First Generation

1. Thomas1 DELANO, son of Thomas DELANO and Lois (?) DELANO, was born in Litchfield, CT. 6/18/1760. Thomas died 4/16/1835 in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY, at 74 years of age.

He married Olive GRISWOLD in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY, 1/16/1783. Olive was born in Sharon,CT. 10/05/1761. Olive was the daughter of Azariah GRISWOLD and Olive BROWN. Olive died 11/09/1813 in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY, at 52 years of age.

The early direct line data has been verified with IGI records from the Mormon Church after receiving a copy of a document. The only information recorded in my data base was what connected to my research. This family may go back to Plymouth Colony.

Thomas DELANO and Olive GRISWOLD had the following children:

Henry DELANO and Lucy WILDER had the following child:

    5 i.   Henry3 DELANO was born in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY 1825. He married Sarah E. WESTCOTT in Fort Atkinson, WL, 5/24/1856. Sarah died 5/09/1920 in Oconto County, Wisconsin. Oconto VR, V 8 page 90.

3. Leonard2 DELANO (Thomas1) was born in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY 10/23/1792.

He married Mersylvia PIPER in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY.

William, their son idicates his father was born NJ and his mother N.H. on 1880 Oconto Co. census.

Leonard DELANO and Mersylvia PIPER had the following children:

 + 7   ii. Mortimer Churburg DELANO was born 25 June 1828.

4. Frederick2 DELANO (Thomas1) was born in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY 8/19/1803. Frederick died 10/08/1845 in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY, at 42 years of age.

He married Olive MELLEN in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY. Olive is the daughter of John MELLEN and Jane (?) MELLEN.

Frederick DELANO and Olive MELLEN had the following children:

 + 11  ii   Edgar Alonzo Delano was born, 8/21/1834.

He married Jeanette M. SUTTON in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY, 10/05/1850. Jeanette was born Pinckney Pickney Township, Jefferson County, NY 12 July 1832. Jeanette was the daughter of (?) SUTTON. Jeanette died 26 Nov. 1887 Oconto Co., Wl., at 55 years of age. Buried Brookside Cemetery.

Marcus and Jeanette are on 1850 census Watertown, Jefferson, Co. NY. with an unnamed male infant less then one month old-Marcus age 54, born NY, occupation farmer is shown on the 1880 U.S. census living in Pensaukee. His wife Jenette N. age 47 born NY. He is shown with 3 daughters Ida A. McNeil, age 26, born NY; Hattie N. McNeil, age 21 born WI. and Laurie T. McNeil age 20 born WT. Both Hattie and Laura's occupation listed as teaching school. :

Marcus Doty DELANO and Jeanette M. SUTTON had the following children:
    12 i.   Nettie M.4 DELANO. Buried Brookside cemetery died at 1 yr. 3 mo. Daughter of M.D. and Jeanette.
    13 ii.   Mark DELANO. Infant son of M.D. and J.M. Delano.

    15 iv.   Ida Estelle DELANO was born New York State 1854. Ida died 4 Mar. 1884 in Wisconsin, at 29 years of age. Buried Brookside in the Marcus Delano lot. She married Milton MCNEEL in Brookside, Wisconsin, 03/28/1880. Oconto County Reporter,   April 3, 1880

