Olivia Sanchez

La Ward—Olivia Zuniga Sanchez, 75, of La Ward, died Saturday, March 11, 2006.

She was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Hualahuises, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to the late Jose Cruz and Dolaores Charles Zuniga.

Prior to moving to the United States she was an elementary teacher in Mexico. Olivia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and was the no. 1 fan at all of her children and grandchildren’s athletic and educational events. She was always available to those in need and loyal to her family. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Survivors: husband Pedro Jay Sanchez; daughters, Juanita Williams of San Antonio, Mary Gutierres and Cleo Sanchez, both of La Ward, and Delores Sanchez of Houston; sons, Noe Sanchez Sr., Pedro Sanchez Jr., Albert Sanchez and Ruben Sanchez, all of Houston, Eutimio Sanchez Sr. and Javier Sanchez Sr., both of LaSalle, Nathaniel Sanchez of La Ward, Jose Sanchez Sr. of Katy, and Juan Sanchez of Lolita; sisters, Maria Louisa Zuniga and Maria Isabel Zuniga, both of Monterrey, Mexico, and Dolores Zuniga of Hualahuises, Nuevo Laredo, Mexico; brothers, Jose Cruz Zuniga, Sarafin Zuniga, Francisco Zuniga, Ruben Zuniga and Miguel Angel Zuniga, all of Monterrey, Mexico; 20 grandchildren; six step grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.

May she enjoy eternal rest in the gardens of Heaven.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p. m. Tuesday at Oaklawn Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 10 a. m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Edna, the Rev. Patricia Herndon officiating.

Burial will follow at Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita, Texas. Rev. Patricia Herndon and Rev. Eutimio Z. Sanchez, Sr. will be officiating the service. Pallbearers will be all of Olivia’s sons.

C. E. Sappington

Edna—Claude E. Sappington, 68, former long time resident of Jackson County, died at 5 p. m. Sunday in a hospital in Pontotoc, Miss.

Mr. Sappington had lived most of his life in Jackson County, and was a member of Lolita Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc, Miss.

Survivors include his wife, Edith, of Pontotoc; six sons, Claude Jr. “Pete” Sappington of Edna, H. L. of Rogers, Ark., Jerry of Orangevale, Calif., W. M. of the U. S. Navy in Florida; Jackie L. and Perry S., both of Memphis, Tenn., two daughters, Mrs. William J. Fouts of Pontotoc and MRs. Steve Willingham, of Graham, Tex.; three sister, Mrs. Lura Ellingsley of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Zettie Browning of Pontotoc and Mrs. Roamie McCraw of Pontotoc; and 18 grandchildren.

Harold Sappington

Driscol—Harold E. Sappington, 53, of Driscoll died Friday at 5:30 a. m. at his home following an illness.

He was born May 3, 1935, in Lolita, son of the late Jessie James Sappington and Tula Lucretia Willoughby.

Funeral services will be at 11 a. m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Driscoll and at 4 p. m. at the First Baptist Church of Lolita.

Burial will be in the Red Bluff Cemetery near Lolita. Cage-Mills Funeral Directors of Everhart Chapel in Corpus Christi is in charge of arrangements.

He was survived by his wife, Hazel Sappington of Driscoll; a son, Jessie Sappington of Driscoll; three daughters, Mary Lucretia Sappington of Driscoll, Annette Potts of Magnolia, Ark. and Patricia Minchew of Minden, La.; four brothers, James E. Sappington of Edna, Johnny J. Sappington of Victoria, Jonathan Sappington of Vanderbilt and William F. Sappington of Lolita; two sisters, Jessilee S. Thedford of Lolita and Mary S. Burt of La Ward; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Spohn Hospital Hospice in Corpus Christi or to the American Cancer Society.

James E. Sappington

Edna—James Elbert Sappington, 77, of Edna, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002.

