Brenda Lynn Tamez
1965 ~ 2013

Victoria – Brenda Lynn Tamez, 48, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. She was born on January 8, 1965 in Houston to Guadalupe Espinosa Castaneda and the late Ruben P. Tamez.
 
Brenda was a generous, caring person, a great cook, and she always had a big ready smile for everyone. Brenda never had her own children, but she had lots of love for all of her many nephews, nieces and cousins.

In addition to her mother, Brenda is survived by her sisters, Cynthia Ann Sanchez of Missouri City, Melissa McCurdy of Edna, Jessica Castaneda of Victoria, and Rosalind Euper of Lufkin; brothers, Mark Anthony Tamez of Victoria, Steven William Tamez of San Jose, California, Joe Castaneda and Christopher Castaneda, both of Victoria; she is also survived by her uncles, Julio and Roland Espinosa, both of Edna.

Brenda is preceded in death by father, Ruben Tamez, and Step-father, Jesus Castaneda.

The family will receive friends at Grace Funeral Home on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 6-7 p.m. A rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services are 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2013 at Grace Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. at Latin American Cemetery in Edna.

Pallbearers are Jamian Espinosa, John Roland Espinosa, Carlos Eddington, Raul Gracia, Kyle Tamez, and Art Reagan. Honorary pallbearers are Justin Espinosa, Chris Castaneda, and Brenda’s co-workers at First Victoria Bank North Branch.

Brenda will be missed by her family, friends, co-workers, and all who knew her.

Memorials may be directed to Our Lady of Victory School in the name of her beloved niece, Ciera Tamez.

Gus Tegeler Jr.

Gus Tegeler Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2018 after bravely enduring an extended illness. Gus was born in Ganado, Texas on Sunday, Aug. 11, 1935 to the late Gus and Ella Quebe Tegeler. He was a graduate of Ganado High School, served in the United States Army in Germany and retired from Alcoa in Point Comfort in 1997 after 35 years of service. He enjoyed carpentry work, gardening, and mowing in his spare time.

Gus made one lucky trip around Green's Drive-In in Edna when he met Phyllis "Blondie" Rasmussen. Sparks flew and they married on July 16, 1957 at St. James Lutheran Church. Gus and Blondie were blessed to mark their diamond anniversary milestone, celebrating 60 years of marriage with family and friends.

Gus is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Harry Tegeler, Sr. and Wilton Lee "Butch" Tegeler.

Gus is survived by his wife, and his five children: Keven Tegeler and wife, Cynthia of Louise; Monica Bard and husband Gary of El Campo; Tyanne Rakowitz and husband Bill of Ganado; Holly Bowen and husband Ken of Edna, and Kolby Tegeler of Ganado. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren: Krystl Spacek and husband James of Conroe; Kassidy Neiderhiser and husband Brad of Louise; Randy Rakowitz and wife Gretchen of Montgomery: Ali Sulak and husband Wes of Spring; Ross of Edna; Michaelah Morgan of Edna; Jaxon Morgan of Edna, and Jax Talyn "JT" Gerjes-Tegeler of Edna. Gus was doubly blessed with six great-grandchildren: Rustyn and Ridge Rakowitz, Mason and Connor Sulak, and Addilynn and Caroline Neiderhiser. He is also survived  by his brother, Wilfred Tegeler, of Ganado, and sister Elverna Nelson of Rogers, Arkansas.

Visitation will be held at the Ganado Funeral Home on Monday, April 30 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at St. James Lutheran Church, Ganado, at 10 a.. on Tuesday, May 1 with interment following in the Ganado Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Randy Rakowitz, Ross Rakowitz, Kyle Tegeler, James Spacek, Brad Neiderhiser and Wes Sulak.

Alexandra Renea Tharp

Our beautiful daughter, Alexandra Renea Tharp, 'Alex' to those who knew her, was born in Jacksonville, Fla. on Aug. 20, 1993 to Diane Houck-Merritt and Christopher Tharp. She was raised by Diane Lynn Merritt and David Matthew Merritt. Alex passed away on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018. She was surrounded by her mother, father, dad, and her man. Roland Arredondo, she will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Alex is survived by her mother Diane Houck Merritt, father David Merritt, dad Christopher Tharp, brother Lucas Tharp, grandparents Joe and Glenda Tharp, also numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents Elizabeth and Oscar Houck.

