WANDERER'S REST CEMETERY
GILLETT, OCONTO COUNTY, WISCONSIN

INTRODUCTION

The contents of this little booklet are the results of copying the data found on gravestones/markers in the Wanderer's Rest Cemetery of Gillett, Oconto co . WI . I then checked my findings against the records found in the City Clerk's office. As would be expected, I found data in the cemetery that wasn't in City Hall and they in turn had data that was not in the cemetery. The biggest reason for the differences being that many persons were buried without a grave stone or marker. Some time ago an effort was made to mark each of these graves with a metal marker but through the years MANY of these markers were lost, disturbed, misplaced and vandalized.

So after a great deal of checking and rechecking, I hope I have printed a fairly accurate account of Wanderer's Rest Cemetery, at least up to September 1990.

I have included in this booklet maps of the cemetery lots showing their number and location.  As you will soon notice there are TWO maps. One is for the Original Addition with lots numbered 1 thru 182.  When
they enlarged the cemetery they named the new part, the First Addition lots numbered 1 thru 168. As you see this could prove to be a little confusing.  So please keep this in mind when visiting the cemetery or writing to the City Clerk.

I have also included a list of the lot owners.   Each lot was usually divided into 8 sections so it is conceivable that you could have 8 different owners for one  eight sectioned lot.

Seeing mistakes are bound to happen and being human I make them too. I hope I haven't but if you do see any errors, I would appreciate hearing about them so they can be corrected.

Good Luck and I do hope this little booklet has been of some help.