He was born Aug. 13, 1924, in Jackson County, to the late Jesse J. and Tula Willoughby Sappington. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, serving in WWII. He was a retired teacher and coach for Edna ISD and a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors: wife, Faye Bozeman Sappington; daughter, Charmianne Womack of Orange; son, James “Jim” Sappington of El Campo; sisters, Jessilee Thedford of Lolita and Marybelle Burt of La Ward; brother, William Sappington of El Campo; and six grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents; and brothers, Jonathan Sappington, Johnny Sappington and Harold Sappington.

Services will be 11 a. m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Edna, the Rev. Jim Gilbert officiating. Slavik Funeral home, Edna, 361-782-2152.

Annie Schlitzkus, Native of Germany, Is Buried Monday

Funeral services were held at 3 p. m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Lolita for Miss Annie Schlitzkus, 79, of Lolita. Rev. H. O. Bilderback, the pastor, officiated.

Interment was in the Red Bluff Cemetery, with the Psencik Funeral Home in Ganado in charge.

Miss Schlitzkus was a native of Germany. She passed away Sunday in the hospital at Ganado.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. J. Klaus of Lolita and Mrs. W. H. Lindsey of Waco.

Glendola S. Schroeter

Glendola Slaugher Schroeter, 72, of Victoria, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005.

She was born Jan. 11, 1933, in Edna, to the late Frank and Viola Dill Slaughter. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.

Survivors: daughter, Beth Caraway of Victoria; son, Robert Schroeter of Victoria; and two grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband L. D. “Rip” Schroeter.

Visitation will be 6 – 8 p. m. Sunday at Rosewood Funeral Chapel.

Services will be 2 p. m. Monday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, the Rev. Joe Waak officiating.

Carl J. Schubert, Sr.

Edna—Carl J. Schubert, Sr., 82, of Edna, died Friday, March 1, 2002.

He was born April 15, 1919, in Bishop, to the late Charles and Martha Urban Schubert. He was a retired owner and operator for Sarges Exxon Service Station in Vanderbilt and a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during World War II and the Korean conflict.

Survivors: wife, Elnora Koop Schubert; daughters, Linda Charbula of Edna and Carolyn Francis of Wharton; son, Carl J. Schubert, Jr. of Spokane, Wash.; brother, Johnny Schubert of Missouri; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p. m. Sunday at Redeemer Lutheran Church of Edna, the Rev. Aaron Steinbrenner officiating.

Donald Ray Schumaker

Palacios—Donald Ray Schumaker, 59, of Palacios, died Monday, June 28, 1999.

He was born June 1, 1940, in Sullivan City, to the late Floyd and Isobel Tucker Schumaker. He was a boiler maker, employed by the Union.

Jessie Schumaker

Palacios—Jesse “Polly” Schumaker, 63, of Palacios died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006.

She was born Nov. 13, 1942, in Port Lavaca to the late Jack D. and Wheelie Ray Garbe. She was a homemaker and a volunteer at the Food Pantry in Palacios.

Survivor: sons, Ronald Schumaker of Victoria and Donald Schumaker of Lolita; sister, Jacque Garbe of Palacios; and three grandchildren.

Kathryn N. Schumaker

Lolita—Kathryn Nell Schumaker, 76, of Lolita, died Saturday, May 8, 2004.

She was born Jan. 13, 1928, in Edna, to the late Oscar and Ina Terrell Brown. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Lolita.

Survivors: daughters, Gena Peters of Ganado and Linda Allen of Lolita; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Eugene Schumaker; sister, Mildred Steinbauer; and brother, Homer Brown.

Harvey August Shutt

Edna—Harvey August Shutt, born June 7, 1921 son of John P. Shutt and Lydia Spree Shutt, went to meet his Lord Nov. 7, 2003. He attended Lutheran Parochial School in Koop Settlement and Casablanca School. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific. Member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Farmed 45 yrs in Jackson County and worked 16 yrs with Jackson Countywide Drainage He is survived by his wife of 58 years Mary Browning Shutt, son Clinton P. Shutt of Edna, daughters Linda Callaway Stewart & spouse WO of Pasadena, Tx, Phyllis Thompson-Jones & spouse Fred of Edna, and Anna S. Johnson of Victoria. Brothers, John A. Shutt of Ganado, Weldon E. Shutt of Edna. Sisters, Vera Born Regers of Edna and Deloris Slay of Inez. Fourteen grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Herbert E. Shutt and Alfred F. Shutt and three grandangels.

