December 28, 1876
in Corpus Christi, Texas (Nueces County). He married Josephine
Prado about 1895. John died April 20, 1942 in Houston, TX and is
buried in Palacios Cemetery (Matagorda County). Josephine Prado
Roach was born about 1880, possibly in
Cotulla,
TX (La Salle County). Josephine died after 1912 and before 1919 and
is said to be buried in
Cotulla,
TX. John Roach married Mrs. Nannie E. Clark on July 9, 1919 in
Palacios, Texas.

Chapel Tuesday evening at 7.
Born July 21, 1896 in Cuero, Texas, she was the
daughter of the late John T. Roach and Josephine Prado Roach. A long
time resident of Palacios she passed away Tuesday October 28, in
Wagner General Hospital.
She is survived by three sisters, Margaret
Balderas and Josephine Gonzales of Palacios and Dorothy Ottino of
Bay City; four brothers, Ben Roach, Sr. and Johnny Roach of
Palacios; Walter Roach of Houston and many nieces and nieces.

Mrs. Roach was born
March 8, 1902 in Thomastown to Sepreno and Liberida Gonzales
Longoria and died June 17, 1993 at Leisure Lodge Nursing Home in
Palacios.
She was a member of
the Catholic church and a lifelong resident of Palacios.
Survivors include
two daughters, Gloria Salazar and Margaret Sanchez, both of
Palacios; a son, Ben L. Roach Jr. of Palacios; seven grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Texas] - Margaret Roach Sanchez, 86, of Palacios, passed away
Monday, Feb. 4, 2008. She was born March 27, 1921, in Palacios, to
the late Janie Longoria Roach and Ben Roach Sr. Mrs. Sanchez
was a life long resident of Palacios and a member of St. Anthony's
Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Hope Terrasas and husband Victor of
Palacios; two sons, Lucio Sanchez Jr. and wife Lucy of Houston and
Robert Sanchez of Palacios; sister, Gloria Salazar of Palacios;
brother, Ben Roach Jr. of Palacios; eight grandchildren; and 14
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sanchez was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lucio
Sanchez Sr.; and son, Edward Ray Sanchez.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.,

Feb. 6, 2008 at Palacios Funeral Home. Mass will be held at 3 p.m.,
Thursday,

Services Held Tuesday For Fred Balderas
Fred Balderas, of 1212 Summer St., Houston,
Texas, died of a heart attack while playing golf at Glenbrook
Country Club, Sunday, August 10.
He was a member of the first Latin-American
amateur baseball team in Houston. In the years between 1920 and 1936
he played on many Houston amateur teams including the police team.
He also played on a Palacios team.
He was a member of Woodmen of the World Camp 2333
and Cosmos Masonic Lodge No. 39 of Houston.
Mr. Balderas married the former Margaret Roach on
July 21, 1923. They had no children but raised J. V. Ottino.
Besides his wife and J. V. he is survived by two
brothers, Juan Balderas of Reynosa, Mex., and Luis Balderas of
League City, Tex. Four brothers-in-law Ben, Johnnie and Walter Roach
of Palacios, and Ralph Roach of Houston. Three sisters-in-law, Mrs.
Rutilio Gonzales, Mrs. John Ottino, and Mrs. John Frazier, all of
Palacios.
Services were held at 8:15 a. m. on Tuesday in
Houston. The body lay in state from 1 until 4:30 p. m. at Taylor
Brothers Funeral Home in Palacios and graveside services were held
at 4:30 p. m. in Palacios Cemetery.

Walter Roach was
born in Cuero February 10, 1903 and died June 28 at the Bay Shore
Hospital in Pasadena, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Toni, in 1987 and one son, Walter, in 1980. Survivors include
daughters and sons-in-law Delores and Jim Holloway of Spring; Jo Ann
and John Preston of Houston; Josephine and John Schoenherr of
Victoria, Dorothy and Jack Ogden of Houston, Vera and George Munro
of Clute, and Billie and William Vest of Katy; son and
daughter-in-law Freddie and Bobbie Jean Roach of Houston; sisters,
Margaret Valadras of Palacios, Josephine Gonzales of Palacios and
Dorothy Ottino of Bay City; brothers John Roach of Palacios and
Ralph Roach of Houston; 26 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Toni S. Roach, 79, of South
Houston, were held June 16 at 2 p.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic

Mrs. Roach was born July 20, 1907 in Victoria,
the daughter of Justo and Mary Fuentes Samarippa [Zamarippa]. She
died June 14, 1987 at Methodist Hospital in Houston.
A former resident of Palacios for 45 years, Mrs.
Roach had been living in South Houston for the past 15 years.
Survivors include her husband, Walter P. Roach of
South Houston; six daughters and sons-in-law, Dalores and Jim
Holloway of Spring, Jo Ann and John Preston of Houston, Josephine
and John Schoenherr of Victoria, Dorothy and Jack Ogden of Houston,
Vera and George Munro of Clute and Billie and William Vest of Miami,
FL; one son and daughter-in-law, Freddie and Bobbie Jean Roach of
Houston; three sisters, Abelia Gill of Houston, Stella Sausada and
Beatrice Vargas, both of Victoria; one brother, Elmo Trevino of
Victoria; 26 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Walter
Roach, on Jan. 30, 1980.
Pallbearers were Craig Ward, Chris Holloway,
Kevin Ogden, Joey Munro, Sean Sell and Mike Roach. Honorary

