A Brief History of Sevier County

In January of 1865 Sevier County was formed from part of Sanpete County.  The county is named after the Sevier River, the name is derived from the Spanish Rio Severo, meaning severe river.  The county lies in the high Plateau of central Utah, in the valley of the Sevier River, with most of the towns along the river.  Richfield is the county seat.