McNEEL - DeLANO - At the residence of the brides father, Brookside, on the 28th ult. by Rev. T. J. Macmurray, Mr. Milton McNeel to Miss Ida E. DeLano.
Oconto County Reporter, Apr. 3,1880. Brookside A select party of about forty, were convened on the evening of the 28th in the parlors of M. D. DeLano to witness the marriage of his eldest daughter, Miss Ida E. DeLano, to Mr. Milton McNeel of Kiibourne City. The marriage was performed by the Rev. T. J. Macmurray. H. R. Knapp seated as groomsman and Miss Hattie M. DeLano, sister of the bride,as bridesmaid The parlors were gayly festooned with evergreens, autumn leaves and flowers. The bride wore i heavy pale gray silk trimmed with garnet silk and fringe, with the usual complement of white lace, white kid gloves and slippers. The refreshments do not need any compliments, they were all that could be desired. The friends of the bride exhibited excellent taste in the selection of useful, substantial, presents. If the Editor can allow space, we will mention some of them. From the bridegroom, a gold neck chain. The father of the bride, a cow and colt. The mother, a set of scalloped nappies and cream jug. Mr. and Mrs. L. McNeel a fruit knife and nut pick, Frank McNeel, five dollars. Dr. and Mrs. B.C. Beebe, a set of silver knives. Mrs. Ackrill of Oconto, a butter knife. Mrs. and Mrs. R. B. Yeaton, a sugar shell. Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Lee, sugar shell and pickle fork.   The Mrs. F. L. and E. C. Whitney, L. C. DeLano, the Misses Jennie and Lizzie Lince and John H. Goddard, a silver castor. The Mrs. G. W. DeLano, Eliza DeLano, M. Sutton, each a quilt. Mertie Lince, a card case and cigar holder. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Bovee, a clock. Mr. Geo. W. DeLano, a first class sewing machine. Miss Laura M. DeLano, St. Peter, Minn, dessert spoon and pocket handkerchiefs. Fox and Crosby Leonard, St. Pauls napkin rings. Hattie M. DeLano a bolt of cotton cloth. Laura T. DeLano, a rocking chair. Mrs. Barbanfc, St. Paul a set of silver teaspoons, 3 table cloths, one dozen napkins, 10 towels and a counterpane. The newly married and truly happy pair took the south bound train for Kilbourne city. I understand Mr. McNeel has purchased a beautiful house in Oconto. May the good angels guide, guard and smooth their path through lifes uneven way.

    16 v.   Hattie Mae DELANO was born in Wisconsin 1859.
    17 vi. Laura Theordora DELANO was born in Oconto County, Wisconsin 25 Dec. 1859. She married George Washington VOLK in Brookside, Wisconsin, 8 July 1885. Oconto VR., Vol. 1 pg. 292, and Oconto County Reporter, July 18, 1885.

Married Volk-DeLano

 At the residence of the bride's father, July 8th, by the Rev. Couch, George W. Volk, of Oconto Falls, and Laura T. DeLano, of Brookside. George was born in Oconto County, Wisconsin 14 Apr. 1855. George was the son of Henry VOLK and (?) (?) VOLK.

7. Mortimer Churburg3 DELANO (Leonard2, Thomas1) was born State of New York 25 June 1828. Mortimer died 30 Apr. 1872 in Oconto County, Wisconsin, at 43 years of age. Buried Brookside cemetery, dates from gs. Died at the age of 64 years.

He married Sylvia BIRMINGHAM New York State. Sylvia was born Black River, New York 5 July 1827. Some researchers show her mother as Plommy Stone. Sylvia was the daughter of Richard BIRMINGHAM and Plome "Bessie" STONE.

Sylvia died 3 Nov. 1884 in Oconto County, Wisconsin, at 57 years of age. Buried Brookside cemetery. Dates from gs.

On the 1860 cencus, Town of Pensaukee, Pensaukee post office Sylvia is listed as age 33, carrying on farm. Living with her are Eveline M., age 9; Lenoard C. age age 6; George A, age 5 and William Walter, age 3.                            .

Brookside

Mrs. M. C. DeLano has purchased 120 acres of land. This I believe makes her the owner of 6 forties. They do not allow her to vote but I never knew her to be deprived of the privilege of paying taxes.

Sylvia shows as a widow age 45, born N.Y., on the 1880 U.S. census; with the following children living with her, George A age 25, Carrie M. age 19, both born Wisconsin, along with farm labor Conrad Leahr.

Mortimer is listed as a resident property owner in Township 27, Section 27 next to Charles Windross in the Oconto County Assessment Rolls of 1852. It indicates he owns 111 acres of land.

In 1859 moved on homestead which later was William Falque (Falk) farm (1877). Located west of Brookside, south side of road.

Mortimer Churburg DELANO and Sylvia BIRMINGHAM had the following children:
    18 i.   Leonard C.4 DELANO was born in Oak Orchard, Wisconsin 1853. He married Rosalie RICE in Brookside, Wisconsin, Dec. 1875. Oconto County Reportr, Dec. 4, 1875 .

