Needville—Olga “Olgie” Linda Saldierna, 15, of Needville, died Sunday, June 26, 2005.

She was born Dec. 15, 1989, in Victoria to Rodolfo and Janie Hernandez Saldierna of Needville. She was a student and Catholic.

Survivors: sisters, Sonia Pina, Kristy Zamora and Victoria Vega, all of Houston.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Thursday at Oaklawn Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be at 10 a. m. Friday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna.

Burial will be at Edna Latin American Cemetery. Oaklawn Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2221.

Lydia R. Samora

Edna—Lydia Ramirez Samora, 55, of Edna, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003.

She was born Dec. 25, 1947, in Edna, to Jacinto Ramirez of Edna; and the late Refugia Garza. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Survivors: husband, Paul Samora Jr. of Edna; daughters, Becky Samora, Mary Samora, Lydia Samora and Beatrice Samora, all of Edna, Olga Samora of Dublin and Gloria Samora of Aransas Pass; sons, Paul Samora III of Aransas Pass, Raymond Samora of Houston, Frank Samora of Edna and Johnny Samora of Lake Jackson; sisters, Consuelo Vasquez of Edna and Ophelia Suniga of Pearland; half sisters, Elida Pena of Freeport and Mary Lou Espinosa of Houston; half brothers, Estoria Pena and Lupe Pena, both of Freeport; and 20 grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. tonight at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 10 a. m. Thursday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Msgr. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating.

Santiago Samora

Edna—Santiago Samora, 85, of 605 Main St., died Wednesday in a Ganado hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Samora was born Feb. 13, 1886, and was a restaurant operator in Mexico before retiring and moving to Edna.

A prayer service will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday at the Unified Pentecostal Church with a nephew, the Rev. John Samora, officiating. Burial will be at 10:45 a. m. at the Edna Latin American Cemetery under the direction of Jackson County Funeral Service.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Carmel Samora and a brother, Manuel Samora, both of Edna.

Benito Sanchez

Edna—Benito Sanchez, 72, of Edna died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1993.

He was born Nov. 21, 1920, in Edna to the late Inocencio and Amalia Reyna Sanchez. He was a U. S. Army World War II veteran and was retired from Holiday Construction Co. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Survivors include: daughter, Nelda Garcia of Victoria; sisters, Martina Sanchez of Houston and Rosa Garza of Edna; and one grandchild.

Preceded in death by: wife, Lena Nava Sanchez, on Dec. 6, 1979

Visitation: until 2 p. m. Saturday at Slavik Funeral Home.

Services: 3 p. m Saturday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Rev. Michael O’Shaunessy officiating.

Burial: Edna Latin American Cemetery, Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152.

Pallbearers: Frank Montez, Tony Montez, Johnny Garza, Bennie Garcia, Lupe Garcia and Mark Cuellar.

Services Held for Enocencio Sanchez, Native of County

Funeral services were held Monday morning at the St. Agnes Catholic Church for Enocencio Sanchez, 74, a native of Jackson County. Rev. B. Janacek officiated, and interment was in the Edna Cemetery.

Rosary was said Sunday at 8 p. m. at the Slavik Chapel.

Mr. Sanchez, a farmer, was born in this county on June 21, 1888. He had been in ill health the past five years, and died in Victoria August 18.

He is survived by his widow Amalia Sanchez of Edna, and these sons and daughters, Joe, Benito and Martin Sanchez of Edna, Martina and Sostenez Sanchez of Victoria, and Rosa Garza of Edna; by 20 grandchildren; and by one sister, Juanita Sanchez of Goliad.

Mrs. Guadalupe Sanchez

Edna—Guadalupe Sanchez, 68, of Edna died Wednesday in a Ganado hospital.

A rosary will be recited at 8 p. m Friday at Slavik Chapel in Edna, and funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Hybner officiating.

Burial will be in Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sanchez was born Nov. 29, 1909 at Yorktown and lived most of her life in Jackson county.

Surviving are six daughters, Nora DeLeon and Rosie Chanek of Edna, Mary Louise Rodriguez of Rockport, Caroline Martinez of Alto, La., Elizabeth Rivera of Houston and Janie Vele of Victoria; four sons, Ruben and Sammy of Edna, Gilbert of Victoria and Steve of El Campo; two sisters, Rufina Hernandez of Welch and Mary Dias of Davis, Okla.; three brothers, Julion Sosa of Glenn Flora, Simon Sosa of Houston and Domingo Sosa of Phoenix, Ariz.; 47 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Henry Sanchez

Edna—Henry Sanchez, 55, of Edna, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005.

