Death: 08 Oct 1871
- Perished in the fire while returning to the Hotel on Sunday night when
the Fire struck. They found her ashes the next day. Beneath
her was her pie plate engraved (Emily), which was the only way of identifying
her ashes. She had been to her son Antoine Thomas Bruette's home for Sunday
dinner while Antoine (Sr.) was watching the Hotel . Antone escaped to the
river. Told to me by Ed Bruette

(Added note) Another Peshtigo resident, son of Charles and Amelia Bruette,
was Charles Bruette (Jr.). . Charles' (Jr.) wife and infant child died.
"Bruette, Mrs. Charles, and one child". Names
were wife Margrete, age 24, and infant child were reported dead in the
Peshtigo fire. Charles (Jr.) and daughter Carrie, age 5, survived. This
Bruette family was also from French Canada and immigrated to the US about
the same time as Antoine and Harriet Emily Bruette, 1845.
