Ludwig Freitag, was born 15 August, 1864 in the province of Posen, East Prussia (now Poland). He died 8 February 1941, Gillett, Wi. His wife, Augusta Lenz, was born 12 February, 1874 in the province of  Posen, East Prussia, and died 10 August, 1948, in Milwaukee, Wi. The couple married 26 January 1891 in Lublin, Poland and came to America in 1899 or 1900 (conflicting dates). They settled in Oconto county between Gillett and Oconto Falls, Sandy Corners Road. They had 2 children that died and 6 survived to adulthood, but are all deceased. They were Adolph, Edward, Emil, Emma, Agnes and Hilda.

Grandfather died 13 days later.

 
Freitag's General Store 1946-1969
Here is a summer and winter photo of the store, probably early 50's top photo, lower photo is later.

They stand in front of the courthouse in Dubuque, Iowa.
They bought the grocery store on the corner of East Main and Richmond streets in 1946 and ran it until 1969. They raised their 5 children there and taught them the value of hard work and honesty.
