John Farris

John Farris was born in Matagorda County on March 4, 1892. He was the son of Matagorda County natives Wonder Farris and Lee Young Farris who were married in Matagorda County on June 18, 1880.

He enlisted in the Army on July 17, 1918 and served as a cook in the A-445th, Reserved Labor Battalion, Quarter Master Corps. He was honorably discharged on February 25, 1919. His service serial number was 3517878.

In 1930 he was living as a boarder on Calhoun Street in Houston as a boarder in the household of Marie Stewart. He was working as a cook in a cafe.

John died of lobar pneumonia brought on by influenza at his home at 1413 Live Oak Street in Houston, Texas on April 1, 1939. He was buried near Cedar Lane, Texas.