Services Sunday Nov. 9 at 3:00 P. M. at Redeemer Lutheran Church with visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 at the church. Interment at Red Bluff Cemetery near Lolita.

Edward Simek

Inez—Edward Simek, 75, of Inez, died Thursday, May 6, 1999.

He was born July 16, 1923, in Charcoal, to the late Charles and Mary Hybner Simek. He serviced in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was a construction pipefitter of H. B. Zachary.

Survivors: sons, James E. Simek of Vanderbilt and David Lee Simek of Inez; sisters, Elizabeth Butler of Nordheim. Katy Boubel of San Antonio and Sophia Lawlor of Red Wood City, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: wife, Marie Nappi Simek; daughter, Linda Mae Simek Callaham; sister, Edith William; and brothers, Felix Simek, Allen Simek, Charles Simek and Laton Simek.

Mrs. Alice Viola Slaughter

Edna—Funeral services for Mrs. Viola Slaughter, 71, of Edna will be held at 3 p. m. Thursday from the Slavik Chapel, with Herbert Hahn officiating.

Burial will be in the Red Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Mrs. Slaughter was born Feb. 11, 1901 in Nacatusch, La., but lived most of her life in this county. She died Wednesday in a Victoria hospital after an illness of six weeks.

Surviving are her husband, Frank Slaughter of Edna; a daughter, Mrs. L. D. (Glendola), Schroeter of Victoria; a sister, Mrs. Alvie Linton of Los Angeles, Calif.; three brothers Woodrow Dill of Victoria, Almott Dill of Portr; and two grandchildren

B. F. Slaughter Services Today

Rites were held this afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Red Bluff Church for Benjamin F. Slaughter, 86, retired farmer and former resident of Jackson County, who died at Yorktown Tuesday at 10:35 p. m. after a lingering illness.

Rev. Frank Hollan officiated and burial was in the Red Bluff Cemetery.

Mr. Slaughter was born in Lavaca County July 12, 1866. He resided in the Red Bluff area for more than 20 years and for the past several years had made his home at Yoakum and Yorktown. He also lived in Victoria and Lavaca Counties.

Survivors include four sons, Almond and Frank of Edna, Oscar of Victoria and Lee of Palacios; two daughters, Mrs. Ella Hogen of Bloomington and Mrs. Emma Voss of San Antonio, and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Marie Robertson of Baytown.

Jack Lee Smith

Jack Lee Smith of Edna died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007. He was born in Guadalupe County to George Wyatt Smith and Alba Ruth Hughes Smith on Jan. 14, 1932. He attended school in Prairie Lea, graduated from high school in 1950, and attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College and Victoria County Junior College. He was a veteran, serving in the U. S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Magnolia Oil and Mobil Oil Corporation for 38 years. He owned and operated Crossroads Grain of La Ward for 20 years. He is preceded in death by his parents and first wife Marian Keist Smith. He is survived by his wife, Caren Vance Smith; daughters, Linda Cecile Bell and husband Michael of Spring, Carolyn Sue McKay and husband Bill of Vancouver, Wash.; son, Keith Lee Smith of Corpus Christi; his sister, Billie Ruth Linscomb; and nephew, Joe Linscomb of Odem. He is also survived by his grandsons Ryan, Jason and Sean Bell and Benjamin and William McKay.

He was a member and ruling elder of Edna Presbyterian Church. He served as an adult 4-H leader and coach of the archery and rifle teams. Additionally, he was a member of the Texas Grain and Feed Association and South Texas Country Elevators Association, where he served on the board of directions. He was active in his community and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Burial will be at the Red Bluff Cemetery in South Jackson County at 9:30 a. m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2007. A memorial service will follow at Edna Presbyterian Church at 11 a. m., with Rev. Terry Bozarth officiating.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Joe Linscomb and Michael Bell. Honorary pallbearers will be Lamar Boyd, C. J. Holubec, Dick Koop, Chet Robbins and the men of Edna Presbyterian Church.

