Oconto. In 1870 U.S. Census, Pierre
was living in Oconto with his new wife Sophia and children, Peter E., Louis,
Xavier, John, Adolph, Celestin (Silas), Louise E., and their child Fred.
Living close by were Edward and his family, and Frank and his new wife,
Domathilda Lacoursiere. Oliver had married Sarah Redmon and they
were living in Polk County.
Victorie remained in Maskinonge where she married Pierre Lacoursiere
and they had 11 children. George married Helene Lacoursiere in Maskinonge
where they stayed until after the birth of their 8th child in 1880.
In 1880 their family moved briefly to Oconto, before settling in Marinette.
I found no record of their oldest son, Pierre Eugene living in Wisconsin.
He did move to St. Louis, Missouri, where he married Bridget Hayes.
I found him on census records from 1860 to 1900, listed as Peter Miner.
Of those who had been in New York for less than 5 years, and later
came to Wisconsin in 1867:
Pierre Prudent Mineau passed away in Marinette,
1900
Edward Mineau passed away in Oconto, 1918
Oliver Mineau passed away in Polk Co.
Frank Mineau passed away in Menominee, MI., 1922.
Peter E. Mineau passed away in Oconto, 1920.
Louis who was born in New York, passed away in
Oconto, 1937.
Xavier who was born in New York, passed away
in Iron River, 1924.
George Mineau came to Oconto in 1880 and passed
away in Marinette, 1934.
I have found death records and obituaries on all of the children
except:
Victorie – No record of her leaving Canada.
Majorique (John) – the last record I found on him was the 1880 Census
listing him in Marinette. I could not find him after that.
Fred (always recorded as Meno) – listed on the 1930 Census in Lincoln
County, Wisconsin.

Obituary Marinette Eagle Star, Thursday, September 20, 1900: Nintey
Years Old - Peter Mineau father of Silas and George Mineau passed away
at former's home. Peter Mineau age ninety
years passed away this morning at four O'clock At the home of his
son Silas Mineau 1302 Garfield Ave. His death was due to general debility.
He is survived by his wife, eleven son's and
three daughters. He came here from Oconto last spring. The funeral
arrangements have not yet been made.

CALLED TO REST - Edward Mineau, Sr., Resident of City 51 Years - Passed
Away After Illness Seven Weeks
With Pleurisy - Edward Mineau, Sr., answered his final summons last
Friday, death occurring at his home on Mc Donald street, after an illness
of seven weeks with pleurisy. Deceased
was born in Canada, May 31, 1840 and had been a resident of this
city for the past 51 years. He leaves to mourn his death his wife, four
sons, Edward of Kaukuna, Edward of Oconto,
George of Green Bay, and William of Gladstone, Mich., and two daughters,
Mrs. Emma La Mountain and Mrs. Gust Le Comte of Oconto. He is also survived
by eight brothers, George,
Peter, Louis and Dolphus of Oconto, Frank of Menominee, Mich., Oliver
of St. Croix Falls, Xavier of Iron River, Wis., and Silas of Ontonagon
and one sister Mrs. Peter Gilbert of Auburn,
N.Y. The funeral was held Monday morning at none o'cloce from St.
Peter's church, with Rev. Fr. Looze as celebrant of the requiem, interment
being in Catholic cemetery. Mr. Mineau was
a member of the C. K. of W. the members of which acted as pallbearers.

MOTHER IS BURIED IN OCONTO TODAY - Oconto, Nov. 25 - Mrs. Edward Mineau
Sr., 85, passed away
Tuesday evening, November 22 at 8 o'clock at Peshtigo, ailments
incident to old age causing her death. She had been quite feeble for several
years. She is survived by three sons, George
Mineau, Marinette; Edward Mineau Jr., Oconto; William Mineau, Gladstone,
Mich., and two daughters, Mrs. Emma La Mountain and Mrs. Gustave LeComte
Sr., of Oconto, also by a
number of grandchildren. N.J. Gagnon, mortician, went to Peshtigo
Tuesday evening and brot the body to Oconto, where it was prepared for
burial and is at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Gustave Le Comte. Funeral services were held this morning at
9 o'clock from St. Peter's Catholic church. The Rev. J. J. Looze officiated,
and interment was made in the Catholic
cemetery.