There will be a Celebration of Life service on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Edna with Robert Krause officiating.

The family has requested a private interment at the cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the family to help with the medical and funeral expenses.

Mary Barbara Thedford

Mary Barbara Thedford, 78, of Lolita, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017.  She was born on July 7, 1939 to Charlie and Mary Finley, the seventh of 13 children.

Mary is survived by her sons, Curtis Thedford, Charlie Thedford, Steven Thedford and his wife Carla, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Roswell Eugene Thedford, and two brothers and two sisters.

There will be a visitation on Monday, Nov. 20 from 5-7 p.m. at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel in Edna. The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 21 at First Baptist Church, Lolita.

Ester Naomi Thomas

Houston—Ester Naomi Thomas of Houston died Sunday, Nov. 11 2007 in Durham, N. C. She was born in Edna to the late Robert Patterson and Tummie Dakmon Patterson. She was a retired classroom teacher.

She is survived by her brother, Dr. Cecil Patterson of Durham, N. C.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Levine Thomas; and brothers, Robert Jr., Wesley, Frederick and Jethro Patterson.

Funeral services will be at 1 p. m. Saturday at St. Andrews United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at 4:30 p. m. at Sayles Cemetery in Edna.

Wilmot “Woo” Thomas

 

Wilmot "Woo" Thomas, 54, passed away January 2, 2017 in Victoria. She was born April 25, 1962 in Edna to the late Wallace Wysong, Sr. and Precious King Wysong. She well known for her famous Woo Burger and Woo Wings.

 

She is survived by her husband, Cassius Thomas; 3 children, Precious Wysong, Markell Smith, and Jacobe Mitchell; 3 sisters Priscilla Gildon, Genecia Wysong Johnson (Willie) and Kay Wysong; 2 brothers, Wallace Jr. (Melissa) and Bobby (Cris)Wysong; 1 grandchild, Raven Woods (Cody), and a host of other relatives and friends.

 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 12 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church in Edna with burial to follow at Mount Olive Cemetery. Final arrangements entrusted to Cook-Butler Funeral Home, 361-782-3821.

Flossie Thompson

Edna—Flossie Thompson, 83, died Friday in an Edna hospital after a short illness.

Born Dec. 7, 1900, in Jackson County, she was a retired cook. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sedahlia Chapter, Edna.

Services will be at 1 p. m. Monday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Sayles Cemetery in Edna conducted by Cook Brothers Funeral Home, Edna.

Pallbearers will be B. T. Allen, Drushel Ross, Hayward Robinson, Burney Ross, Cordell Allen Jr. and Franklin Napier.

A daughter, Clarence Edwards, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hannah Sayles Thompson

Edna—Funeral services for Mrs. Hannah Sayles Thompson, 66, of Germantown, Md., a native of Jackson County, will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday from the Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. R. A. Hicks officiating.

Burial will be in the Sayles Cemetery under direction of Cook Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Tom B. Sayles, Isiah Sayles, Mitchell Sayles, H. Mack Young, Walter Young and Robert Young.

Mrs. Thompson was born Nov. 28, 1906 near Edna, and taught school some 25 years in the former Lavaca Community School in the county. She moved to San Antonio, then had been in Maryland about 14 years. She died there on July 8.

Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Mary Perkins of San Antonio; two daughters, Mrs. Eva Grooms and Mrs. Theresa Barnes, both of Germantown; two brothers, Mitchell Sayles of Edna and James Henry Sayles of San Antonio; and three grandchildren.

Willie Thompson

Edna—Willie Gaulden Thompson, 85, of Edna, died Wednesday, May 25, 1994.

He was born Aug. 10, 1908, in Edna to the late Sam and Mary Williams Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a retired butcher. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Survivors: sisters, Sarah Dorm of San Antonio and Mary Ann Barnes of Edna; and brothers, Louis Holcomb of Portland, Ore., and Lee Andrew Washington of Edna.

