McDowell Settlement information
I am doing genealogical research
for a graduate degree course at UW-Milwaukee and have discovered that my
Great Great Grandfather was Samuel McDowell, who was married to Viola Pierce.
He moved to the Little River Township in the 1860's from Shawsville, Quebec.
He brought his father Samuel and mother Mary Jane (Wilson)
McDowell and his 6 brothers and 3 sisters as well. Interestingly, the McDowell
settlement, as it was called, had its own school district. Samuel's wife,
Viola, was a schoolteacher who came to the McDowell settlement from Omro,
Wisconsin to teach. I am still working on getting the names of Samuel's
siblings. All of the above information I pulled from my grandmother's remembrance
book. Her maiden name was Marion Grady.