Death Notice in Marinette Eagle Star of 08 February 1924 - DROPS DEAD -
Edward Mineau Dropped Dead In Big Suamico This Moring, According to Message.
Mrs. George Mineau received a long distance message this morning that Edward
Mineau dropped dead this morning in Big
Suamico. Mr. and Mrs. George Mineau will to to Suamico this evening to
attend the funeral. Details of the sudden death were not given in the message.
Oconto County Reporter, Thursday, 14 February 1924 - FORMER RESIDENT DIES
SUDDENLY AT SUAMICO THURSDAY - Edward Mineau Jr., a former resident of
Oconto died suddenly at his home two
miles from Big Suamico Thursday night from heart trouble. Mr. Mineau had
been in good health and had walked to Big Suamico and back just a few hours
before his death. After supper Thursday he went out into
the kitchen to strain the milk. At about eleven o'clock his son, who had
spent the evening at a neighbor's home, found him dead in the kitchen.
He was sixty-three years old at the time of his death. Deceased was born
in Canada March 25, 1862, but since he was seven years old has spent his
entire life in Oconto county. He has lived in Oconto, Coleman, and three
years age moved to Big Suamico. He is survived by his mother,
Mrs. Edward Mineau Sr. of Oconto; his wife; three sons, Xavier of Green
Bay; Henry of Laona, and Thomas at home; and four daughters Mrs. Chas.
Couvillion and Mrs. Victor Duquaine of Niagara, Mich., Mrs D.
Venturis, Beloit; and Mat Ricksgers of Muskegon, Mich., three brothers,
Alphonse of Oconto; William of Escanaba, Mich, and George of Marinette;
and two sisters, Mrs. Louis La Mountain Sr., and Mrs. Gust Le
Comte, both of this city. The funeral was held Monday morning at eleven
o'clock from St. Peter's church in this city, Rev. Father Loose officiating.
Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery. The pallbearers were:
Walter Peterson, Clarence Kinziger, James O'Neil, Freeman Le Comte, Ernest
Bourassa and George Delorem.

Obituary in Marinette Eagle Star of 29 January 1948 - DEATH CLAIMS OLD
RESIDENT - Mrs. Emma La Mountain, 85, one of Ocont's oldest residents who
came here when she was four years old, died at 8:15
p.m. Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Thode, 442 Baldwin
street. Mrs La Mountain was enjoying fairly good health when she was stricken
wtih her final illness two weeks ago. Born in Canada
September 23, 1862, she came to Oconto 81 years ago and had resided here
since. Besides Mrs. Rhodes she is survived by four other children. They
are Mrs. Elizabeth Lenneau, and Mrs. John Dreshek of Oconto,
Mrs. John Noel of Iron Mountain and son Louis La Mountain of Ontonagon.
Also surviving are two brothers George Mineau of Marinette and William
Mineau of Gladstone, a sister, Mrs. Rose Le Comte of Oconto,
three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. At 9 a.m. Saturday teh
Rev. B.B. Belanger will say a requiem funeral mass in St. Peter's church
where Mrs. La Mountain was a member of St. Ann's society. The
remains may be viewed at the Sheffield funeral home from tonight until
time for the final rites. Father Belanger will lead the rosary at 7 p.m.
Friday at the mortuary and a half hour later members of St. Ann's society
will assemble to recite the rosary.

Louis La Mountain to be buried Wednesday. Oconto, Wisconsin-Louis La Mountain,
84, for 58 years a resident of Oconto, died at 6 o'clock Sunday morning
at a Wausau hospital of a heart ailment. he body was
brought to Oconto last evening and taken to the Gagnon funeral home and
was later removed to the La Mountain residence. Funeral services will be
held Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock, with sevices at St. Peter's
Catholic church, the Rev. J.J. Lozze officiating. Interment will be in
the Oconto Catholic cemetery. Mr. La Mountain was born in Louisville, provice
of Quebec, Canada, and came to Oconto at the age of 26, residing
here since. During his life he was employed by the Oconto company here.
He is survived by his widow; four daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Leneau, Mrs.

GREEN BAY - Mrs. LeComte Of Oconto Striken - Oconto - Mrs. Rose Le Comte,
85, lifetime Oconto resident, died Friday night at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. G. Suderberg, in Green Bay. She had been ill
for three weeks. The former Rose Mineau was born here June 21, 1870. She
married Gustave Le Comte 67 years ago in St. Peter's church. He
died in 1928. She is survived by seven daughters and two sons. They are
Mrs. Edward Loose of Milwaukee, Mrs. G.F. Suderberg, Mrs. Walter Whitaker
and Mrs. Francis Vanderfin of Green Bay, Mrs. William Van
Gaal, Mrs. Walter Petersen, Mrs Clarence Kinsiger, Charles and Gustave
Lecomte of Oconto. Also surviving are a brother George of Marinette, 10
Grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The body is at Sheffield
funeral home where friends may call from 7 tonight until final rites at
9 a.m. Monday in St. Peter's church. The Rev. Abner Laque will officiate
and burial will be in Catholic cemetery. Rosary services will be held at
3 p.m. Sunday by Catholic Foresters and by 9 p.m. the parish.
Marinette Eagle Star, Monday, 16 April 1956, Oconto Funeral - Le Comte
- The Rev. Abner LaQue officiated at final rites today for Mrs. Rose Le
Comte, Oconto resident who died Friday. The rites were held in St.
Peter's church and burial was in Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were six
grandsons, Leon VanGaal, Robert Loose, Robert and William Peterson, Richard
and Thomas Le Comte.

