Mrs. G. Hallen Passes Away At Noon On Sunday
Aged Pioneer of Marinette Dies Suddenly of Apoplexy
Had lived here 57 years
Mrs. Godfrey Hallen, 78, estimable pioneer resident, died at her home, 1420 Carney Blvd., very suddenly Sunday noon of Apoplexy. She had been up and around the house all morning, when her son, Fred, who was returning from their farm, entered the house she went toward him to greet him, when she fainted and fell to the floor, not recovering consciousness again.
The deceased formerly Miss Barbara Bohman, was born in Austria. At the age of 18 she came to this country. She was married to Godfrey Hallen in Green Bay in 1869, shortly afterwards moved to Marinette, where she had resided ever since.
Out of a large family, only one sister, Mrs. Frances Plutchak of Daggett, Mich. Survives. Her daughters who survive are Mrs. J. Hamm, Spokane, who has been caring for her mother for a long time. Mrs. Hallen has been declining in health since the sudden death of her son, Michael, former sheriff, which occurred a year ago this month. The other surviving daughters are; Mrs. J. P. Miller, Fond du Lac; Mrs. Thomas Finn, this city, and Mrs. J. Kinneny, Milwaukee, Mrs. Wade Siebenthal, Morenci, Arizona, and sons, Fred, and Joseph, this city. Her husband preceded her in death four years ago.
Mrs. Hallen had resided in Marinette for fifty-seven years, living in that same house all that time. She passed through the Peshtigo Fire, having been in that city the night of that awful calamity.
The funeral will be held from the St. Anthony church at 9 o’clock Wednesday morning. Rev. Emil Seiter will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Home.