Memorials may be made to Edna Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 726, Edna, TX 77957.

John Reagan Smith

Edna—John Reagan Smith 63, of Edna, passed away on March 3, 2007. He was born on Nov. 10, 1943 to the late Faye Murphy (Jack) Smith and Mary Gertrude Peters Smith in Eagle Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Coleman Smith of Edna; sisters, Dixie Gotcher and husband Bill of Fairborn, Ohio, Charlene Lindsey, Doris Bowen and husband Dyer of Richmond, Raydell Crossswhite and husband Roger of Katy; a brother, Richard Smith and wife Bonnie of Thompsons, two aunts, Dorothy Walker of Eagle Lake and Val Schultz of Richmond; cousins, Barbara Tise and husband Clarence of Edna; and numerous cousins and relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Charlie Wasicek, and a sister, Jo Fay Cowell.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 5, at 2 p. m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Paul Kise officiating. Interment will follow in Red Buff Cemetery in Lolita.

Lolita Man Killed In Blazing House - Byron Snyder

Lolita—An early morning fire Sunday claimed the life of a Lolita resident, Byron Snyder, 59, when flames virtually destroyed the house occupied by Snyder and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Snyder. The blaze was discovered about 3:30 a. m. by Snyder’s parents. They awoke him, and believed him to be outside as they fled through a window from the flaming home. The dead man had been in poor health, and had been weakened by an illness, it was reported.

Fred Kelton, president of the Lolita Volunteer Fire Department, said that the blaze had been caused by faulty electrical wiring. Fire Chief Clem Fisher broke a window in an effort to rescue Snyder as firemen battled the blaze.

Parts of a few walls remained standing after the fire was extinguished, but nothing was saved.

A verdict of accidental death was returned by Justice of the Peace Les Psencik of Ganado.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Monday at Psencik Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. H. O. Bilderback, pastor of First Baptist Church of Lolita officiating. Military rites will be held at the graveside in Red Bluff Cemetery, with Hillyard-Yost Post 346, American Legion, in charge.

Pallbearers will be members of the VFW Post in Lolita.

Surviving are two sons, Ronnie and Michael of Corpus Christi; his parents; one brother, Marvin, and one sister, Mrs. Floy Young, both of Lolita.

Mrs. Ruby Snyder

Edna—Mrs. Ruby Snyder, 87, of Edna died Tuesday in an Edna rest home

Funeral services are tentatively set for 2:30 p. m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Lolita, under direction of Slavik Funeral Home of Edna. She was born March 31, 1884.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Anderson Young of Lolita; a son, Donald Snyder of Edna; and a brother, D. Morgan Snyder of Brownwood.

Mary Frances Spring

Mary Frances Elder Spring, 77, of San Antonio, formerly of Lolita went to be with our Lord and Savior on Jan. 20, 2011. She was born in Seguin on Feb. 6, 1933 to Willie “Pete” Elder and Gertrude Miller Elder. She was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved he family dearly, often saying “family was her greatest blessing.” She loved the Lord and loved to sing and play country and gospel music with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Hugh Spring of San Antonio; son, Kim Spring and wife Debbie of Edna; daughter, Melody Hofer and husband Steve of Morgan Hill, Calif.; daughter, Robin Atkinson and husband Preston of San Antonio; sisters, Ann Morris of Lockhart and Sandy Allman of La Vernia; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers L. F. Elder and Willie Elder; and one sister, Inez Elder.

Pallbearers were sons-in-law, Preston Atkinson and Steve Hofer; grandsons, John Spring, Samuel Hofer, Sammy Rippamonti, Jeffery Gerdes, and Derrick Elliott; and great-grandsons, Riley Gerdes and Hayden Rippamonti (honorary pallbearer).