AT OCONTO - Brother of George Mineau of Marinette - Oconto-Edward Mineau,
69, lifetime resident here, died yesterday
afternoon at his home following a stroke. He was born March, 1874, in Oconto
and worked for the Oconto Company lumber firm until 15 years ago when he
retired. The body will lie in stateat the Gagnon-Sheffield
funeral home until Saturday morning a 9 o'clock when last rites will be
held at St. Peter's Catholic church, the Rev. Byron B. Belongia officiating.
Burial will be in the Oconto Catholic cemetery. He is survived by
two brothers George of Marinette and William of Gladstone; and two sisters,
Mrs. Emma La Mountain and Mrs. Rose La Comte, both of Oconto.

Marinette Eagle Star, Thursday, 13 February 1958, - George Mineau 81, Dies
Today - Paper Employe And Landscaper - George P. Mineau, 81, who retsided
at 1833 Wisconsin St., died at 7:35 a.m. today at
Marinette General hospital where he had been a patient since Saturday.
Mr. Mineau who was born September 25, 1876 at Oconto, spent his early life
there where he worked for the lumber industry. He was sexton of
Woodlawn cemetery at Green Bay fefore coming to this city. Mr. Mineau was
an employee of Marinette and Menominee Paper Co., and also did landscaping
and gardening around the twin cities before his retirement
20 years ago. His only survivor is a son, Clifford Mineau of Marinette.
His wife, the former Victoria Premo, died July 9, 1934. Services will be
conducted Saturday morning at St. Josephs' church of which he was a
member. The Rev. Omer Champagne will officiate and burial will be in Forest
Home cemetery. Mc Lain-Thielen-Langer funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

- Long-time Resident Succumbs to Long Illness Monday Night - Mrs. George
P. Mineau 57, 1521 Sherman street, this city, died
in her home, about 8:45 O'clock last evening, following an illness of eight
months' duration with stomach trouble. The deceased had also been afflicted
with gradual blindness for a number of years and had been
totally blind for some time. The deceased was born in Menominee April 5,
1877, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Primo. She is survived by her husband
and one son, Clifford, also one brother, George Premo of
Pentoga, Mich., and five sisters, Mrs. Alex Demarah, Mrs. Alex Savard and
Mrs. Joseph Smith, this city; Mrs. Joseph Taylor, Detroit, Michigan; Mrs.
Albert Last, Tacoma, Washington. Remains were removed to
the Mc Lain funeral home and this afternoon were taken back to the home
of the deceased in Sherman street. funeral services will be held Thursday
morning at 10:30 o'clock from the home. Interment will be in Forest
Home cemetery.

Oliver Mineau passed away at the home of his son, Wirr, last Sunday
morning after a brief illness. Funeral services were held from the Eureka
M.E. Church on Tuesday afternoon
conducte by Rev. C.U. Hughes. Mr. Mineau was an early resident of
this community, having come here more than forty years ago. We will give
an obituary next week.
Obituary - Standard Press - Thursday 4/23/1919 - Louis Oliver Mineau
- Louis Oliver Mineau was born in 1843 on the shores of Lake St. Peter,
where Louiseville is located. He was the
forth child of Peter and Lucia Mineau. At the age of four he moved
with his parents to Keeseville, N.Y. where the father was employed. Here
they resided about four years before
returning to River de Luc, where his parents lived on the farm of
his grandfather. A short time later the family returned to the town of
his birth, where he was educated in the village
school. When about fifteen years he went to work in the store owned
by one of the school directors and there he learned to speak English while
assisting in the store and later teaching in
the school. When about eighteen years he spent two seasons in the
logging districts along the Gatineau River. He enjoyed the tales told by
Ralph Conner in his books of this country, as
many scenes were familiar to him. After leaving the River work in
Canada, he with his father and one brother came to Wisconsin on their way
to St. Louis, where his oldest brother
resided. He was employed in St. Louis on a dray line but returned
to Canada late in 1864 when the North was conducting a big drive for recruits.
New York was striving hard to fill her
quota when he in company with several others from Canada enlisted
at Watertown, N.Y. They were transferred to Boston for training, later
serving as guard in Richmond, Va. after the
city was fired. Here his health failed and he was sent home on sick
leave. Before he had regained his health sufficient to return to his company
the war ended and the army disbanded.
While yet a sick man the family moved to Oconto, Wis., where they
resided for many years. They arrived in Oconto late in 1866 and as soon
as he was able to work he, with a companion,
started for Chippewa Falls. Disappointed with prospects there they
came to Stillwater, Minn., where they had learned work was plentiful. Here
he met Mr. Godfrey, Sr., of Osceola, and
hired out to work on Bean Brook in 1868. For the next two years
he was employed in Polk county, much of the time around Osceola. Here he
met Sarah Redmond and wed her July 30,
1870. With his bride he moved to his homestead in Eureka where they
lived the remainder of their lives. He took a keen interest in local affairs
and served as member of the county board
several times, working always for his home town interests. He had
been a sufferer from heart trouble for many years but the past year he
had expressed a wish that he might live to see the
Allies victorious. After this he was ready but accepted the will
of his Master and bided his time, only wishing that he might join his loved
ones on the birthday of his first child and only
daughter, who had passed away twenty years ago. This wish was also
granted and he passed happily to his rest April 13, 1919, at the home of
Wirt Mineau on the old homestead. The
last services were conducted by Rev. C.U.Hughes and burial was in
Pleasant Hill cemetery. He is survived by one sister and eight brothers,
besides his two sons, Wirt and Charles and

