WHITFIELD LAKE CEMETERY This cemetery is located off State Highway 21 West, turn left on Strawther Lane. The cemetery is located behind a house and just before the Kickapoo Creek bridge. This is on private property, and the stones have been removed. Name Born Died Misc Thomas, J. July Toby, G. Toby, G.W. Feb. 1875 16 Aug. 1880 Vaughn, Clara 30 July 1844 9 Sept. 1882 Others were probably buried here, but no record of them has been retained. From the Madisonville Meteor of May 26, 1994: MEMORIAL PLACED AT CEMETERY Houston Lighting & Power Company recently placed a memorial alongside Madison County Road 413 at the entrance to the Campbell property to recognize the century-old Whitfield Lake Cemetery. HL&P's northern transmission line has run through the Campbell property since 1963. The site of the Whitfield Lake Cemetery was of particular interest to Mr. Howard Cooper of El Paso, who recently found a reference to it while researching his family genealogy. Even though the exact location of the cemetery is unknown, Mr. Cooper contacted HL&P seeking assistance in placing an appropriate marker for this site. The cemetery was established in the early 1800s and is believed to be the resting place of J. Thomas, G. Toby, G.W. Toby and Clara Vaughn. However, the identity of all buried there is unknown. The new memorial is a tribute to these early settlers of Madison County.