He was born Sept. 8, 1949, in Ganado, to the late Ralph Sanchez and Louise Figueroa. He was in general construction and was a Catholic.

Survivors: daughters, Melissa Sanchez of Corpus Christi, Cassie D. Sanchez and Judi Sanchez, both of Edna; sons, Henry Sanchez and Jesse Sanchez, both of Edna, and Jeffery Sanchez of Corpus Christi; brother, Jesse Sanchez of Alvin; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6 – 8 p. m. Friday at Oaklawn Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 11 a. m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Edna Latin American Cemetery. Oaklawn Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2221.

Jose Sanchez

Edna—Jose Sanchez, 72, lifelong resident of Edna, died at 12:45 a. m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 1990, in a local hospital.

A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p. m. Thursday at the Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a. m. Friday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating.

Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

He was born April 14, 1918, in Beeville, to the late Ynocencio and Amalia Reyna Sanchez. He was a retired maintenance man for the Leonard Johnson car dealership.

Surviving are five daughters, Debra A. Lopez and Rose Ann Martinez, both of Edna, Diane Rodriguez of Victoria, Julie Quintana of Katy and Lupe Conde of Port Lavaca; three sons, Pat Guerrero Jr. of Houston, Larry and Danny Guerrero, both of Edna; two sisters, Rosa Garza of Edna and Martina Sanchez of Houston; a brother, Benny Sanchez of Edna; and 14 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ruben Garcia Lopez and Larry and Danny Guerrero.

Lena Sanchez

Edna—Funeral services for Lena Sanchez, 57, of Edna will be held at 1 p. m. Thursday at the St. Agnes Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joe Hybner officiating.

Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Arthur, Dan, Johnny, Clem and Joe Nava and Herbie Gonzales.

Mrs. Sanchez was born June 15, 1921 at Vanderbilt, and was a member of the Catholic Church. She died Wednesday in a local hospital.

Surviving are her husband, Benito and a daughter, Inelda, both of Edna; sister, Lupe Alanez of Beeville; and two brothers, Ernest Nava of Edna and Edward Nava of San Antonio.

Louis Sanchez

Edna—Louis Sanchez, 78, of Edna, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2007.

He was born in Victoria to the late Louis and Celia Guillen Sanchez. He was a retired equipment operator for Indland Co.

He is survived by: his wife, Georgia Rosa DeLeon of Edna; seven daughters, Mary Lou Villagas of Port Lavaca, Delia Fabela of Gary, Ind., Dora Ballin of Freeport, Margaret Sanchez of Freeport, Gloria Serna of Edna and Alicia Marie Sanchez of Victoria; five sons, Roger Sanchez of Fayetteville, N. C., Louis Sanchez Jr. of Portage, Ind., Ricardo Sanchez of Victoria, Valo Sanchez of Merrillville, Ind. and Jessie Louis Sanchez of Edna; three sisters, Celia M. Cuellar of Port Lavaca, Maria Deloris Alonzo of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Juanita Garcia of Grover Town, Ind.; two brothers, Arturo Sanchez of Edna and Eusevio Sanchez of Port Lavaca; 39 grandchildren; and 58 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, David Sanchez Sr.

Visitation will be 12 – 6 p. m. today at Slavik Funeral Chapel, with a prayer service at 6 p. m. Funeral services will be 10 a. m. Wednesday at New Harvest Christian Church of Edna, the Rev. John Samora officiating. Burial will be at Edna Latin American Cemetery.

Paul O. Sanchez Jr.

Memorial services for Paul O. Sanchez Jr., 41, of Houston, who died Saturday at a Pasadena hospital following a short illness, were held Sunday at Mexican Baptist Church in Edna.

The Rev. Joe Gonzales of Houston officiated. Burial followed in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under the direction of Jackson County Funeral Service.

He was born Jan. 24, 1946, in Jackson County to Paul and Manuela Ochoa Sanchez Sr. He was a 1965 graduate of Industrial High School and was a self employed diesel mechanic.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Olga Sanchez of Houston; a son, Richard Sanchez of Houston; two sisters, Margaret and Mary Sanchez, both of Houston; six brothers, Gilbert, Lawrence, Narcisco, David, Jesse and Denny Sanchez, all of Houston.

Edna—Funeral services for Cirilo Santellana, 66, of Edna will be held at 2 p. m. Monday at the St. Agnes Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joe Hybner officiating.

Mr. Santellana, a native of Jackson County was a retired construction worker. He died Saturday at a local rest home.