DIES SUNDAY - Aged Resident Had Reached Ninety-four Years on June 18th
- George Mineau 94, died yesterday in
the home of his daughter, Mrs. D. La Londe, with whom he had made
his home for a number of years. Mr. Mineau celebrated his 94th birthday
on June 18. Mr. Mineau was born in
Canada and came to the U.S. about 50 years ago. He lived in Oconto
fro a short time but then moved to Marinette where he made his home on
Garfield avenue for a number of years. Mrs
Mineau preceded him in death 35 years ago. He was a carpenter by
trade. Surviving Mr. Mineau are three children, Mrs. D. La Londe,
who is a member of the staff of the Peshtigo asylum, two sons, Eugene
Mineau, Two Rivers,and Alfred Mineau, Minneapolis; also a brother Louis
of Oconto; a half brother Fred of
Tomahawk, and a half sister Minnie Matiever of Escanaba, Mich. Remains
were taken to the Mc Lain Funeral Home. The funeral will be held from there
Tuesday morning a 9 o'clock in St.
Joseph's church. The Rev. Omer Champagne will read the funeral mass.
Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery.

Mrs. Ella Mineau Passes Away After Ten Years of Suffering - Mrs. Ella Mineau,
wife of George Mineau, died
Thursday. The cause of death was paralysis. She was stricken ten
years ago and had been an invalid ever since. Friday she suffered another
stroke of paralysis, which proved fatal. She
was an old resident of Marinette and is survived by her husband,
three sons and two daughters, all adults. The funeral will occur Saturday
morning at 8:30 from St. Joseph's Catholic
churc.

Marinette Eagle Star, Friday, 1 February 1952 - Local Resident Dies Last
Night - Mrs. Delia La Londe Funeral Saturday - Mrs. Delia La Londe, 76
of 800 Carney Boulevard, died Thursday night at Marinette
General Hospital after an illness of nine months. For 21 years, Mrs. La
Londe was employed as an attendant at Marinette County Hospital. She retired
six months ago. Her residence here dated from her childhood
when she came to Marinette from Canada. Mrs. La Londe was born in Canada
November 10, 1875. The body is at the McLain- Thielen-Langer funeral home
where it may be viewed until final rites are held Saturday
morning. At 10:30 a.m. Saturday the Rev. Omer Champagne will say a requiem
mass in St. Joseph's church and burial will be in Forest Home cemetery.
Father Champagne will lead a rosary at the mortuary at 8
o'clock tonight. Surviving are four sons, Arnold and Stephen La Londe of
Marinette, Lawrence La Londe of Amasa, Mich., and Lewis La Londe, who resides
in Ohio; a daughter Mrs. Joseph Le Claire of Milwaukee;
a brother Al Mineau of Mineapolis; 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A son, Wilfred died in 1937.

TUESDAY OF MENOMINEE MAN -Frank Mineau, 78 years old, 1300 Ogden avenue,
Menominee, died Tuesday
following a stroke of paralysis suffered last Friday. The deceased
had been a resident of Menominee for the last forty years. The survivors
are the widow, four sons, Joseph-Idaho;
Cyril-Greenville, Mich; Ernest-Port James, N.Y. and Arthur-Menominee.