Visitation: 9 a. m. – 6 p. m. today at Cook-Butler Funeral Home.

Services: 10 a. m. Saturday, Shiloh Baptist Church, the Rev. G. L. Roberts officiating.

Dan Tisdell

Edna—Funeral services for Dan Tisdell, 51, of Houston, a former Edna resident, will be held at 1 p. m. Wednesday from the Shiloh Baptist Church in Edna, with the Rev. R. A. Hicks officiating.

Burial will be in Sayles Cemetery under direction of Cook Funeral Home of Edna. Pallbearers will be Louis Barnes, James Callis, J. C. Williams, Chester Chase, Walter Young and Hillery Edwards.

Mr. Tisdell was born June 4, 1921, at Inez, and lived many years in Edna. He was a veteran of World War II and had been in Houston several years and was employed by a department store there. He died Saturday in a Houston hospital.

Surviving are a brother, Robert of Houston, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Henry Mason Totman Jr.

Henry Mason Totman Jr. passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 in Victoria. Henry was born in Erie, Pa. to Henry Mason Totman Sr. and Lois Mae Depew Totman.     

Henry served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his children, Stephanie Miller and husband, Brad, Lois Schaffer and husband, Richie, Henry Totman III and wife Amy; seven grandchildren, Scott Miller, Ryan Hadley, Dylan Totman, Caleb Hadley, Kylie Totman, David Miller, and Landon Schaffer;  and sister, Keren Mosley.

Henry will be dearly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Totman Sr. and Lois Mae Depew Totman Fry, his wife of 48 years, Shirlie Totman; brother Eddie Totman and sister Kathy Grosshans.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17 at their residence at CR 448 LT 985 in Francitas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Edna Christian Academy or the Industrial Education Foundation.

Shirlie Fay VanEtten Totman

Shirlie Fay VanEtten Totman, 68, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017. Shirlie was born on Friday, July 16, 1948 in Whistler, Mobile County, Ala. to Warney Sherman VanEtten and Viola Olivia Bridges VanEtten, she had seven brothers and sisters.

Shirlie worked at Industrial School District for 18 years, and was married to her loving and wonderful husband for 48 years. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Shirlie is survived by her husband, Henry Totman, Jr.; her daughters, Stephanie and Brad Miller, Lois and Richie Schaffer; and her son, Henry and Amy Totman, III. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Scott Miller, Ryan Hadley, Dylan Totman, Caleb Hadley, Kylie Totman, David Miller, and Landon Schaffer; and two of her siblings.

Shirlie was preceded in death by her parents, and five of her siblings.

There will be a Memorial Service at their residence, 985 CR 448 Francitas, on Saturday, April 8, at 4 p.m.

Donna Sue Trail

Donna Sue Trail, 67, of Edna, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017 Donna was born on Fe. 19, 1950 in El Campo, to Monroe Jerkins and Eula M Donahue Jerkins.

Donna was an LVN for many years in Jackson County.

Donna is survived by her stepsons, also her brothers and sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.

There will be a private Celebration of Life Service at a later date.

Alice Trevino

Alice Trevino, of Webster, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at the age of 50. She was born in El Campo on July 26, 1966, to Eusebio Trevino and Orfelinda Andrade Trevino.

Alice was a loving granddaughter, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend who will be missed dearly.

Alice is survived by her parents, Eusebio and Orfelinda Trevino; sisters, Carol Trevino and Norma Scott and her husband Stephen; brothers, Alfred Trevino and his wife Esmeralda, Mark Trevino and his wife Candice, John Trevino and his wife Jody; niece, Madison Trevino; nephews, Cameron Trevino, Clayton Fernandez and his wife, Lindsay, Clifton Fernandez and his wife Brittney, Scott Tillery, Jordan Trevino and his wife Tiffany, Braden Trevino, Blake Trevino, Jacob Trevino, and Laken Barker; great-nephews, Tate Fernandez and Carter Fernandez.

Alice is preceded in death by her grandparents, Nicholas and Maria Andrade; and Sisto and Julia Trevino.

Ben Trevino

Edna—Ben M. Trevino, 62, of Edna died Monday in a local hospital following a long illness.