Visitation was held on Jan. 22, at Slavik Funeral Home. Services followed at 2 p. m. at First Baptist Church in Edna. Interment was held at Red Bluff Cemetery.

Annie S. Stafford

Edna—Annie S. Stafford, 79, of San Antonio and formerly of Edna died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999.

She was born March 4, 1920, in Edna, to the late Henry and Ellen Gipson Hopes. She was a homemaker and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Survivors: daughter, Linda Edwards of Corpus Christi; sons, Cecil George Stafford of Corpus Christi and Henry Hopes Jr. of Edna; and three grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Cecil Stafford.

Services will be 12 noon today at LaPaz Mortuary in San Antonio.

Cecil Stafford

Edna—Cecil Stafford, 81, of Edna died Thursday, Jan. 20, 1994.

He was born, Jan. 3, 1913, in Edna to the late George and Mollie Reed Stafford. He was a World War II veteran. He was a retired restaurant worker for Edna Restaurant. Mr. Stafford was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Leon Stafford Jr.

Edna—Leon G. Stafford Jr., 70, died Tuesday morning in an El Campo nursing home.

He was born Dec. 2, 1919, in El Campo to the late Leon G. and Carrie Belle Wilson Stafford Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. Thursday at Cook-Butler Funeral Home with the Rev. Claudis Prince officiating.

Burial will follow in Kerr Cemetery under the direction of Cook-Butler Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from noon until 9 p. m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Sammie Robinson, Robert Reed Jr., Alvin Stovall and Loyal, Edward and Don Stafford.

Surviving are one son, Leon Stafford III of Los Angeles, Calif., and one brother, Cecil Stafford of Edna.

Nolan D. Stafford

Ganado—Nolan D. Stafford, 58, of Ganado, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001.

He was born Oct. 20, 1942, in Houston, to the late Franklin and Evelyn Swan Stafford. He was a scheduler at Formosa and a member of First United Methodist Church in Ganado.

Survivors: wife, Linda Stafford of Ganado; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Marion Stafford of Pontchatoula, La.; daughters, and son-in-law, Ronna and Edward Cross of Chalmett, La., and Shauna Packard of Joplin, Mo.; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Peggy Stafford of Port Lavaca; sister-in-law, Sherlie Benzie of Greenville, Texas; granddaughters, Amanda, Terrah, Erica and Brandy; grandsons, Lance and Izak; nieces and nephews, Mickey and Lori Thomas, Ricky and Kim Stafford, Tim and Becky Ripple, Angela and Scott Fairchild and Jay Benzi; and 14 great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the family’s home located at 1202 S. Second.

Services will be 10:30 a. m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at First United Methodist Church in Ganado.

Mrs. Florine Stegall

Edna—Funeral services for Mrs. Florine Stegall of San Antonio, a native of Jackson County, will be held at 2 p. m. Friday from the Scruggs Methodist Church with the Rev. Lowe of San Antonio officiating.

Burial will be in the Kerr Cemetery with Cook Funeral Home of Edna in charge of local arrangements. Pallbearers will be Lincoln Edwards, J. C. Williams, Lorrain Jones, Eugene Gipson, and Sammy, Abraham, Isaac and Lonnie Callis.

Mrs. Stegall was born in Jackson County and lived here many years. She died at her home in San Antonio Monday. She was a daughter of the late Void and Rhonda Callis of Edna.

Surviving are her husband, Ford Stegall of San Antonio; a son, Hubert of San Antonio; a sister, Mrs. Pearl Cook of Edna; three brothers, Hershel Callis of Edna and Ernest and Eartell Callis of San Antonio; and one grandchild.

Warren Stolhand

Lolita—Warren Stolhand, 79, of Lolita, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002.

He was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Choteau, Okla., to the late Cornelius A. and Blanche Ann Hooker Stolhand. He was a retired teacher and Presbyterian Minister. She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Vanderbilt.

