Staff Sgt. David F. Gibson - Wife Mrs. Versa Gibson, Oconto, Wis.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (1944 news article and photo researched and contributed by: Dean Schaal from his mother's wartime scrapbook) 1944 Chances Seem Good Sgt. Gibson Is Safe Special in Press-Gazette OCONTO FALLS, Wis - Encouraging
news about S/Sgt. David Gibson has been received by his wife at Oconto
Falls, in a letter stating that three of the crew parachuted to safety
and that the plane, although badly riddled with flak, was under control
and apparently made a safe landing.
Sgt. Gibson has been reported missing in action over France since the middle of June, and the letter raises hopes that the young man is safe as a prisoner of war or with French patriots. Mrs. Gibson received the letter from a airman in another plane. Sgt. Gibson entered the service Jan. 7, 1842, and has been oversees for about three months. (Notes: Serial Number: 16056912 - Captured June 6, 1944 as a prisoner of war by Germany in the European Theater, France. Liberated in 1945.) |
