Naturalization papers are thought to have been for Peter's brother Jacob.  No record of this family is found in Brown Co.    A Jacob Fomjerrick was listed in the 1880 census in Dodge, Trempealeau County Wisconsin - age 58 from Prussia.  He was listed as widowed.  The age corresponds to that of Jacob's birth date.  This is believed to be Peter's brother.

Peter and Agnes Fonferek traveled to the US aboard a sailing vessel named the Neptune.   According to the maritime report in the New York Times on its arrival,  it traveled the northern passage of the Atlantic encountering fog and light winds.  The ship had 1 birth and 2 deaths during transit.    The passenger list said they left Bremen on 4 May with 4 children, Valentine, Lorens, Konstantia, and 11 month old Magdalena.  Konstantia died 7 days at sea.   No records have been found of  Magdalena.  In the 1900 Census for Brown Co, Town of DePere, WI, Agnes states that she had 12 children and only 4 were living (Valentine, Lorens, Theckla and Peter).

A family friend, John Castor lived near Peter.  His son Castor Castor, was living in Green Bay at the time of the 1870 census.  Castor was a merchant tailor.   Grand-son Castor "Casper" Fonferek was named for that friend's son.

Brown County Democrat; March 5, 1896.  Peter Fonkerk Obituary.  He " dropped dead from heart disease in a shed near the Catholic Church at Pine Grove Friday morning at 9 o'clock.  Devotions are held every Friday morning during Lent at the church, from which Mr Fonkerk's home is about 4 miles distant.  He arose this morning in his usual good health, hitched the team and with his wife started to attend services.  On arriving there he drove his horses int the shed and while tieing them dropped to the ground and expired instantly.  He was in conversation with two neighbors when the sudden summons came.  Deceased was born in Poland sixty-five years ago.  He came to this country with his family about twenty-five years ago and located on a farm in the town of DePere where he has ever since lived.  He was a well-known and popular citizen.  The funeral took place Monday."  He is buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery.

Valentine William Fonferek was born in Prussia/Poland and at the age of 8 left with his family and came to the US in 1870.  He was a farmer.  After he married he moved from Town of DePere in abt. 1900-1910 time frame to Town of Breed, Oconto Co.  The family farm is located at the corner of North Branch Road and Speeman Road.  During the winter months he worked in the lumber camps.  He helped build the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Suring.  My father Casper helped him as a child haul bricks with a team of horses.

He was naturalized on November 10, 1928 (Northern Illinois NaturalizationDistrict, Vol P, page 953)

He is buried in the St. Michaels Cemetary in the Town of How.

Peter never married.  He lived with friends Jonas Hamburg in Breed.  He was in the Army in WWI and drove a team of horses.  He served in France prior to the end of the war.  For a number of years he lived near Chute Pond in a small home.

On the church records it lists his parents as Valentine Faferek and Linae Schmidt.  Witnesses were Laurentia Faferek and Magdelena Schmidt.

Peter register for the draft in Oconto County on Sept 10, 1918.  He was number 248.

Baptised Adalbertus Faferek in April 1896.  The God parents were Joseph Nowak and Thekla Fonferek    George died of influenza in the swine flu epidemic of 1918.  This was the worst epidemic on record killing 500,000 people in the US.    He had a birth defect.  His left hand was crippled.  His index, middle, and ring fingers were nubs.  Therefore, he was unable to serve in WWI. He never married.  He is buried in the family plot at the Catholic Cemetary in the Town of How, Oconto County, WI.    He registered for the draft on June 6th, 1917 but was ineligible because he was determined to be crippled.

Bill and Hannah moved the Iron Mountain Michigan where he was employed by the Ford Motor Company.  In 1945 they moved to Shawano.  Bill and his wife operated numerous businesses throughout their lifetime including several taverns; one in Clintonville and another in Gillett.  Bill had diabetes which eventually affected his eyesight.  He always had a joke to tell.  He loved to fish.  They did not have any children.

Both Bill and Hannah are buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano, Shawano County, WI.

