Arvel Robert Milne

Arvel Robert Milne, 90, passed away August 19, 2002 in St. George, Utah.

He was born December 8, 1911 in St. George to Joseph J. and Hephzibah M. Milne.

Robert married Miriam Bentley on May 22, 1934 in the St. George Temple. She passed away in October of 1992. He later married Ora Sandberg Milne.

Robert resided in St. George for the first 27 years of his life, where he worked for Continental Oil, and was a principal in Milne Truck Lines. He also served as the second Fire Chief of the St. George Volunteer Fire Department.

In 1938 he moved to Salt Lake City due to the expansion of Milne Truck Line and later became its president. He served as president of Utah Motor Transport from 1958-59. He was also one of the founders of Transport Clearings and served a term as its president.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served a mission in the Northwest States Mission. His service continued in the church, including scouting, bishopric, high council and stake presidency. His last calls in the church included a call to serve in the High Priest Group Leadership at age 89 as well as home teacher.

Robert is survived by his wife, Ora of St. George; his three children, LeRoy (Connie) Milne, Ogden, Ut; Dorothy (Phil) Kotter, and Marilyn (Al) Ebert, both of Salt Lake; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by Ora's family, Sheron (James) Fitch, serving as mission president in South Africa; Richard (Sherry) Milne, Salt Lake; Ann (Larry) Staples, St. George; 19 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Merlyn Milne and sister Ruth Roundy, both of St. George.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Miriam; sister, LaRee Lamoreux; brothers, Willard, Earl Richard, and Finley Lorraine Milne; stepson, Mark Joseph Milne and step-grandson, Steven Daniel Milne.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 23, 2002, 11 a.m. in the SunRiver LDS Branch Chapel, 4461 Country Club Dr., Sun River, St. George, Utah.

Graveside services were held Saturday, August 24, 11 a.m., Wasatch Lawn Park (Resthaven Section) 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City.
