units of the
United States Army training in Ulster will be as familiar with
German Army weapons and their uses as they are with their own when
the invasion of Europe begins. To insure this fact, courses of
instruction now are in progress which are designated not only
to teach the men how to turn abandoned weapons on their
former owners but to impress as well the marked superiority
of American arms and equipment.
Among the men who have recently completed a course in familiarization with these weapons is S/Sgt. Leslie C. McAllan, 25, of Mountain. July 1945 Milwaukee Word has been received here of the death in action in France of T/Sgt. Leslie C. McAllan Mountain, Wisconsin, son of John McAllan, Milwaukee, on July 25. In service four years, he had been overseas for two and half years. Survivors are his father, formerly of Mountain; a twin brother, Cpl. Lester, somewhere in the Pacific;/Sgt. John, Elgin Field, Fla.; Archie, now discharged after overseas service; Everett, Wabeno; and four sisters, WAC Cpl Gertrude McAllan somewhere in England; Mrs. Berman Bowman, Mountain; Mrs. William Diamond, Milwaukee; and Mrs. Chester Bartz, West Allis, Wisconsin. T/Sgt. Leslie McAllan , 26 son of John McAllan of 2769-A N 7th., killed in infantry action on July 26,1045 in France. Was in 2nd division . Attended school in Oconto County, Wis. Three brothers in the service; a twin brother Lester at camp White, Org. S/Sgt. Archie, at after receiving wounds in action. A sister, Cpl. Gertrude, with a WAC Air Corps unit in London.
Family of Five in U.S. Service
Four sons and a daughter of John McAllan of 2759-A N. 7th are in the
armed services. Technical Sergt. Leslie McAllan, 25, with an infantry
unit in Ireland and his twin brother, Lester, with a quartermaster
company at camp White, Ore. Staff Sergt. John McAllan, 21, is with an
Air Corps. Gertrude McAllan, 36, is with the WAC air corps unit at
Galena field, Spokane, Wash. Sergt. Archie McAllan, 31, was wounded in
action in June, 1943, and is in a field hospital at Guadalcanal. All
formerly lived in Mountain, Wisconsin.

Arriving Saturday from Prance; Rites Will Be Held in Mountain The first of Oconto county's World War II dead to be brought back home for burial, the remains of Technical Sergeant Leslie C. McAllen will arrive in Suring Saturday, and rites will be held in Mountain Sunday in which service men of both world wars will participate. The body will be escorted to Suring by T/Sgt. Beuford D. McDonald. Services will be held Sunday at 1:30 in the afternoon in the Community Bible church with the Reverend Neil Martin officiating. The Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct military services. Burial will be in the Mountain cemetery. The Soulek funeral home of Suring is in charge of arrangements. Sgt. McAllan, son of John McAllan, was killed in action somewhere in France July 26, 1944, after serving four years in the Army, two and a half years overseas. He was one of five members of the McAllan family who served during the war. At the time of his death a twin brother, Cpl. Lester, was serving in the Pacific; T/Sgt. John was at Elgin Field, Fla.; Archie, another brother, had served over seas and was home with a medical discharge, and a sister, Cpl. Gertrude was in England. Other survivors besides his father were another brother, Everett, Wabeno; and three sisters, Mrs. Bernard Bowman, Mountain: Mrs. William Deudmond, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Chester Bartz. |