Frank and his wife lived on a farm near the Fonferek family farm.  As a young man he enlisted with his brothers and served in WWI.  They enrolled on 6 June 1918 in Milwaukee and served 4 years being Honorably discharged on Sept 30, 1921 at Great Lakes,IL.  He rose to the rank of Seaman 2nd class.  Service # 1535355.    He loved to fish and was either at Chute Pond or Andersen Lake.    He died in his favorite chair on the front lawn of the family home.    He was very close to his brother Casper.

Baptised Castorem Faferek on June 25 1903.  His god parents were Castor and Magdalena Castor.  He was named after his god parent.

Casper was raised on a farm with his brothers and sisters in Breed.  He was single until age 31 when he married his wife Dottie who lived with her parents done the road from the Fonferek farm.  He played firstbase on the Breed Baseball  Team.  As a young man he was also a lumberjack in Lakewood and Wabeno.  After they married, they were caretakers at the YMCA camp on Chute Pond.  He owned and operated a gas station/tavern in Breed.  Then, he moved to the Cheese factory owned by his father-in-law, Joseph Foral, across from the Breed Central elementary school.  They purchased properties and constructed numerous vacation homes.  He drove school bus for the Mountain and Suring Public Schools for 20 years before obtaining a job with Oconto County as a manager of the Chute Pond Park. Bothhe and his wife Dottie  operated the reservoir dam, managed the camp grounds and cabins, and also were responsible for park upkeep and maintenance.  They lived there from 1954 to 1966.

Cass was an avid sportsman.  He hunted deer, bear and moose.  He trapped mink, muskrat and beaver.  He hunted ducks, squirrel and pheasant.  He loved to fish.  He especially liked to fish for "muskie".  In the fall when most tourist activities closed for the winter season, the whole family would hunt or fish together.

Dottie was one of the first cooks at the YMCA Camp UNA-Li-YA on Chute Pond before they had electricity.  Her and her husband Casper managed the Oconto County park at Chute Pond from 1954 until 1966.  Dottie also worked at the Oconto Falls Hospital as a therapy technician.  After her retirement she was a 25-year volunteer at the Suring Woodlands Nursing Home.  Like her mother she was an avid Packer fan.

Bernie worked for Olson-CW Transport for 35 years.  He was also employed by the Green Bay Pakers for over 40 years.  He started selling programs when the Packers played at the old East High School Stadium.  At Lambeau Field he worked in the Press Box checking press passes.  When the game started he had a nice warm place to watch the game.  He always could get tickets for the rest of the family so they never considered getting season tickets.  Now they wish they had.  He would always invite them for atour of the Press Box and the kids got whatever goodies they had there. He was also inducted into the Green Bay Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1978.

Irene Petasek, 84, Green Bay, was greeted at the gates of eternal heaven by her husband on August 27, 2012. Born on December 1, 1927, in De Pere, she is the daughter of the late Peter and Florence (Vander Kelen) Fonferek. On June 21, 1952, she married David Petasek at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay, and he preceded her in death on August 21, 2012. Irene was a fantastic cook, enjoyed playing sheepshead and poker, and loved times spent embroidering. She was also an avid spectator of the Packers, wrestling, and racing, and enjoyed going out to eat and having a Tom Collins on a Saturday night. Irene will always be remembered for her strong faith, and as a loving and compassionate aunt to her many nieces and nephews.

Irene is survived by five siblings, Laverne (Bob) Kriescher, Crivitz, Delores Petasek, Bill (Laona) Fonferek, Marilyn (Tony) Olson, all of De Pere, and Jean (Glenn) Norman, Green Bay; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Elsie (Tony) Gierczak, Ethel Helgerson, Shirley Anderson, Alvin Petasek, Norbert (Clara) Petasek, Clarence Petasek, Frank Petasek, Jr., Carol Petasek, Faye Petasek, and Clarice Petasek; and many nieces and nephews.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 until his discharge in 1945. While in service he achieved the rank of Corporal serving in the Pacific Theater. Bob was employed his entire life in the sheet metal, roofing, heating and cooling business retiring from Van's Heating and Cooling in the late 1980's. He never really stopped working, he just directed his talents in different areas, doing odd jobs at the VFW Post and helping family and friends.