Allard, O. Lacoursiere, C. Bellmore and Mr. Beauclair. Interment

Mineau, wife of Arthur Mineau,
died suddenly this morning a 12:30 in her home at 1506 Spies avenue, Menominee.
She had been ill only a few hours and her death resulted from heart trouble.
Mrs. Mineau was born fifty-one years ago last
December 1 in Germany and had been a resident of Menominee for twenty years.
She is survived by her husband, the following step-children: Mrs. Elmer
Chaltry, Willard, Claire, Yvonne, Lillian and Marie,
Menomine, and Lawrence, Minneapolis, Minn.; her father and step-mother,
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Strickert, Little Sturgeon, Wis; two brothers, William
and Emil Strickert, Manitowoc, Wis; two sisters, Mrs. Matt
Glesner, Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and Mrs. F.C. Meyers, Menominee; two step-sisters
Mrs. Charles Antholdt, Coleman, Wis.; and Mrs. Morn, Chicago; a step-brother,
Emil Strickert, residing in Minnesota and a
half-brother Henry Strickert, Manitowoc, Wis. The body was taken to the
Lemieux Funeral Home and on Friday afternoon at 1:30 will be removed to
the family home. The funeral will be held Saturday morning at
8:30 from the home and at 9 o'clock from St. Ann's church. The Rev. Father
Francis Geynet will offer the requiem high mass and interment will be at
Riverside.

PIONEER - Peter Mineau Resided Here for Past Sixty Years - Thirteen Children
Survive Besides a Wife - Had Been
Ill On Year - Funeral Will Be Held Friday Morning - Peter Mineau,
for the past sixty years a resident of Oconto was called to his final rest
Tuesday, death occurring at his home at 821 Mc
Donald Street at 2:20 o'clock in the afternoon, after an illness
of one year. Mr. Mineau was born in Canada December 8, 1845, and came here
sixty years ago. Forty years ago last April he
was married to Emma Pocan who survives him together with thirteen
children, seven daughters, Mrs. Fred Rosera of Lena, Mrs. John Vander Heyden
of Milwaukee, Mrs. Paul Smith and
Mrs. J.H. Sullivan of Combined Locks, Mrs. Chester Allie of Wabeno
and Lauretta and Agnes Mineau at home, and six sons, Joseph of Rhinelander,
Albert of Milwaukee, Frank and
Charles of Green Bay and Leo and Peter at home. Deceased had been
an employee of the Holt Lumber Company for thirty five years. The funeral
will be held Friday morning at nine
o'clock from St. Peter's church, Rev. Fr. Looze officiating and
his remains will be laid at rest in a vault in Catholic cemetery.

Madison hospital following a major operation. She was born in Oconto and
came to Kaukauna seven years ago. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic
church. Survivors are the widower; five sons, Merlin,
Robert, Kenneth, James and John; one daughter, Dolores; her mother, Mrs.
Fred Lebrun of Oconto; three sisters, Mrs Clarence Bartholdt of Green Bay,
Mrs. Merrill Van Lee of Oconto, Mrs. Catherine Derricks of

services will be held at 9 o'clock Thursday morning at Holy Cross Catholic

HELD HERE MONDAY FOR LOUIS MINEAU - Louis Mineau passed away at 2:15 last
Thursday afternoon, May
27, at his homen 815 Mc Donald street at the advanced age of 88
years. A heart ailment from which he had suffered since last April, was
stated as the cause of his death. Rev. Fr. J.J.
Loose conducted the funeral services at 9 o'clock Monday morning
at St. Peter's Catholic church. Interment was in the Oconto Catholic cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ralph Flanders, Louis
Cota, Elmer Trudeau, Milton Cain, Jerome Parisey and Chester Noonan.
Louis Mineau was born January 15, 1849 in Keeseville, N.Y., coming to Oconto
at the age of 16. On Sept. 12, 1871
he married Mary LaFaire at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Oconto.
For 54 1/2 years Mrf. Mineau had been engaged as filer, foreman and later
millwright for the Oconto Company.
Surviving are three sons, F.X. Mineau of Escanaba, Mich., F.S. Mineau
of Waupaca and William of Oconto; two daughters, Miss Georgiana Mineau
of Cleveland, O., and Mrs. T.E. Carlin
at home; a half-brother Fred Mineau of Tomahawk; a half sister,
Mrs. Minnie Metiever of Escanaba, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and sevengreat
grandchildren. People from out-of-town
attending the services were; Mr. and Mrs. F.S. Mineau, Mr. and Mrs.
Darwin Luscher and son, Tommy, of Waupaca; Mr. and Mrs. F.X. Mineau, Mrs.