A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p. m. Tuesday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating.

Burial will be in Edna Latin American Cemetery.

Mr. Trevino, a native and lifelong resident of Edna, was born Jan. 9, 1927, to the late Frank and Victoria Martinez Trevino. He was a former elevator operator for the Rice Belt Warehouse Inc. and a former member of the Edna G. I. Forum. He was also a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary M. Trevino of Edna; four sisters, Josephine Falcon of San Antonio, Linda Basquez of Bay City, and Otilia Vasquez and Lucy Trevino, both of Edna; and a brother, Raymond Trevino of Edna.

Pallbearers will be Robert Basquez, Robert Bocanegra, Armando Ballin, Albert Trevino, Richard Vasquez and Joe Trevino Jr.

Christopher  Lee Trevino

Edna—Graveside services for Christopher Lee Trevino, two-day-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Mickey Trevino in Edna, will be held at 4:30 p. m. Sunday in the Edna Latin American Cemetery, with the Rev. Msgr. Raymond Garcia officiating.

Slavik Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Surviving, in addition to the parents, are paternal grandparents Raymond Trevino of Edna and Joyce Trevino of Victoria; and maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Braulio Lopez of Edna.

The infant died Saturday in a local hospital.

Daniel Ray Trevino

Edna—Daniel Ray Trevino, 44, of Edna died Thursday, Sept. 12, 1996.

He was born July 18, 1952, in Edna. He was employed by Victoria Independent School District maintenance department. Mr. Trevino was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Survivors: wife, Velma Hernandez Trevino; daughter, Brook Trevino of Edna; mother, Lucy Trevino of Edna; and brother, Robert Bocanegra of Abilene.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. today at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating.

Jose M. Trevino

Jose M. Trevino, 57, of Route 6, died early Sunday in a local hospital following an illness of five months.

Born Feb. 23, 1925, in Edna, Mr. Trevino was the son of Victoria Martinez Trevino and the late Cresencio Trevino.

He was a former resident of Mississippi and resided in Victoria for the past 24 years. He was employed by Victoria County at Victoria Regional Airport.

A rosary will be recited Tuesday at 8 p. m. at Artero Memorial Chapels.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p. m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Esther Vasquez Trevino of Victoria; his mother, Victoria Martinez Trevino of Edna; two daughters, Mrs. Maggie Encinas of Victoria and Mrs. Mary Ceballos of Austin; two sons, Johnny Joe Trevino and Mike Trevino, both of Victoria; four sisters, Mrs. Otilla Vasquez and Lucy Trevino, both of Edna, Mrs. Josephine Falcon of San Antonio and Mrs. Linda Basquez of Bay City; two brothers, Raymond Trevino and Ben Trevino, both of Edna; and six grandchildren.

Mr. Trevino was preceded in death by a brother, Ruben Trevino, and a sister, Janie Ballin.

Juan Covarrubias Trevino

Houston—Juan Covarrubias, 83, of Houston, formerly of Jackson County and Pontiac, Mich., died in a local hospital Wednesday, June 17, 1992, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Trevino was born Dec. 27, 1908, in Mexico to the late Andres and Fernanda Covarrubias Trevino. He married the former Maria Salinas on Aug. 17, 1937, in Edna and was a self-employed laborer and a Catholic.

Survivors: daughter, Isabel Lozano of Sugar Land; sons, Valentin Trevino and Johnny Trevino, both of Houston, and Reynaldo Trevino of Goodrich, Mich.; sister, Petra Rios of Inez; brother, Silvestre Trevino of Pontiac, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by wife on April 15, 1988; three sisters; and two brothers.

Rosary 7 p. m. Friday at the Slavik Funeral Home chapel, Manual Hernandez officiating.

Funeral Mass 10 a. m. Saturday at the St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna, the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating.

Juanita Lugo Trevino

Juanita “Janie” Lugo Trevino, 61, of Edna passed away Tuesday March 13, 2012. She was born March 18, 1950 in Edna to Alfred and Beatrice Lugo.

