Service
Joe enlisted in the US Army on August 17th, 1948.  He served with the 529th Quartermaster Petroleum Supply Company as a vehicle mechanic and was promoted to Corporal on September 5th, 1950.  He was discharged from Fort McCoy, Wisconsin on May 17th 1952 having earned the Korean Service Medal with 4 bronze service stars and a Unit Citation.  He was attached to Company E, 199th Engineer C Battalion at Fort McCoy.

FRANK EDWARD FONFEREK  was the father of Joseph James Fonferek. As a young man he enlisted with his brothers and served in WWI, rising to the rank of U.S. Navy Seaman 2nd class.
