DAVIS
Our last name is Davis and, because it is so common, I'm having an awful time tracing it. Knowing that their grandparents lived there for awhile, a cousin of my husband recently looked through a cemetery in Breed and found some Davises. The dates on the stones are right for them to be siblings of Doug's grandfather: Archie E. Davis - 1836-1948 Ralph A.E. Davis - 1836-1899 Richard Davis - 1817-1901 Alex Davis - 1865-1945 (Richard's son) Norrah Davis Knight, wife of James A. Knight - Richard's daughter, b. abt 1860 Both Richard and Alex appear in the 1880 Fed census that you have in your web-site. Thanks in advance for any information you can find, Franklin Pierce Davis b.1853 in Gates, Monroe Co, NY d. 1925 in Newald, WI married Ella Corine Babcock 1878 in Lincklaen, Chenango Co, NY. They both died in Newald, WI. I believe Franklin P. had a brother named William but this is not proven. Frank & Ella had 11 children. The first 4, born in N.Y. were: David, May, Floyd and Maude. The rest were born in Oconto Co. Some records say in the town of "How(e)", others say "Breed". The children born there were; Archie Eugene, b. 9/18/1888 Eleanor (Nora), b. 7/24/1890 Franklin Lee, b. 1/12/1893 Ella B, b. and died 2/2/1895 DeForest, b. 3/13/1896 (Doug's father) George Dewey, b. 8/25/1898 Maurice C, b. 3/3/1900 (His birth certificate gives place of birth as "Breed, Howe, Oconto") Records indicate that Franklin Pierce was born in New York and the 1860 Fed census shows that both his father and mother, Charles E. and Nancy, were also born in NY.