She is survived by her husband, Jose Raymond Trevino; daughter, Lucia Trevino Espinoza, sons, Alfred, Martin and Paul Lugo and Joe Trevino; sisters, Rosie Baez and Margarita Lopez; brothers, John Lugo, Joe Lugo and Felix Lugo.

She was preceded in death by her parent; sisters, Sara Lugo and Clemencia Lugo; brothers, Conception, Nicholas and Alfred Lugo.

Visitation was held March 15 along with a rosary. Funeral services were March 16 at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel in Edna. Burial followed in the Edna Latin-American Cemetery.

Lucy Trevino

Edna—Lucy Trevino, 77, of Edna, died Monday, June 15, 1998.

She was born Aug. 13, 1920, in Edna, to the late Frank and Victoria Martinez Trevino. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Survivors: son, Robert Trevino Bocanegra of Abilene; sisters, Josephine Falcon of San Antonio, Linda Basquez of Bay City and Otilia Vasquez of Edna; brother, Raymond Trevino of Edna; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. today at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 10:30 a. m. Thursday at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna, the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating.

Burial will be at Edna Latin American Cemetery. Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152.

Velma A. Trevino

Edna—Velma Ann “Chilly Willie” Trevino, 38, of Edna, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006.

She was born July 26, 1967, in Edna, to Ignacio and Elosia Guevara Hernandez. She was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Survivors: daughter, Brook Ann Trevino of Edna; sisters, Nora Hernandez, Gloria Hernandez, and Sylvia Hernandez, all of Edna, and Michelle Reyes of Port Lavaca; brothers, Richard Hernandez, Ignacio Hernandez Jr., and Miguel Hernandez, all of Edna, and Raymond Hernandez of Victoria; and grandmother, Eusebia Hernandez of Edna.

Preceded in death by: husband, Daniel Ray Trevino; grandparents, Jose M. Hernandez, Cora and Felix Guevara; and great-great-grandmother; Nellie Hernandez.

A rosary will be recited 7 p. m. tonight at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 10 a. m. Tuesday at the chapel.

Burial will be at Edna Latin American Cemetery. Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2152.

Victoria Trevino

Edna—Funeral services for Victoria Trevino, 87, of Edna, who died Thursday in a Victoria hospital, will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna.

The Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Edna Latin American Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard Vasquez, Gary Falcon, Robert Basquez, Armando and Noel Ballin and Mickey Trevino.

Mrs. Trevino was born Jan. 22, 1899, in Gonzales. She was a housewife and member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Trevino, in 1937.

Surviving are four daughters, Lucy Trevino and Otillia Vasquez, both of Edna, Josephine Falco of San Antonio and Linda Basquez of Bay City; two sons, Ben and Raymond Trevino, both of Edna; two sisters, Olivia Gomez of Edna and Mary Tijerina of Victoria; a brother, Valentine Martinez of Calif.; 29 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

Vincent Moreno Tristan

Edna—Funeral services for Vincent Moreno Tristan, 44, of Houston, formerly of Jackson County, will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the St. Agnes Catholic Church here, with the Rev. James Coindreau officiating.

Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Mr. Tristan, who was employed by a Houston Auto Agency, died in a Houston hospital Sunday. He was born Jan. 22, 1932 in Ganado and lived in this county until 1970.

Pallbearers will be John, Felix, Steve and Charles Vasquez, and Felix and Ismal Tristan.

Surviving are his wife, Sandy Tristan, and mother, Catarina Tristan of Houston; daughter, Stacy Lynn of Edna; son, Vincent Jr. of Edna; three sisters, Virginia Vasquez and Ella Escalona of Houston and Lucy Vasquez of Victoria; and a brother, Mike Tristan of Victoria.

Mrs. Lizzie B. Turner

Edna—Funeral services for Lizzie B. Turner, 50 of Edna will be held at 1 p. m. Monday at the Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. R. A. Hicks officiating.

Burial will be in Sayles Cemetery under the direction of the Cook-Butler Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jessie Robinson, Kenneth Brooks Jr., Milton Rhodes, Ronnie Norman, Billy Joe Barnes and Clifford Caesar.

Mrs. Turner was born April 13, 1928 in Hill County. She died in a local hospital.

Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Lillian McCoy of Edna; seven daughters, Vauriece, Beveraly, Patricia, Jacquelyn, Terrilyn and Janice, all of Edna and Wanda of Wharton; four sons, Maurice and Caldwell of Houston, Andrew of Markham and Ronnie of Edna; and a sister, Jonnie Lee Jordan of Wharton.

Louise Turner

Louise Turner, 82, passed away Sept. 7, 2017 in Houston. She was born in Edna, Dec. 28, 1934 to Mamie and Walter Brown Sr.

To cherish her memory she leaves a brother, Rev. J.D. Brown, devoted daughter Itasca Turner, son QuNard Brown-Turner, and grandson.

Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 15, from 4 to -7 p.m. at Cook-Butler Funeral Home, Edna. Funeral services are 1 p.m., Saturday. Sept. 16 at Scruggs Methodist Church in Edna with burial at Chase Cemetery.

Patricia Ann Turner

Edna—Patricia Ann Turner, 46, of Edna, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998.

She was born Jan. 10, 1952, in Edna, to the late Alvin and Lizzie B. McCullough Turner. She worked in domestics service and was a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ.

Survivors: daughter, Latricia Turner of Edna; son, Joseph Turner of Edna; sisters, Varice Rue, Terrilyn Turner, Wanda Norman and Janice Turner, all of Edna, and Jacquelyn Turner of San Antonio; brothers, Maurice Turner and Carswell Turner, both of Houston, and Andrew Turner and Rodney Turner, both of Edna.

Visitation will be held from 9 a. m. to 8 p. m. Friday at Cook-Butler Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 1 p. m. Saturday at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, with Elder Andrew Jordan officiating.

Pauline Turner

Pauline Turner, 21, died Monday night, January 28, 1952 in Edna. She was the common law wife of George Bankhead, local laborer.

Funeral services are set for 2 p. m. Thursday at Shiloh Baptist Church, Rev. S. H. Jackson officiating. Cook Funeral Home will direct burial in Sayles Cemetery.

Surviving are her father, George Turner, and stepmother, Sewille Turner, both of Edna; two sisters, Lucille Hebert of Edna and Maceline Turner of Orange, and four half-brothers, Elbert Hansford and Charles Holmes, both of Cuero, George Powell of Orange and Arthur Powell of California.

Leslie Tyler

Leslie Tyler, 89, of Ganado, Texas passed away on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, Leslie was born on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 1928 in Sublime, Texas to Charles and Elizabeth Oakes Tyler.

Leslie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Irene Tyler; his sister, Linda Lopez of Cuero; his sister-in-law, Shirley Tyler of Lake Jackson;  children, Bob Tyler, Kenneth Tyler and his wife Carolyn, Donald Tyler and Kathy Tyler Gilbert and her husband Brad; grandchildren, Desiree Tyler Hawkins and her husband James, Christi DeWitt, Robert DeWitt and his wife Kassey, Thomas Tyler and his wife Tracey, Phillip Tyler and his wife Michelle, Alan Kitzpatrick, Eric Fitzpatrick, Erin Fitzpatrick and Stephen Gilbert; great-grandchildren, Kaylah Compton, Shane Hawkins, Brad Kawkins, Matthew Tyler, Mark Tyler, Carson DeWitt and Jarett DeWitt, and great-great-grandson, Audie Hawkins. He is also survived by a large extended family and a great many friends.       Leslie is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth Oakes Tyler; his siblings, Roy Tyler, Margie Cardinal, Vernon Tyler, Delores Perry, Harold Schrader, and Barbara Sheffield; and his grandson Kevin Tyler.

Pallbearers were Alan Fitzpatrick, Eric Fitzpatrick, James Hawkins, Ryan Compton, Thomas Tyler, Brad Burttschell and Michael Schurtz.

Visitation was held on Sept. 24 at the Ganado Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral was Sept. 25 with Pastor Ruben Castillo and Pastor Ryan Carpenter officiating at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel. Interment immediately followed at Ganado Cemetery.

Services were under the direction of Russell Todish of Ganado Funeral Home, 361-771-2120.