Oconto County Reporter, Thursday, 18 November 1915- Death Occurred at St.
Vincent's Hospital Monday - Funeral was Held This Morning at Nine O'clock
- Miss Elizabeth Mineau, a highly esteemed young lady
of this city passed away at St. Vincent's hospital, Green Bay, Monday evening
about midnight. Miss Mineau had been ailing for a number of years. A few
months ago she went to Ontonagon to visit her brother and
last Friday morning she was taken to Green Bay from Ontonagon where an
operation would have been performed but on account of her condition it
was deemed advisable not to operate. Kidney trouble caused her
death. The Mineau family were with her when the end came very peacefully.
Her remains arrived here Tuesday afternoon on the 4:11 train. Deceased
was born in Oconto August 20, 1877, and lived here all of her life.
She leaves to morn her loss her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Mineau, three
sisters, Mrs. Frank Schneider and the Misses Clara and Georgiana Mineau
and three brothers, F.X. of Ontonagon and Frank and W.L. of
Oconto, who have the sympathy of their many friends in their hour of sorrow.
The funeral was held this morning at nine o'clock from St. Peter's chruch,
Rev. Fr. Caron officiating and her remains were laid at rest in
Catholic Cemetery. The room in which the body lay was banked with flowers
which showed the high esteem in which deceased was held by her large circle
of friends. The Misses Marie Fabry, Leona Brazeau, Libby
Bergeron and Agnes Ouelette, attired in white, had charge of the flowers.
Pallbearers were Arthur Fabry, George and Ted Hazen, Louis Brazeau, Charles
Trudeau and Romeo Pecor. Those who attended the funeral
from out of town were Frank Mineau of Menominee, Mich., Mrs. H. E. Gudden
of Green Bay, Mr. and Mrs. F.X. Mineau and daughter Frances of Ontonagon,
Mich., and Miss Georgiana Mineau of Cleveland, Ohio.

- Oconto - A lifetime resident of the City of Oconto, Mrs. Rose M. Mineau,
81, of 227 Pecor St., died today at Oconto Memorial Hospital.
Death followed a long illness. The former Rose Le Comte was born February
9, 1894. She was married to William L. Mineau on Oct. 1, 1913, at St. Peter's
Catholic CHurch. He died July 10, 1946. Surviving are
two daughters Mrs. Arthur Gering and mrs. Paul Le Breck of Oconto five
sons, Robert and Wilfred of Green Bay, the Rev. David, John and Clifford
of Oconto; 36 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Friends
may call at the Gallagher-Pinkart funeral home on Monday after 2 p.m. There
will be a prayer service there at 8 p.m. Monday and the Knights of Columbus
will recite the rosary at 9 p.m. A concelebrated mass will
be officiated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Churchwith her son, Rev.
David, the Rev. Abner Laque and the Rev. Philip Hoffmann officiating. Burial
will be in Catholic Cemetery.

Home was in charge of arrangements. Miss Mineau was born
here April 23, 1891. She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin

SUDDEN DEATH IN MINEAU FAMILY TODAY - Mr. and Mrs. George Mineau returned
last evening from Oconto
where they had been to atten the funeral of Edward Mineau, brother
of George Mineau, who dropped dead in Suamico a few days ago. The funeral
was held in Oconto on Monday
morning from St. Joseph's church. This forenoon the Mineaus received
a long distance telephone message from Iron River, Wisconsin stating that
Xavier Mineau, uncle of George
Mineau dropped dead there this morning.

DIES AT IRON RIVER MONDAY, Xavier Mineau, formerly a resident of this city,
died at his home in Iron River,
Wis. Monday morning. Mr. Mineau has been ailing for some time with
rheumatism. He is survived by his wife and eight children. The funeral
was held Thursday morning at Iron River.
Mr. Mineau's brother, Louis Mineau of this city, attended the funeral
and also his niece Mrs. T.E. Carlin.

XAVIER MINAU - On Tuesday morning, at 1:25 o'clock, Francis Xavier Mineau,
for many years a prominent resident
of Iron River, passed from this life aged 71 years and 3 months.
He had been ill with inflamatory rheumatism for five weeks, and his ailment
was made all the more dangerous because of
heart trouble. The deceased was one of a large family born and reared
in Keeseville, a town in northern New York, near Lake Champlain. The family
migrated to Wisconsin many years
age, and Francis was attracted to the lumber industry and learned
the filing trade, which he followed for several years at Marinette and
Oconto. He came here with his family nearly 30
years ago and was foreman of the Lea-Ingram Lumber Company's saw
mill for several years. While thus employed met with an accident that was
considerable of a handicap to him ever
after. His right arm was so severely crushed in the machinery that
it was necessary to amputate it above the elbow. After quitting the lumber
business he conducted a dry goods store for
several years and later served the town as supervisor and policeman-holding
the latter position up to the time he was taken sick the first of this
year. Besides a widow, the deceased is
survived by five sons and five daughters - William, of Marshfield,
Ore.; Mrs. Elsie Mc Dermott of Winnipeg, Man; Mrs. Elizabeth Murray, of
Akeley, Minn; Mrs. Myrtle Schwarz of
Pendleton, Ore.; Arthur, of Miles City, Mont.; Mrs. Vernie Overby,
of Fossil, Ore.; Norbert, of Park Falls, Wis.; Lawrence, of this city;
Raymone, of Great Falls, Mont.; and Miss
Bernadette at present a patient at Pureair Sanatorium; also three
brothers, Louis and George of Oconto, Wis., and Silas of Flint, Mich. The
funeral will be held from St. Michael's Catholic
Church tomorrow (Friday) morning at 9 o'clock, and interment will
be made in the local Catholic cemetery. Mr. Mineau was a man who will be
greatly missed, not alone by his large and
devoted family, but by the entire community, for he was a man who
commanded the respect of all who knew him. The sincere sympathy of all
goes out to the afflicted. Relatives who are
here from out of town to attend the funeral are; Mrs. Elsie Mc Dermott,
Mr. and Mrs. William Murray, Norbert, Raymond and Arthur Mineau, whose
addresses are heretofore given;
David Legault and Ben J. Lagoe, borther-in-law and nephew respectively
of the deceased, of Rhinelander, Wis., and deceased's brother, Louis Mineau
and Daughter Mrs. Carland of