Leonard is on the 1880 U.S. census, age 26, born WI.; wife Rosalia A. age 30, born NY, and Eva M., sister, age 30, born WI. Biograph from Oconto Report 1896.

L. C. Delano

L. C. Delano was born at Oak Orchard in 1853, in a house that stood back of the present school house site. A plum tree planted in front of the dwelling still flourishes. It was the same year that Jesse Birmingham arrived in Oconto county.
When he was six years old his parents moved upon a homestead, remaining there till 1877. The property is now occupied by William Falque.
After the death of his father, L. C. (then married) purchased a house and lot at Brookside.  He leased and worked a farm adjoining and run his mother's farm on shares.

After a time he abandoned the life of a soil-tiller and engaged in the butcher business, and for two years furnished meat to the railroad company while the Milwaukee & Northern road was building through Abrams, north. For the past ten years he has engaged in the mercantile business, run a sawmill, bought and sold products of the soil, is doing a nice business and the proverbial wolf is a long way from the door.

    19 ii.   George Arthur DELANO was born in Wisconsin 1855. George died 1926 at 71 years of age. Buried Brookside cemetery, dates from gs.

    20 iii.   Carrie M. DELANO was born in Wisconsin 1861. She married Lawrence BELL in Brookside, Wisconsin, 27 Nov. 1883.

In Abrams on Tuesday, Nov. 27. The parties were Miss Carrie Delano and Mr. Lawrence Bell. The marriage ceremony was performed by Hunter Orr, justice of the peace.
    21 iv.   William DELANO was born in Brookside, Wisconsin 5/11/1862.

8. William W.3 DELANO (Leonard2, Thomas1) was born Jefferson Co., N.Y. 1831.

He married Eliza J. (?) DELANO circa 1853. Eliza was born in Vermont 1841.

ONE of the sons of W. W. DeLano was playing with cartridge and powder, on the 12th inst, and had his face and eyes badly scorched, but fortunately did not do any permanent harm.

Spouse, Barbara. He was a surveyer for Oconto County.

**FIRE AT BROOKSIDE.
On Friday morning of last week, the dwelling house of W.W. DeLano at Brookside Station caught fire and was burned to the ground. Mr. DeLano being absent at the time and Mrs. DeLano and family being alone until the flames had made great headway, that little of the household fiirniture etc. were saved. The fire is supposed to have caught from a defective stove pipe. The house was insured for about $800.00 while the loss was about $1000.

The 1870 U.S. Census pg 160. Town of Pensaukee, shows William age 38, Elize 29, children are Alice age 11, Frank age 10, Willis? age 7, Etta age 5, and Estelle age 1. His occupation is farmer. He is also shown on the 1880 U.S. census, age 49, occupation farmer, wife Eliza J. age 39 with children all born WL; Fred J., age    16; Etta M., age 15, Lillie E. age 11; Mark T. age 8, Tom P. age 7; Lora E. age 3 and George L age 1. They were residing in Pensaukee, Oconto Co., WI.

    23 ii.   Alice "Adda" DELANO was born 1859. Alice died 1918 in Oconto County, Wisconsin, at 59 years of age. Buried Brookside Cemetery dates from stone. She married Hiram Deillenback COOL in Little River, Oconto Co, Wisconsin, Feb 22, 1876. Oconto Country Reporter, Februan 26,1876.
Married-At the M.E. parsonage in Little River Feb. 22, 1876, by Rev. O.B. Clark, Mr. Hiram D. Cool of Brookside to Miss Adda DeLano of the same place. Wittness Barbara Lindsey Hiram was born New York State 1850. Hiram was the son of Benjamin I. COOL and Catherine " Katie" LINCE. Hiram died 1908 Oconto Co., WI., at 58 years of age. Buried Brookside Cemetery.