Survivors: wife, Lucille Stolhand; daughters, Conie Hare of Vanderbilt, June Whitfield-Reed of Humble and Melva Stolhand—Buttkus of Sumner, Wash.; sisters, Flossie Resser of Porter, Okla., and Ruby Staleton, Hazel Taylor, Clara Stolhand and Nellie Elkins, all of California; brother, Woodard Stolhand of California; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents; and brothers, Wayne Stolhand and Glenn Stolhand.

Services will be 2 p. m. today at Community Presbyterian Church in Vanderbilt, the Rev. James Lee officiating.

James G. Stone Sr.

Lolita—James Garvin “Pappy” Stone Sr., 92, of Lolita, died on Wednesday, July 12, 2000. He was born on October 15, 1907 in Navara, Texas to the late Elmer Caruthers and Lilly Flowers Stone. He began his career in the oilfield at age 13 when he began working for Magnolia Oil Company in order to try and survive the depression. He was later transferred to Vanderbilt in 1940 when the West Ranch oilfield was discovered in Vanderbilt, Texas. He retired from Magnolia Oil later known as Mobil Oil in 1951 to start his own workover rig service company, Stone Well Service, Inc. and later an oil and gas production company, J. C. Stone Oil Co.

Pappy was instrumental in starting SPG, Inc. in 1977 along with Douglas Gayle and the late Gene Perkins. He was very active in managing and investing in SPG, Inc. and later Sue-Ann Oil and Gas until his health failed in 1995. They drilled some 300 wells, participated in numerous production properties and invested as non-operators in many other oil and gas properties in the 20 years they worked together.

In 1980, Pappy donated an antique oil pumping rig to the Matagorda County Commissioner, A. W. Hurta. The pumping rig had been placed on an oil well in 1920 in a field known as Clemville. Pappy later purchased this field and donated the antique pumping rig as a reminder of the county’s oil production of the early years of this century. The pump is displayed at Markham’s Community Park in Markham, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Nell Stone; brother, Elmer Marvin “Mike” Stone of Victoria; daughter, June Stone of Victoria; and son, James Garvin “Jerry” Stone, Jr. of Inez. He is survived by his grandchildren Cathy Whitley and husband, Joe of Victoria; James Garvin Stone, III of Lolita; Audra Garvel and husband, Mike of Victoria; Janell Stone-Pritzkau and husband, Robert of Plano; great-grandchild, Heather Whitley of Victoria; and niece, Twyla Stone Kellogg of Victoria.

Services will be held on Friday, July 14, at 10:00 a. m. at Rosewood Funeral Chapels, Victoria with Bro. Robert Willis officiating. Interment will follow at Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita, Texas.

Pallbearers are James G. Stone, III, Joe Whitey, Mike Garvel, Robert Pritzkau, Jay Garner and David Maraggia. Honorary pallbearers are all employees of Stone Well Service, Inc. and J. G. Stone Oil Co.

Nellie Alice Stone

Nellie Alice Stone, 96, passed away June 27, 2004. She was born May 4, 1908, in Caddo, Texas to the late J. L. and Maggie Gandy. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Mrs. Stone was a member of the Vanderbilt Church of Christ.

She is survived by her daughter, June Stone of Victoria; son Jerry Stone and wife Pam of Yoakum, Texas; granddaughter, Cathy Whitley and husband Joe, Audra Garvel and husband Mike all of Victoria, Texas, Janell Pritzkau and husband Rob of Allen, Texas and one grandson, James G. Stone, III of Lolita, Texas. Two great granddaughters Heather Whitley of Texas A & M and Jenna Pritzkau of Allen, Texas and dearest friend Janie Villarreal.

Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by her husband J. G. “Pappy” Stone.

Funeral services for Mrs. Stone will be held June 29, 2004 at 10 AM at the Vanderbilt Church of Christ with Mr. Robert Willis officiating. Interment will follow in the Red Bluff Cemetery near Lolita, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Monday June 28, 2004 at the Rosewood Funeral Chapels.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Stone will be Joe Whitley, Mike Garvel, Rob Pritzkau, James Stone III, Jay Garner and Larry Deyton.

