Mary Adeline Duzett Answers Last Summons

Mary Adeline Duzett, after an illness of only a few days, died at her home here Jan. 9. On the lst* day of next May she would have been 80 years of age. She was an early Utah and Dixie pioneer, coming to Utah in the fall of 1847, leaving her mother to fill a grave on the lonely plains en route. She was the wife of Major Edward P. Duzett, who was a drummer in the Nauvoo Legion and who assisted in furnishing the music at the funeral services of the Prophet Joseph Smith. He preceded her about 38 years in death. Mrs. Duzett was generous, sympathetic and honest. Two daughters and one son survive: Margery Terry of San Bernardino, California; Ursella Smith of Monroe, and Hanmer Duzett of Emery, Utah.

Funeral services were held Jan. 10. The singing was furnished by the choir under the leadership of Morgan B. Edwards, and appropriate words of eulogy and respect were spoken by Bishop David Hirschi, Elder Thomas E. Flanigan of Springdale, and Elder Alfred L. Hall of Hurricane. The dedicatory prayer was offered by Elder George T. Jennings.

*Note: The obituary shows that she would have been 80 on May l, 1914. This should be May 31.
