FAIRVIEW PIONEER CEMETERY

Tom and Anita Sanders have volunteered to transcribe information from the sexton's log book at the Fairview Pioneer Cemetery, with support from the city of Fairview, Utah. Thank you Tom & Anita! Our Volunteers are important!

Transcriber's Notes

This transcription was made December 1-2, 2005 from Carolyn Hansen's book. Records in the book are grouped by the year of the interment. You will notice that names in this report are not spelled consistently. We tried to use the names as they were written in the book. There are "penciled in" comments made by others who have used this record over the years. We attempted to capture those notes in the "Comment" column on the right of this spreadsheet.

Creating this transcription has been a very tender experience. Here is a record of hundreds of deaths that occurred in a lightly settled wilderness in the last half of the 19th century. These people weren't the sturdy mountain men, or the '49ers' looking to get rich. These were families with women, children, adolescents, as well as the elderly... living in a wild the frontier without the basic skills or technologies required for safety and preservation of life. There was a high price paid by these people. These records clearly show that the most vulnerable ones... the little children... paid the highest price.

The official record book in the Fairview City offices contains interment information through 1959. This transcription covers the years 1860 through 1900. So more work remains to be done.