Mrs. Lavina Mineau Called
Stricken while attending mass at St. Michael's Church on Christmas
morning [Dec. 25, 1939], aged 79 years and eighteen days, passed away fifteen
minutes after being transferred to the
home of her son, Lawrence A. Mineau, with whom she was residing.
Mrs. Mineau had suffered some heart attacks recently and it was realized
by the family that her condition was such that death may visit her at any
time, yet her death was nevertheless a
shock, as it always is to loved ones when one who is near and dear
is suddenly called from this earth.
Mrs. Mineau was born in Canada, and came to the United States when
a child but nine years of age. She lived at Marinette, Wis., and later
at Oconto, before coming to Iron River to
reside about forty years ago. Her husband, Francis X. Mineau, preceded
her in death several years ago.
The deceased is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Schwarz,
of Marshfield, Oregon; Mrs. Clude Overby, of Fossil, Oregon; Mrs. Elsie
McDermott, of Winnipeg, Man., and Mrs.
Elizabeth Murray, of Brainard, Minn.; four sons, Lawrence A., of
this city; Norbert, of Madison; Raymond A, Mineau, of Oakland, California,
and William J., of Marshfield, Oregon.
The funeral was held this morning, with services at St. Michael's
Catholic Church, and interment was in the family lot in the Catholic cemetery.
Mrs. Mineau was a woman who was held in the very highest esteem by
all who knew her, for she was a lovable, kindly person, genteel in manner--the
ideal type of mother and neighbor.
Among the relatives from out-of-town who attended the funeral were
the deceased's daughters, Mrs. Elsie McDermott, of Winnipeg, and Mrs. Elizabeth
Murray, of Brainard; her son,
Norbert, and wife, of Madison, and her only surviving brother, George
LeGault, of Marinette, Wis.

OBITUARY - BERNADETTE MINEAU
DEATH CLAIMS IRON RIVER GIRL
Miss Bernadette Mineau, Many Years an Invalid, Enters the Portals of the
Eternal Life.
Miss Bernadette Mineau, daughter of Mrs. F.X. Mineau, of this city, passed
away at her home her last Saturday evening, Jan. 3rd, shortly before the
midnight hour. For several days previous to her death it was
evident that the end was near, and Norbert, of Park Falls, Wis., and Raymond,
of Great Falls, Mont., brothers, and Mrs. William Murray, of Akeley, Minn.,
sister had come here and together with the mother and
Lawrence , a brother, were at the bedside of the patient when the end came.
Bernadette was born in Oconto, Wisconsisn, on January 29th, 1899, and came
here with her parents when but a small child. She grew up here, attended
the schools of this city, and graduated from the Columbia High
School in 1917. Though ruddy and the picture of health, she had not been
out of school much more than a year when her health became impaired, and
her ailment was diagnosed as tuberculosis. She was among the
first patients to enter Pureair Sanatorium, and she remained there until
about a month ago, when it was realized that her condition had become such
that nothing more could be done for her there which gave any hope
of a cure, and so she was brought to her home and there given all the attention
possible by a devoted mother and brother.
During all the years she was an invalid, and up to within a short time
before her death, she spoke cheerfully of the future evidently believing
tht her first duty was to comfort her mother.
The funeral was held on Tuesday morning from the Catholic Church, and the
remains were laid at rest in the Catholic cemetery, Rev. Father Rapala
officiating.
The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the grieved and afflicted.
Within the past eleven months the family has been called upon to bear the
loss of their number - first, the father, next Arthur, a stalwart
young man in the prime of life, and now Bernadette, a sweet and charming
girl.
Besides the members of the family mentioned, Mrs. McDermott, a sister,
from Winnipeg, Manitoba, arrived here Monday to attend the funeral.
The surviving members of the family are: the mother; William, of Marshfield,
Ore.; Mrs. Elsie McDermott, of Winnipeg, Man.; Mrs. Elizabeth Murray, of
Akeley, Minn.; Mrs. Myrtle Schwarz, of Pendleton,
Oregon; Mrs. Vernie Overby, of Fossil, Oregon; Norbert, of Park Falls,
Wis.; Lawrence, of this city, and Raymond of Great Falls, Mont.