He was born April 13, 1906, in Palacios, to the late John and
Josephine Prado Roach. He was a retired grocery Clerk and a member
of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Survivors: wife, Helen Smith Roach; daughter, Mary Jean Jones of
Houston; son, Tom Roach of Houston; sister, Josephine R. Gonzales of
Lake Jackson; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: sisters, Louise Frazier, Margaret Balderes and

Mary Helen Roach, 86, passed away
Sunday,
November 4, 2007. She was born
August 5, 1921 in Palacios to Mae Taylor and Claude Smith. Her life
was being a loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and
friend. She married John P. Roach on April 5, 1937, and together
they had two children: Mary Jean Jones and John Thomas Roach. Mrs.
Roach was a life long resident of Palacios and has lived the past 6
years in Houston, TX. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic
Church and of the Catholic Daughters in Palacios.
She is survived by her daughter: Mary Jean
Jones and her son: John Thomas Roach, both of Houston; by 16
grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great
grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law: Joyce Taylor and Jody Gonzales, as
well as numerous nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by
her husband: John P. Roach, her parents: Mae Taylor and Claude
Smith, 2 brothers: Tom Smith and Bobby Taylor, son-in-law: Joe M.
Jones and grandson: Tyler Roach.

Senior Center, Catholic Daughters and active in the Palacios
VFW Queen-Hamlin Post 2467.
She is survived by daughters Stella Dorsett and husband Ron,
Linda Garcia and husband Jesse, and Rosemary Gonzales, all
of Houston; son Augustine Gonzales, Jr. and wife Yvette of
Houston; sister Margie Acosta of Bay City; grandchildren
Erik Gonzales, Jessica Garcia, Leslie Garcia and Jordan
Garcia; niece Dee Ann Schwan and husband Alex; and great
niece Devin Schwan.
She was preceded in death by her husband Augustine Gonzales,
son John Anthony Gonzales, brother J. V. Ottino and
brother-in-law John Gilbert Acosta.

Ralph Roach
Services were held June 8, 1990 at the Palacios
Funeral Home for Ralph Roach of Houston. Rev. Casey
Jarzombek officiated at the ceremony and at the
burial at the Palacios Cemetery. A rosary was said
Thursday evening.
Roach was born May 6, 1910 in Cuero to John Roach
and Josephine Prado Roach. He died June 6, 1990 in
Houston.
He is survived by his son, Dan B. Roach of Houston;
sisters, Dorothy Ottino of Bay City, Margaret
Balderas of Palacios, and Josephine Gonzales of
Palacios; a brother, Johnny Roach of Palacios; and
grandchildren Todd, Kristy, and Kyle Roach of
Houston.
Roach was retired from Texaco after 25 years as a
petroleum engineer. He was a member of the Texaco
Country Club of Houston for 25 years, and he was the
founder of the Rockport Country Club.
Pallbearers were John Preston, Jim Holloway, Jack
Ogden, George Munro, Freddie Roach and John

Gonzales, 98, of Palacios, Tx., were held at
Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Bryan Heyer
officiating. Interment was at Palacios Cemetery.
Mrs. Gonzales passed away Sept. 21, 2010 in the
arms of her daughter, minutes after having
received the Last Sacrament, administered by
Msrg. Leo Wleczyk.
On Aug. 3 she had celebrated her 98th birthday
with family, friends, and the entire Country
Village Care Center, where she had been a
resident.
Josephine had been a life long resident of
Palacios, active at St. Anthony’s Catholic
Church in Choir, altar society, and as “Parcel
Post Lady” at church bazaars.
She is survived by her four children: Louis
Nicholas Gonzales Sr.; Aurora Jordan; Rudy
Gonzales Jr.; and Betty Bartness. Also Carmen
Gonzales, Gary Bartness, and friend and
caregiver Lucia Alvarez Hernandez.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rudy
Gonzales Jr. She was the last surviving member
of the Roach Clan of Palacios: Mary Louise
Frazier; Ben Roach, Margaret Balderas, Walter
Roach, Johnny Roach, Dorothy Ottino and Ralph
Roach.
Pallbearers were Nicky Gonzales, Bret Bartness,
Bart Bartness, Aaron Mason, Ryan Mason, and
Terry Coldwater. Honorary pallbearers were Ben
Bartness, Stan Mason, Gary Bartness, Rudy
Gonzales IV, Auggie Gonzales, and Tommy Roach.
The family is appreciative of the love and care
of each individual at Country Village.

Funeral services for Rutilio Gonzales, 80, of
Palacios were held Monday, Oct. 26, 1992 at the
Palacios Funeral Chapel. Interment followed at

Mr. Gonzales was born Nov. 21, 1911 in Bay City.
He died Oct. 24 1992 in Wagner General Hospital.
He was a member of the Catholic Church, a
resident of Palacios for 60 years and a veteran
of World War II.
He is survived by wife, Josephine Roach Gonzales
of Palacios; two daughters and a son-in-law,
Betty and Gary Bartness of Jones Creek and
Aurora Jordan of Houston; two sons and a
daughter-in-law, Louis and Carmen Gonzales of
