He was walking through the woods with a young man companion when the latter, who was a short distance ahead, failed to hear him coming and stopped and called. Getting no response, he went back and found Mr. Herald lying on the ground, dead evidently from heart failure.

Mr. Herald was a good citizen, a man of sterling worth, stict integrity and jovial kind disposition who had made a large circle of friends that were greatly shocked at the news of his sudden demise. The esteem in which he was held and the sympathy of sorrowing friends was evidenced by the mass of flowers which literally banked the room in where his body lay before their last sad journey to their final resting place. The funeral was held rom St. Joseph's Church at 9 o'clock Monday morning. Rev. Father Becker, Caron, and Schwartzmeyer officiating at solemn high mass and the following friends acted as pallbearers; Peter Donlevy, A.M. Martineau, P.T. Meuwsen, M.P. Belleu, Mike Flanigan, Martin O'Donnell.
