This Indenture made the 15th day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven Hundred & Sixty One Between Adam STEPEN of the County of Frederick in the Colony of Virginia of the one part and Jacob HITE of the same County & Colony of the Other part Witnesseth that that the said Adam STEPHEN for & in Consideration of the sum of five shillings Current Money of Virginia to his in hand paid by the said Jacob HITE at or before the sealing & delivery of these Presents the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged Hath grants Bargained & Sold & by these Presents doth Grant Bargain & Sell unto the said Jacob HITE A Certain Piece or parcel of Land Containing thirty five acres being part of a Greater Tract of Land of two Hundred & fifty two Acres Granted to the said Adam Stephen by deed from the Proprietor Office bearing date ___ day of __ year of King George the second Reign and Situated in the County & Colony aforesaid on Hod____ (?)

Branch the bounds of the said thirty five acres of Land being as Followeth to wit Beginning at two Pine trees at the Head of a Foley Corner to Jacob HITE & Adam STEPHEN and Running S76E 40 poles Crossing Hopewell Branch to a Black walnut at the mouth of a Valley Corner to the said HITE and STEPHEN and extending then North 150 poles to two white Oaks at the side of a drain thence S64W 24 poles Crossing the said Branch to a White Oak upon a Hill thence S33W 21 poles to a Black Oak thence S6—30W 73 poles to a white Oak upon a Steep Hill side & thence S2E 61 poles to the Beginning Containing 35 Acres and all House Buildings Orchards Ways Waters Water Courses Profits Commodities Hereditaments & Appurtenances Whatsoever to the said Premises hereby Granted or any part thereof Belonging or in any wise appertaining & the Reversion and Reversions Remainder & Remainders Rents Issues & Profits thereof To Have & to Hold the said thirty five Acres of Land and all l& Singular other the Premises hereby Granted with the Appurtenances unto the said Jacob HITE his Executors Adm’s & assigns from the day before the date Hereof for & during the full Term and a time of one whole year from thence Next Ensuing fully to be Compleat & Ended yielding & paying therefore the rent of one pepper Corn on Lady day Next if the same shall be Lawfully demanded to the Intent and Purpose that by Virtue of these Present s& of the statute for Transferring uses into Possession the said Jacob HITE may be in Actual Possession of the Premises and thereby be Enabled to accept and take a Grant and release of the Reversion & Inheritance thereof to his and his Heirs. In Witness whereof the said Adam STEPHEN Hath hereunto Set his Hand and Seal the day & year first above Written
