I. Phillip1 LINGLEBACH was born Burstandt by Worm, Germany 31 Dec. 1852. Phillip died 20 Oct. 1938 in Oconto, WL, at 85 years of age. Obit appeared in the Oct. 21, 1938 Oconto County Reporter, along with a photo.

    Phil Lingelbach, Resident of Oconto Since 1900, Passed Away on Thursday.

    Phil Lingelbach, 85, prominent resident of the city and former industrialist, died at his home at 619 Main st. Thursday morning shortly after nine o'clock following a lingering illness which had left him bedridden for the past few months. He was in a coma for three days preceding his death. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9:30 from the St. Joseph's Catholic church, Rev. L. C. Becker officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery.

    Mr. Lingelbach went into business in Oconto in 1900 when he, together with his partner, C. H. Roenits of Sheboygan, Wis., bought the Oconto Brewing Co. from Jacob Spies and built this business into a large and thriving enterprise which he personally conducted until national prohibition. He retired from active business in 1921.

    The deceased was born in Burstadt by Worm on the Rhein, Germany, Dec. 31, 1852. He migrated from Germany to this country in 1870, his first employment being with the Hagemeister Brewing Co. of Green Bay. After a short time he went with the Pabst Brewing Co. in Milwaukee and later to Ottawa, 111. He was with the Westside Brewing Co. in Chicago for a time, then from 1885 to 1900 served as superintendent and brewmaster of the K. Schreier Brewing Co., Sheboygan.

    Before coming to the United States, Mr. Lingelbach received his education in Germany and saw three years of service in the German army during the period of the Franco-Prussian war. After leaving the army, he learned the brewing art under skilled masters of the fatherland, and came to America thoroughly equipped to practice his profession.

    He was married in Ottawa, III in 1883 to Miss Minnie Meyer, who survives him. Other survivors are four sons; Charles J., Houghton, Mich; Sigmund J., Menominee, Mich; Frank J. and Hugo, both of Oconto; a brother, Heinrich Lingelbach, German; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

    He was a member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin and of the Germania Society.

    Pallbearers for services Monday will be four grandsons, George Lingelbach, Sigmund Lingelbach, Jr., Charles Lingelbach, Jr. and Frank J. Lingelbach, Jr.; a nephew Reinar Lingelbach of Muskegon, Mich., and a grandnephew, Phil Winkle, St. Paul, Minn.

    The body will be removed from the Gagnon ftmeral home to the residence this afternoon at 4:30.

    Phillip and his wife and all their children and their spouses, with the exception of Frank and his family are buried in lots 3 and 4 of Block 25. It appears from cemetery records that Phillip is buried partially in lot 3 and partially in Lot 4. Evidently he is buried in what normally would be consided the walkway between grave sites. Frank, his wife, sons Frank Jr. and Phillip; and daughter Betty are buried in Block 26 lot 5.
 
 

    He married Wilhelmina "Minnie" MEYER Ottawa, ILL., 1883. Wilhelmina was born 1865. Wilhelmina died 1 Apr. 1945 in Oconto, WL, at 79 years of age. Buried Evergreen Cemetery Oconto. Dates from gs.

        Phillip, with his family, came to Oconto in 1900 according to obits, after purchasing in 1899 the Jacob Spies Brewery which had originally been the (1878) Pahl Brewery, which was built by A. Links. The brewery was renamed the Oconto Brewery by 1871. The brewery operated until prohibition December 5, 1918 when it was shut down under the decree of the U. S. Food Administration that all beer making ceased. In March 1933, President Roosevelt repealed prohibition and Phillip's son Sig, then brewrnaster of Oconto Brewery started the machinery.   It sold it first beer on Friday Sept. 1, 1933 as noted in an article in the Oconto County Reporter,

                                Hugo Lingelbach, Dies Suddenly; Services Tuesday

                Hugo. W. Lingelbach, 73, retired Oconto business man and well known amateur
            magician, died unexpectedly in his sleep Saturday morning at his home, 613 Main St.

                Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Gallagher funeral home. The Rev.
            Newton  Roberts, pastor of First Presbyterian church officiating, Burial\ was in Evergreen
            Cemetery.

                The deceased was born Aug. 31,1889 in Sheboygan, one of four sons of the late Mr.
            and Mrs. Phil Lingelbach, and came to Oconto with his parents in 1900, when the family
            purchased the Jacob Spies brewery here. He was a graduate of Oconto high school, and
            attended the University of Wisconsin and Notre Dame University. He and his brothers
            assisted in operation of the brewery until prohibition, Hugo, serving as salesman in the
            Northern Wisconsin, Upper Michigan area. He served in the Army during World War I,
            and for 40 years operated an auto agency here, from 1916 until his retirement in 1957.