Maggie McKeller Stowe, 97, of Edna, was born November 22, 1903 in Parker County, Texas.

Preceded in death by: Husband of 51 years, Robert Leslie (Pete) Stowe; Parents, William and Emma McKeller; Sisters, Lora Tidwell, Pearl Clack, Emma Pope, Ruby Young; Brothers, Earl McKeller, Clyde McKeller, Fred McKeller.

Survived by: Daughter, Linda Stowe Koop, and husband John, of Edna; Granddaughters, Lesley Koop Thompson, and husband Jim, of Austin, Jinnifer Koop Koger, and husband Phillip, of Austin, Wiede Koop Cutshall, and husband Jon, of San Antonio, Shirley Koop Moyer, and husband Harold, of Rhode Island, Linda E. Koop of Florida; Step Grandsons, Curtis Koop, and wife Sarita, of Sugar Land, Doyle Koop, and wife Lori, of Tyler; Great Grandchildren, Joey and Clarissa Thompson, Jack and Jeff Koop, Kathryn, Clayton, Kristin and Caroline Koop. She is also survived by many Nieces and Nephews.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a past member of Ruth Circle, United Methodist Church and The Sewing Club.

Judith Ann Stroman

Lolita—Judith Ann Stroman went to be with Lord April 1, 2008. She was born Sept. 7, 1947, in Mission.

She leaves behind to mourn for her, miss her, and cherish wonderful memories, the love of her life, Gene Stroman, husband of 42 years. She is survived by her parents, Jimmy and Emma Lou La Forge of New Braunfels; two daughters, Jennifer and husband Donny Schumaker, Jessica and her husband Lorne Frazier, all of Lolita; and son, Keith Stroman of Edna. She has four grandchildren, Bryan and Brandon Schumaker and Bethany and Dakota Frazier. She leaves one sister, Beverly Jean and husband Les Lambert; one nephew, Michael Byars; two uncles, Frank and Dempsey Lance; and countless friends.

Judy and Gene married Judy 17, 1965. They moved to Lolita in 1970. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lolita and was active in Jackson County Extension Homemakers and Lolita Bunco group.

The angels in heaven are rejoicing as our precious Judy has joined their heavenly body for eternity after more than 20 years of valiantly battling Multiple Sclerosis.

Pallbearers will be Lorne Frazier, Donny Schomaker, Bryan Schumaker, Wayne Stroman, Les Lambert, and Ray Crain.

Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p. m. today at First Baptist Church of Lolita Funeral services will be at 10 a. m. at First Baptist Church of Lolita with the Rev. Dennis Phariss. Burial will follow at Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita.

Adelle Hamilton Sutton

Adelle Hamilton Sutton, 82, of Lolita, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011, in Victoria. She was born March 17, 1929, in Lolita, to the late John and Mary Hamilton. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Giroir of Houma, La., Gail (Andy) Wolfskill of Spring, and Mary (and special friend, Michael Wiles) Bush; son, Stephen Ernest (Kathy) Sutton of Victoria; sister, Mabelle Allen of Lolita; brother, Norman (Jolene) Hamilton of Guymon, Okla.; sisters-in-law, Patricia and Rick Lindley of Louise, Linda Sutton of Brazoria, and Madlyn Leissner Sutton of Brazoria; 18 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J. B. Sutton; sons, G. B. (Jerry) and Robert James (Bobby) Sutton; sisters, Theo Allen, Willie Ann Clements, and Maureen Schulze; brothers, Tommy Lee, Roger, and Darvis Hamilton; and son-in-law, David Bush.

Visitation was May 1 at Slavik Funeral Home. Funeral service was at 10:30 a. m. on Monday, May 2 at First Baptist Church in Lolita with Rev. Randall Easter officiating. Pallbearers were James Wolfskill, Keith Bush, Stephen Sutton, John Sutton, John Sutton, Benson Sutton, Gary Paul Biroir, and Hugo Ortiz.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Accolade Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
