My great-grandfather, Darius Martin, born May 12, 1872 in albert
Co., New Brunswick, Canada,
lived in Oconto, WI during the early 1860's. He returned to Deer Island,
NB, Canada in 1866 to marry Jessine (Jessie) Whalen. They then returned
to Oconto where 3 of his children were born. In about 1879 , he returned
to Deer Island where my Grandfather & his twin sister were born in
1880. While in Oconto area he learned many skills: carpentry, growing apples,
dairy farming & the undertaking business (embalming, etc.) As a note
of interest, my brother has a hand saw Darius purchased after the Peshtigo
Fire (1871).