                He was married in 1945 to the former Eva Hidde Heller, who survives him.

                He was a member of the American Legion, a charter member of the Oconto Kiwanis
            club, and member of the Houdini club of amateur magicians. For years he took and active
            part in the staging of the old Oconto County Corn and Potato Show, successor to the
            county fair.

                Since retirement, he had taken up with renewed interest his lifetime hobby, in magic,
            and was frequently called upon to provide programs in sleight-of-hand for social functions
            in this area. His last appearance for such a program was before fellow members of the
            Kiwanis cub last Wednesday noon, when he presented his 'latest bag of tricks' he'd brought
            back with him from a recent world convention of magicians in Colon, Michigan.

                Another lifetime hobby of cooking led to his perfection after retirement, of a new type
            outdoor charcoal broiler, on which he obtained patents last year. At the time of his death
            he  was dealing with firms interested in putting the broiler in production.

                He had been under treatment for a heart ailment for several years, but his health condition
            had been generaly good, and he had been making preparations to do deer hunting this
            week end.

                Pallbearers at services Tuesday were Lester Campbeli, William Meyer, Donald Holt,
            Arthur Bond, Myron Elliott and James Plier. Vocal selections were sun by Mrs. Donald
            Charier. There were military rites at the grave. He married Eva HFDDE-HELLER 1945.

                Eva was born 29 Jan. 18%. Eva died Jan. 1987 in Oconto, WI., at 90 years of age.

    2. Charles J.2 LINGELBACH (SR.) (Phillip1 LINGLEBACH) was born 1884. Charles died 29 Jan. 1959 in Appleton, WI., at 74 years of age. Buried Evergreen Cemetery.

    He married Martha LINGLEBACH. Martha was born 20 Aug. 1887. Martha died 25 Dec. 1980 at 93 years of age. Buried in Lot 4, Block 25 with Charles Sr., Funeral home was Wickman of Appleton, WI. Dates from SS death records.

Sigmund Lingelbach Sr, 74, former Oconto Brewery official, died unexpectedly Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Luke hospital in Denver, Colo. Death was caused by a heart attack.

    Mr. Lingelbach was born in Sheboygan, Sept. 2, 1885, the son of the late Philip and Wilhelmina Lingelbach. The family moved to Oconto Feb. 12, 1900 shortly after purchasing the Oconto Brewery from Jake Spies. The attended Oconto Schools and the Spencerian Business college in Milwaukee. Later he attended the Wahl & Hennis Brewing institution in Chicago, and worked for his father in the brewery. He was brewmaster here for a number of years until selling the brewery to Kolocheski & Miller. He left Oconto in 1935 and was brewmaster at the Walters Brewery in Appleton. The M and M Brewery in Menominee, Mich., and Pensacota Brewing company of Pensacola, Fla.

    Ten years ago he moved to Denver, Colo., where he worked at the Government Reclamation Center until his death, he was a member of the Master Brewers association and the Marinette Elks lodge.

    The body was brought to the Gallagher funeral home, where Elks services were held Wednesday evening. Funeral services are being held this (Thursday) morning at 10 o'clock at the funeral home, with the Reverend Robert Klein officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery.

    Pallbearers are Loyal, Arnold and Orville Peterson, Joseph Housner, William Mehlberg and Alphonse Pierre.

    Survivors are his wife, the former Johanna Roenitz of Sheboygan; one daughter Mrs. J. J. (Rosalie) Marsch of Denver, one son, Sigmund Jr, of San Pedro, Sula, Honduras, in Central America; one brother, Hugo, of Oconto and four grandchildren. Buried in Evergreen Cemetery.

    He married Johanna ROENITZ. Johanna was born in Sheboygan, WL. Johanna died 1 Dec. 1982.

        Former Oconto Legislator Dies

        Frank J. Lingelbach was born in Sheboygan., July 7, 1888 and came to Oconto in February 1900. He held a position with the Internal Revenue Department for some years, and also was a former deputy sheriff and undersheriff of Oconto county. He was a member of the Elks, Knights of Columbus and Holy Name societies.
The body is at the Gallagher funeral home where the Elks will Conduct rites at 7 O'clock Monday night and the Rev. M. G. Alt will recite the rosary at 8 o'clock. Funeral rites will be held Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic church at an hour not yet decided.

        Survivors are Mr. Lingelbach's wife, Mildred; a daughter, Betty, at home; two son, George of Belleville, III., and Frank Jr., a technical sergeant in the army; three brothers Hugo of Oconto, Charles J. of Appleton, and Sigmund of Pensacola, Fla. There also are two grandsons.