On the 1880 census living next to his father-in-law William Delano. He is age 30, born NY as were his parents, occupation former; Alice is age 20 and they have two children, born WI Edit E. age 3, and Lizzie M, 1 month. Also living with him is his brother Wilfred S. age 24, occupation farm labor, bora NY.
    24 iii.   William "Willis" DELANO was born Oconto Co., WI. 1863.
    25 iv.   Fred James DELANO was bora 1864. He married an unknown person Oconto Co.. WI., 6 Dec. 1889. Pre 1907 marriage index.
    26 v,   Etta M. DELANO was bom in Wisconsin 1865. May have been known as Mary E. and married in Oconto on 26 Nov. 1885.
    27 vi.   Estelle “Lillie” E. Delano.  She married Will Jackson.

April 9th, Miss Lillian DeLano, formerly of Brookside, was united in marriage to Mr. Will Jackson at Beaver, Wis.

    30 ix. Lora E. DELANO was born in Wisconsin 1877.

9. George Washington3 DELANO (Leonard2, Thomas1) was born in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY 1833.

He married Mary RUDD Jefferson County, NY, 9/12/1852. IGI records and correspondece with F, Barton Jacques.

George is on the 1870 Town of Pensaukee, U.S. census on page 159. It shows his age as 37, Mary as age 34, both born NY; and daughter Marion age 13, born WI. He is listed as merchant. On the 1880 census George is listed as farmer age 47, aflicted with lung disearse; Mary is age 46 and they have no children living with them.

Brookside

Mr. and Mrs. G. W. DeLano will leave Thursday, for St. Paul and St. Peter, Minn., for a month recreation with relatives there. Oconto County Reporter, Aug. 6, 1881

George W. DeLano has exchanged his farm of 160 acres, which lies on the south road, two miles south of the Brookside Post-Office, with Martin Defendorf, of West Pensaukee. The Defendorf farm is owned conjointly by G. W. DeLano, W. J. Abrams, R. Cravath and Mrs. Marion Bovee. It will be laid out in lots for building purposes, a depot, post office, etc., and to be christened Abrams.

The old store building owned by G. W. DeLano, formerly occupied by Russell & North, has been purchased by O. A. Gunwald, who will fit if up for a hardware store and will take possession the first of March.

Hon. G. W. DeLano has bought a lot in San Diego, Cal. He and Mrs. DeLano will return here in June and leave again in September. This will be their last trip back here as Mr. DeLano will have a house built and fitted up, which will be in readiness upon their return. Both Mr. and Mrs. DeLano will be greatly missed by a host of loving friends who will unite in wishing them many happy years in their new home to be under the balmy skies of southern California.

Abrams-

Cal North has purchased the rink of G. W. DeLano and will convert it into a dwelling house. He will then become a prominent resident of our village.

After George moved to San Diego, California he established a nursery there.

GEORGE W. DELANO, Brookside. Was born in Watertown, Jefferson Co., N. Y., in the year 1833; received his education in the schools of his native country.
Married Mary A. Rudd, of Watertown, in 1853. Came to Oconto Co., Wis., in the year 1855, and engaged in the agricultural and lumbering business (in town of Pensaukee), until 1869, and being of a speculative nature, dealt largely in pine and forming lands, then engaged in the mercantile business and continued in the same until 1873. His health being somewhat impaired, sold out his interest, and traveled until 1877. Served a short time in the late Rebellion; enlisted in the 39th Wisconsin, May, 1864, He built the first log cabin at Brookside, town of Pensaukee, and his wife was the first white woman there. He is prominent and influential, and the recipient of many public honors. Is now living on his farm, and is owner of 2,500 acres of farming and pine lands, mostly all farming.

10. Henry Frederick3 DELANO (Frederick2, Thomas1) was born in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY 11/01/1832. Henry died 4/16/1914 in Brookside, Wisconsin, at 81 years of age. Oconto VR, Vol 6, page 738

He married twice. He married Elizabeth S. (?) DELANO. Elizabeth was born Sept. 1844. Elizabeth died 12 Oct. 1864 Oconto Co., WL, at 20 years of age. Buried Brookside Cemetery, information from gs. Age at death 19 years, 11 months and 19 days.

