FAMILIES and BIOGRAPHIES

.HOUGAARD.

Both Johnson and Hougaard families lived in Oconto County in the late 1800s early 1900s.   I believe they lived in Maple Valley and Surring areas.   Both were farmers.   Both participated in the building of a Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church (now Trinity Lutheran in Surring I believe).   Family lore has it that the first marriage at the church was on June 4, 1901 between Hemming Christian Richard Johnson and Inga Marie Hougaard (also known as Mary).

Hougaard Family:

Niels Hougaard and his wife Matilda Anna are buried in Oconto County (Maple Valley).   They were both born in 1846.  Niels died in 1920 and Matilda in 1901.   I know they had one daughter (Mary E or Inga Marie)  but I don’t know about any other children.

The Hougaard family still lives around Surring.   I have spoken with two of them and no one knows anything beyond  Neils and Matilda.

I am looking for tombstones, census information, any family information births, marriages, etc.   Where did they land when they came from Denmark?   Did they all come from Heligoland?   My grandfather was a son of Hemming.