        He married Mildred BEYER in Oconto, WL, June 12, 1912. Oconto County Reporter, June 13,1912.

        Tuesday evening at seven thirty in the presence of a large gathering of relatives and friends, Miss Mildred Beyer and Mr. Frank Lingelbach were joined in wedlock at St. Peters parsonage by the rector, Rev. C.
Vanier. The bride was attended by her cousin, Mrs. Walter Eckhardt of Green Bay, and the groom was attended by his brother, Mr. Hugo Lingelbach.

        Mildred was born in Oconto, WI. 1890. Mildred was the daughter of George BEYER and Fannie PAGE. Mildred died 15Aug. 1949 in Oconto, WI., at 59 years of age. Obit appeared in the Oconto County Reporter, 18 Aug. 1949.

        Mrs. Lingelbach, 59, Dies Here Monday

        Mrs. Frank J. Lingelbach, Sr, 59, the former Mildred Beyer, died suddenly at her home at 617 Main St. shortly after nine o'clock Monday morning following a heart attack. She had been suffering from arthritis for a number of years, and recently had been undergoing treatment for a heart condition. He death, however, came as a shock to her family and wide circle of friends.

        Funeral services were held at 8:30 this morning at the Gallagher funeral home and at nine o'clock at St. Joseph's Catholic church, the Reverend Jerome Watry officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery. Rosary services were held last evening by the Catholic Woman's club and Alter society, of which she was a member.

        The deceased was a lifelong resident of Oconto, daughter of county pioneers. Her mother, Mrs. George Beyer, one of the oldest residents of the community, survivors her. Other survivors are one daughter, Betty, at home; two sons, George of Belleville, 111., and Frank, Oconto and four grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death two years ago.
Pallbearers for funeral services were Joseph Housner, C. W. Carlson, Oconto Falls; Francis Doyle, Chris Hermsen, Carl Johnston and William Mehlberg. Mildred was the only child of George Beyer.

        On the 1920 census Frank Lingelbach, age 32 was living at 917 Park Avenue, with his wife parents. Mildred is age 30, they have 3 children, George age 5, Phiilip, age 3 yrs 6 mo. and Frank age 1 yr. and 10 mo. Frank Lingelback's occupation is insurance.

        Grandchildren's name from the will of Betty Lingleback, his daughter, where she lists the identity of her niece and nephews.

                Betty Lingelbach. 74, 2305 San Luis Place, Green Bay passed away July 27, 1994 at San Luis Manor,
            Green Bay. Betty was born March !0, 1920 at Oconto to the late Frank and Mildred (Beyer) Lingelbach.
            She worked at the Oconto County Reporter and the American Automobile Association in Green Bay for
            live in the Oconto Beyer Home (Museum).

                Betty is survived by two sisters-in-law, Anita Lingelbach, Idaho; Virginia Lingelbach, III.; special
            friends, Ellwin (Bud) and Millie Edwards, Green Bay; nieces, nephews and friends.

                She was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Frank and Phillip; an aunt, Fannie Wilcox and
            a special friend, Elaine Tonnen.

            Friends may call at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto from 1 to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral
            home. Funeral services at 4 p.m. Wednesday with the with the Rev. C. Terry LaCombe officiating. Burial
            at Evergreen Cemetery.

                A special thank you to San Luis Manor Nursing Home, especially all the wonderful nurses and friends
            on the second floor.

                She took care of her mother until she died in 1949. After her month's death her health was not the best,
            so she hired a traveling compaion, Beverly Laduron who was a registered nurse to travel with her during
            the summer. They became life long friends. Betty sold the Frank Lingleback home and moved to Green Bay
            in the early 1950's. She resided in the Green Bay area the rest of her life.

    10. George B.3 LINGLEBACH (Frank2 LINGELBACH, Phillip1 LINGLEBACH) was born in Oconto, WI. 3 June 1914. George died 8 Feb. 1992 Beilview, ILL., at 77 years of age. Dates from SS death index.

      He married Virginia (?) LINGLEBACH.
      George lived in Bellview, III. He was brewmaster for the brewery that made Carlin Black Label beer.

    George B. LINGLEBACH and Virginia (?) LINGLEBACH had the following children:

    11. Frank3 LINGELBACH (Frank2, Phillip1 LINGLEBACH) was born in Oconto, WI. 22 March 1918. Frank died 27 July 1973 in Dallas, Texas, at 55 years of age. Date from gs. Evergreen Cemetery and SS death index.

    He married Anita "Nita" (?)-LINGELBACH.