He married Sara Jane LINCE in Brookside, Wisconsin, 6/12/1867. Sara was born Playton, New York circa 1848. Sara was the daughter of Philip LINCE and Ynshia BLODGES. Sara died 5/09/1920 Pensaukee, Wisconsin, at 71 years of age. Oconto VR, Vol. 8 page 46. Age at death 72 yrs, 9 months 16 days. Informant Mrs Jus. Bunil, RFD #3 Oconto. Childrens names from 1880 U.S. census.

Henry Frederick DELANO and Elizabeth S. (?) DELANO had the following child:

    33 i.   Edith O.4 DELANO was born Oconto Co., WI. Sept. 1862. Edith died 5 Oct. 1864 Oconto Co., WL, at 2 years of age. Buried at Brookside cemetery, age at death 1 year, 11 mo. 2 days.

Henry Frederick DELANO and Sara Jane LINCE had the following children:

    34 ii.   Mildred E DELANO was born 1871.
    35 Hi.   Sidney E. DELANO was born 1873. He married Mary BUNDY Oconto Co., WI., 8 April 1896.

Marriage
Sidney DeLano and Miss Mary Bundy were quietly married at Mrs. DeLano's home, Apr 8,1896, by Rev. E. D. Upson of Peshtigo. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Bundy and family, Mrs. Fred Fisher of Oak Orchard, and Mr. and Mrs. H. DeLano of Little River. Their future home will be in Little River.

    36 iv.   Henry P. DELANO was born 1879.  10 months old.

11. Edgar Alonzo3 DELANO (Frederick2, Thomas1) was born in Watertown, Jefferson County, NY 8/21/1834. Edgar died 10/7/1899 in Brookside, Wisconsin, at 65 years of age. Oconto VR, Vol 56, pg. 134. The death certificate gives his name as Edgar Augustine Delano. The following appeared in the
Oconto County Reporter
7 October 1899

DEATHS
Edgar DeLano of Brookside, aged 67 years, died last Monday night, after an illness of only two weeks. He was seized of summer complaint, from which he could not be rallied. Mr. DeLano was an old and respected citizen of the county and is survived by his wife and their three sons; Clarence and Bert DeLano of Little Suamico and Harry DeLano of Brookside. The latter has remained on the home farm. The deceased was a brother-in-law of Ex-Sheriff Whitcomb.

He married Caroline WHITCOMB in Brookside, Wisconsin, 1/18/1863. Caroline was born in Brighton, Kenosha Co. WT. 8/01/1843. Caroline was the daughter of Edmund WHITCOMB and Louise MARSH. Caroline died 11/07/1907 in Brookside, Wisconsin, at 64 years of age. Oconto Vital Records V. 5 pg. 50.

Sister H. D. Whitcomb This City - Three Sons Survive Her - Suffered With Cancer Six Years.
Mrs. Caroline Delano, one of the pioneers of the town of Pensaukee, died at her home in Brookside Saturday, November 2, after an illness of six years, with cancer in the face, aged 64 years.

Deceased was born in Brighton, Walworth County, August 1, 1843, and in 1861 came to Pensaukee with her parents and had been a continuous resident of the town since that time.

January 18, 1863, she was united in marriage to the late Edgar Delano and is survived by three sons, Clarence S. and Egbert of Suamico and Harry E. who resides on the old homestead. She is also survived by one brother, Harry D. Whitcomb of Oconto and an unlimited number of friends who mourn her departure.
The funeral was held from the Methodist church at Brookside Monday, Rev. C. G. Tollifsen officiating, with interment in the Brookside cemetery.

Submitters Note: Brighton is not in Walworth County, it is in Kenosha County.

According to Ed, his grandson, Edgar came to came to the Brookside area in 1858 when he was about 14 years old.   He served in he civil war after which he returned to the area. Currently available data indicates the Delano family were in CT. in the 1700's.

Sherman Clarence on 1880 U.S. census with parents and siblings. Clarence died 09/31/1939 in Oconto County, Wisconsin, at 74 years of age.

