Mary Lou Cameron Yackel

September 11, 1943 – November 10, 2022

Mary Lou Cameron Yackel (79) of Louise passed away on November 10, 2022 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born September 1, 1943 in Ganado, Texas to Margie Bowen Cameron and Cleeland Cameron of Port Lavaca Texas. Later, Mary Lou had a step father, Harry Bram, whom she adored. She spent her early years growing up in Lolita, Texas before moving to Louise Texas where she attended high school and was a cheerleader. While attending Louise High school, she met the love of her life, Jimmy Allen Yackel. They were married for 57 years before his death in 2015. She was an excellent cook, and they hosted many BBQ’s at their home where all the extended family (brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews) would gather to visit. They welcomed anyone into their home, and fed everyone.

Mary Lou worked as a housekeeping supervisor at Garden Villa Nursing Home in El Campo for 30 years. She enjoyed her work, loved the residents, and had many friends there.

She is survived by her four children, Ricky Yackel (Becky) of Louise, Vicky Yackel (Billy Cast) of Brazoria, Rhonda Schoeneberg of Louise, and Tammy Munson (Patrick Korenek) of Louise. She had 10 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and brother Cleeland “Sonny” Cameron Jr. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Evelyn “Fern” Dybala.

As a loving mother, she was the glue that held the family together. She spent many nights laughing and playing dominoes with Jimmy, her daughter Tammie, and her late son in law Keith Munson at their kitchen table. She loved going to her son Ricky’s house to visit and would stay up well into the night visiting and drinking a few with her beloved daughter in law Becky. Mary Lou and her daughter Rhonda had a morning ritual of drinking coffee together on her front porch and visiting before they began their day. She was a wonderful Granny to her grandchildren, whom she loved to spoil. She enjoyed attending as many of their activities as possible, had endless patience and hugs, and always had her cookie jar full!

Mary Lou was a light in the lives of all who knew her, and she leaves a legacy of love with her passing.

The Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Friends Pay Tribute To Leonard V. Yoas; Rites Held Jan.5

Friends of L. V. Yoas were shocked when the message came that he had passed away of a heart attack on Jan 3.

Mr. Yoas was born to Sofford and Hannah Yoas on Sept. 25, 1891 at Lowell, Kansas. He came to Ganado with his parents when a lad in Oct. 1907 and had lived in Jackson County on his farm south of Ganado ever since.

In June 1956 he was married to Mrs. Katherine Eutcher from Chicago, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, three brothers, Ernest of Little Kentucky, Everett of Texas City and Forest of Edna; one sister, Mrs. Hortense Yoas Jones of Dickerson and five nephews and two nieces.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church at Ganado Sunday Jan. 5 with Rev. E. E. Reeves officiating. Interment as made in Ganado Cemetery. Pallbearers were Reuben Kramer, Malbert Adler, Forest Ludwig, Herbert Schveneberg, Howard Martin and Jerry Peters.

Honorary pallbearers were Forest Knudson, Ben Huseman, John Kramer, W. H. Huseman, B. H. Pearce, E. V. Stephenson, Hershell Lambert, Lee Martin, Robert DeHaven, Harry Englemohr, Dave Feltman, Walter Schomberg, Gus Englemohr and Alvin Girndt.

The array of flowers and the host of friends gathered there bespoke the esteem in which Mr. Yoas was held.

Those from away who attended were: Everett C. Yoas and Charles Yoas of Texas City, Mrs. Hortense Jones of Dickinson, Howard and Ralph Yoas from Austin; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ramsey, Mr. and Mrs. Doyle McElroy, Mrs. Agnes Spangle, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. McClung, all of Cuero.

Stephenson and daughters of Yoakum, Jessie Thomas Crowell, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Roome, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Schoeneberg all of Louise, and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Brady from Houston.

L. W. Yoas was a man of sterling worth, a man who gave his best in any undertaking, yet of such a retiring nature that he brushed aside any praise with a slow smile as if to say, “That’s part of my being here. I live for my friends.”

To him, his neighbor was one whose need he had the power to supply. He loved to live. He loved to give. He numbered his friends by his acquaintances. For Leonard “To live was Christ and to die was his gain.”

We shall miss him from our midst, still we feel that, since he loved nature and walked with God, “over there” all is well, and that the master has welcomed our friend, “Well done!”

To his loved ones let us say: He’s not dead, he’s just away; the “house” he lived in is under the sod, but he, himself, is home with God. Try to live so that each day you’ll be ready when God shall say, “Come higher, be at Home, in the blessed Upper Room.”—(Contributed by a friend.)

Lee Roy Young

November 6, 1947 - January 1, 2021

Lee Roy Young of Edna, went to be with the Lord, on Friday, January 1, 2021, at the age of 73. He was born in Victoria, Texas on November 6, 1947, to the late Lee “Roy” Young and Dorothy Bruce.

Lee grew up in Bloomington.  After he graduated high school he went to Victoria College and Texas A&M in Kingsville.  He earned a degree in both Agriculture Education and Elementary Education. After college, he served time in the Army and was stationed in New York.  He left the service and moved back to Texas.  He started working for BP in west Texas.  When his son, Jason, wanted to move back to south Texas, they moved to Goliad and Lee began teaching in Kennedy.

Lee met Susan in 1996 and they were married on June 7, 1997.  After they married, he moved to El Toro.  During their first year of marriage he worked offshore.  In 1998 he left the oil industry and started teaching in Bloomington.  That same year Lee bought his first three cows. In 1999 he started teaching in Edna and taught for seven more years before retiring from teaching.  In 2006, he returned to the oil field as a gauger with Total and then DNS.  Lee retired from that as well to focus on his cattle business.

He was an animal lover and a rancher at heart. His cows, dogs, and cats were especially important to him, and he loved when his grandchildren, Abby and Ty, came to help him feed the cows. Lee was a very conscientious person and was well like by all who knew him. He loved his family, and they all loved him. We are heartbroken by his death, and we pray covid will soon be gone, as it has taken our loved ones sooner than we hoped.

Lee is survived by his loving wife of 23 and a half years, Susan Young; children, Amy Marie Gebbert (Aaron) and Jason Roy Young (Brandy); grandchildren, Hailey Young, Emma Young, Abby Gebbert and Ty Gebbert; sister, Iva Fuzzell (Norm); nieces, Shalene Holtzclaw, Penni Petersen, Stacy Lynn Scott, and Misty Helms; nephews, Bobby Helms, Jimmy Fuzzell, and Rick Fuzzell.