- Funeral Wednesday - Adolph Mineau, a resident of the city for
fifty-two years, passed to the Great Beyond Sunday, death occurring at
his home at 1033 Mc Donald street. Mr. Mineau
had been ill for the past seven months with dropsy. Deceased was
born in Canada January 18, 1857, and came to Oconto fifty-two years ago.
On June 13, thirty-two years ago he was
united in marriage to Maggie Barribeau who survives him together
with one son, Reuben, and one daughter, Marie. He also leaves to mourn
his death seven brothers, Louis and Peter, of

Obituary in Marinette Eagle Star of 15 May 1926, Saturday: FORMER
RESIDENT DIES IN FLINT, MICH. - Silas Mineau of Flint, Mich. formerly of
this city, died at his home on Friday.
The body will be shipped from Flint, Mich., Sunday morning and is
expected to arrive in this city Monday morning. The body will be brought
to the Mc Lain chapel. Mr Mineau was born
in Canada. He came to Marinette 62 years ago where he resided for
52 years, then moving to Oconto, where he lived for 10 years and later
moving to Flint, where he resided since. The
survivors are seven children two brothers, George Mineau, Hattie
Street, this city, and Louis Mineau of Oconto. Mr. Mineau will be remembered
by the old settlers, as he was coachman
on the Carney estate for many years.
The funeral will be held Tuesday morning from the St. Joseph's church
at 9 o'clock. Rev. Fr. E.H. Vaissiere will officiate. Burial will be made
in Forest Home cemetery beside his wife, who
preceded him in death several years ago.

Page 6. Obituary - Mrs. Peter Gilbert. Mrs. Peter Gilbert died suddenly
at the family home 41 Swift Street at 3 o'clock
yesterday afternoon. She had been complaining a little for some
time but her condition did not appear to be serious. Shortly after 1 o'clock
yesterday afternoon Mrs. Gilbert laid down and
soon thereafter suffered a sinking spell and died before any of
the members of the family could be summoned. Mrs. Gilbert had been a resident
of this city a number of years and was
highly respected. She is survived by her husband, three daughters,
Mrs. Gordon of Cincinnati, Emily Barton of Rochester and Irene Vosburg
of this city, and by four sons. Henry of this
city. Edward of Nevada. Silas of Geneva and Albert of Boston and
four brothers and one sister in Michigan.

- Peter J. Gilbert - Peter J. Gilbert died at his home 41 Swift Street
at 1:15 this morning, after an illness of nearly
three years. He had been confined to his bed only a few weeks. Mr.
Gilbert has been a resident of this city nearly 50 years. He was a carpenter
by trade and during the latter part of his life
took contracts for such work. He was widely known. He is survived
by three daughters Mrs. Harry Gorder of Cincinnati, O., Mrs. Leon Burtin
of Rochester and Mrs. E. P. Vosburg of
Auburn; four sons Henry and Albert of this city, Silas of Geneva,
and Edward of Elko, Nev.; three sisters, Mrs. Adele Bannon and Mrs. Julia
Bunce of this city, Mrs. Laura Chetney of
Fulton; two brothers, Cleophas of Auburn and Albert of Providence,
R.I. The funeral will leave the family home Saturday morning at 8:15. Services
will take place at St. Alphonsus Church
at 9 O'clock. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Joseph's
Cemetery.

Death Claims Local Resident - Mrs. Marie Meteiver Juneau of 313 S.
9th St. died at Pinecrest Medical Card Facility at 6:35 last evening. She
had been in ill health for the last two years and
seriously ill for the last two weeks. She was born March 3, 1875
in Oconto, and has been a resident of Escanaba for the last 60 years. Mrs.
Juneau was a member of St. Anne's Church. She
is survived by her husband Emery, two sons, Clifford Meteiver of
Kenosha, and Ervin of Escanaba, Three daughters, Mrs. Larry (Volet) Govin,
Vancouver, Wash., Mrs. John (Fern)
Duncan, Escanaba, Mrs. Roy (Rona) Kaiser of Louiseville, Ky., three
step-daughters, Mrs. Dan Cayer, Trenary, Mrs. Stella Laundre and Mrs Henry
Laundre, both of Escanaba rte. 1, one
step-son, Fred Juneau of Little Lake, 29 grandchildren, and 33 great
grandchildren. Tentative funeral arrangements have been made. Friends may
call at the Alle Funer Home after 3 p.m.,
Thursday. The rosery will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday. The Requiem
Mass will be at St. Anne's Church at 9 Friday morning. Burial will be in
the Holl Cross Cemetery.
