Mr. F. X. Brazeau was born April 1st, 1829, at Beauharnois, Province of Quebec, Canada. He came to the United States in about 1846, locating at Two Rivers. From here with several companions he made an overland trip to California during the gold rush, spending six months in making the journey. He later returned to Canada and on October 23, 1855, he was married to Onezime Fortier at St. Benoit, Province of Quebec. With his wife and family he came to Oconto in May, 1870, making the trip by boat from Green Bay to Oconto.
He engaged in the store business with his brother, Sam Brazeau, under the firm name Brazeau Brothers, the partnership continuing until 1888, when Sam Brazeau disposed of his interest in the business to L.W. Brazeau from which time the business was conducted under the name of Brazeau & Son. "Frank" Brazeau was active in the owning and management of the family general store business in the West ward of the city of Oconto. Being amoung the first pioneer settlers to "Frenchtown", he also had considerable prestege in the governing, growth, and developement of that part of the city. He was looked to by the French-Canadian settlers for advice and direction, as a founding father.
Onezime, Frank's wife of 43 years, died September 2, 1898. Mr. Brazeau was a good citizen, upright and fair at all times in his business dealings and his life was blessed with happiness and contentment. He was survived by six sons and two daughters, J.P. of the town of Brazeau, A.J. of Milwaukee, Dr. G.N. of Racine, Mrs. Archie Salvo of Painesdale, Mich., L.W., Victor, J.D. and Mrs. Lessor of Oconto, all of whom were present for the funeral. He was also survived by his brother, Sam Brazeau, besides 34 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Among those from out-of-town who attend the funeral were the following: Frank St. Peter of Menominee, Mrs. M. St. Peter of Norway, Dennis and Adolph Dionne, and O.W. Brazeau and family of Lena, H. King, Ernest McMonigal and family.
F.X. Brazeau was an old and highly respected resident of Oconto for nearly fifty years. He peacefully passed away at his home on Brazeau Avenue at ten o'clock Monday morning on Aug 6, 1917 at the age of eighty-eight.
