News Article Arthur Darrow of Lena, route 1, received a telegram from the War
department stating that his son, Sgt. Donald Darrow, was wounded in
action in Germany, Jan. 1, and died in France Jan. 2. He was with
General Patton's Third Army.
The soldier was born March 27, 1917 in town of maple Creek, Outagamie County, attended the grade school at Kelly Brook, and High school at Bear Creek, Wis. He was inducted July 8, 1942, received his training at Camp Switt, Tex., Ft. Sam Houston, Tex., camps in Louisiana, California and at Indiantown Gap, Penn., going overseas in August 1944. His last letter home was dated Christmas day. Prior to entering service he was employed by the Standard Oil Company at Clintonville. Survivors include his father; one sister, Dorothy, Canton Ohio, two brothers, Pfc. David of Truax Field, Madsion, Douglas, at home; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. August Paul, Bear Creek, Wis., Mrs. Carl Darrow, Reedfield, Wis. Memorial rites will be held next week at Sugarbush, near Clintonville. |