Clarence Delano, 74 Dies After Two-Year Illness

Clarence Delano, 74, passed away Wednesday in Oconto after a two year illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the Gallagher Funeral Home with Rev. L. C. Becker officiating. Interment will be at the Brookside cemetery.
The deceased was born April 5, 1865 in Brookside and moved to a farm in Little Suamico sixty years ago. In 1901 he was married to Ella Pillsbury in Menominee, Mich.

Besides his wife he is survived by four daughters, Miss Lorena Mount, Caledonia, Mrs. Olive Jacques, West Allis and Mrs. Gladys Longhurst, West Allis; two stepsons, Delbert Van Alsteen, White Lake, and Thomas Van Alsteen, West Allis; two brothers, Burt Delano, Little Suamico, and Harry Delano, Brookside, and nineteen grandchildren.

Ella was born Pensaukee, Oconto County, WI. 10/17/1872. Ella was the daughter of Thomas L PILLSBURY and Anastracia (Anna) Mernan ABRAY. She married (?) VAN ALSTEIN in Wisconsin, circa 1897. Ella died 10/07/1947 in Oconto County, Wisconsin, at 74 years of age. Burial Brookside Cemetery 10/11/1947. Oconto VR, V 16 Pg. 345.

    38 ii.   Egbert (Bert) DELANO was born in Brookside, Wisconsin 5/22/1867, Egbert died 12/03/1947 in Oconto County, Wisconsin, at 80 years of age. Oconto VR. V. 16 pag. 367.   Information given by Mrs. Art Matravers, his niece. He married Katherine C. PILLSBURY in Oconto County, Wisconsin, 02/10/1904. Pre 1907 marriages.

Katherine was born in Little Suamico, Wisconsin 08/09/1880. Known as Kate. Katherine was the daughter of Thomas L PILLSBURY and Anastracia (Anna) Mernan ABRAY.

Katherine died 12702/1926 in Oconto County, Wisconsin, at 46 years of age. Oconto VR, Vol. 9 pag 816. Bert's farm was located at Township 27, Range 20E Section 15, SE 1/2 of SE 1/4.

    39 iii.   Harry Ellsworth DELANO was born in Brookside, Wisconsin 1869. Harry died 1947 in Oconto County, Wisconsin, at 78 years of age. Buried Brookside Cemetery. Birth and death taken fron gs. He married Anne NERSCHBACK in Oconto County, Wisconsin, 8/16/1906.

Ann Nichols came to help care for Harrys mother when she was ill. She had previously been married to Herman Nichols and had a son Milton Nichols, born Mar. 17, 1902 in Oconto. This information from Helen Laduron Jelinski. Date of marriage from Oconto VR.

Anne was born in Germany Feb. 23, 1876. Anne was the daughter of John NERSCHBACH and Anna PAULY. She married Herman NICHOLS prior to 1902.

Anne died 1942 in Oconto County, Wisconsin, at 66 years of age. Buried Brookside Cemetery. Birth & death date from gs. Obit appeared in

Mrs. Harry Delano

Funeral services for Mrs. Harry Delano, 66, who passed away at the family farm home on County Road J, two miles north of Brookside Saturday night, were conducted Tuesday afternoor A large number of relatives and neighbors attended the brief service at the home at 1:15 o'clock, which was followed by the service held at the Oconto Gospel Chapel at two o'clock. The Rev. Gerald B. Smith was in charge of the funeral service, and burial was in the Brookside cemetery.

Mrs. Delano had been ill for several months with a serious heart ailment before death came about 1130 Saturday evening. Arrangements for the funeral were in charge of the McQueen funeral home.

The pallbearers were neighbors, including James Johnson, Ralph Crawford, Albert Krueger, Arthur Leigh, Fred Meyer, and Walter Behling. The flower girls who aided Mrs. Fred Meyer were Alta Kastner, Althea Kriewaldt, Adeline Mierke, Ruth Moak, LaVerne Belland, Ruth Meyer and Stella Alberts.

The deceased was born in Germany, February 23, 1876, had been a resident of the Couillardville area for the past 37 years. Besides her husband, Harry Delano, she is survived by two sons, Milton Nichols of Reedsburg, Wis., Edward of Oconto; one daughter Mrs. Arthur Matravers, Couillardville, and six grandchildren.
