1944 Lt. G. W. Baird Given Citation Special in Press-Gazette SURING, Wis - Lt. George W. Baird
Jr., has received the Presidential citation as a member of the 14th
Fighter group in Italy. This group was given the citation for shooting
down a large number of planes on an escort mission over enemy
territory. Lt. Baird, who previously piloted a B-17 was assigned to
pilot a P-38 Lightning Fighter, upon his arrival in Italy last May. He
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Baird, Suring. His wife and son reside
in Wausau, Wis.