Mrs. Lucille Santellana

Edna—Funeral for Mrs. Lucille Santellana, 55, who died Sunday at her residence at 206 Marvin St., will be at 9 a. m. Tuesday in St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Stanley Petru officiating.

Burial will follow in Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

She was born in Corpus Christi but had lived in Jackson County most of her life.

Mrs. Santellana is survived by her mother, Mrs. Rufina Garza Rodriquez of Corpus Christi; her husband, Roy of the home; two children, Mrs. Florence Benavides, and Benito, both of Edna; four brothers, Ben of Port O’Connor; Louis of Alice; Edward of Corpus Christi and Pete of Edna; three sisters, Refugia of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Alice Garza of Corpus Christi, and Mrs. Gloisa Figerooga of Sugarland, and five grandchildren.

Oscar G. Santellana

Edna—Funeral services for Oscar G. Santellana, 21, of Louise will be held at 10 a. m. Wednesday from the St. Agnes Catholic Church here, with the Rev. Gerard Chernoch of El Campo officiating.

Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Richard and Arnulfo Cano, Candido R. Benavides, Leroy Mireles, Robert Hernandez and Willie Moreno.

Mr. Santellana was killed in a highway accident in Wharton County Monday morning. A native of Ganado, he attended high school at Louise and vocational training at El Campo, where he was employed.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benito Santellana of Louise.

Ray Santellana

Edna—Funeral services for Ray Santellana, 73, of Edna will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joe Hybner officiating.

Mr. Santellana was born Feb. 5, 1904 in Jackson County, and was a retired laborer. He died Thursday at a local rest home.

Surviving are a daughter, Florence Benavides of Edna; a son, Benito Santellana of Angleton; two sisters, Anita de la Rosa and Adela Pena of Houston; three brothers, Cirilo and Manuel of Edna and Joe of Houston; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Paul Richard Schaffer

Paul Richard Schaffer, of Edna, passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014 at the age of 59.  He was born on Sept. 27, 1954  in East St. Louis, Mo., to the late Rockne M. Schaffer and Gloria Schillinger Argo.

Paul was a father, husband, godfather and a good friend. He was very friendly to everybody. He was also a member of the Edna Volunteer Fire Department and was retired from Point Comfort Railroad. After retirement he enjoyed mowing lawns and going to coffee at A.J.’s. He loved helping others and he also donated his organs to help others live. We will miss him dearly.

Paul is survived by his loving wife Nancy Lopez  Shaffer; mother, Gloria Schillinger Argo; daughter, Alecia Sparkman and husband Lynn of Edna; son, Rockne Schaffer of Edna; sister, Roxanne Garza and husband Alan of Carrizo Springs; brother, Donald Schaffer and wife Marie of Edna; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul is preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna. Burial will follow in the Edna Latin American Cemetery with Rev. Michael Petering officiating.

Pallbearers will be Scott Garza,  Edward Shaffer, Richard Shaffer, Brandon Lopez, Emilio Hernandez Jr., and Jared Johndrow.
  

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Edna Volunteer Fire Department, City of Edna, 126 West Main, Edna, Texas 77957.

Elizabeth R. Serna

Edna—Elizabeth R. Serna, 69, of Edna, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001.

She was born Nov. 19, 1931, in Lolita, to the late Emilio G. and Angelita B. Rodriguez. She was a homemaker and a member of Templo Ebenezer Pentecostal Church in Edna.

Survivors: husband, Ramon R. Serna; daughters, Olga S. Hernandez and Hortencia S. Rosalez, both of Edna; sons, Oscar Serna, Humberto Serna, Ramon Serna Jr. and Gerardo Serna, all of Edna; sisters, Rosa R. Figuerova, Maria R. Garcia, Eva R. Cavazos and Eula R. Duron, all of Edna, Fela R. Mainer of Parsons, Tenn., and Corrine R. Arriazola of Victoria; brothers, Adam Rodriguez, Joe Rodriguez and Billy Rodriguez; 22 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents; sisters, Christina R. Ramirez and Frances R. Ballin; brothers, Jesus Rodriguez, Fidel Rodriguez and Domingo Rodriguez.

Visitation was 3 to 9 p. m. Wednesday at Templo Ebenezer Pentecostal Church.

Services will be 3 p. m. today at the church.

Miquela Gonzales Servantes

 Miquela Gonzales Servantes, 74, of Edna passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016. She was born on Sept. 29, 1941 in Edna to Joe Gonzales, Sr. and Frances Altimeta Gonzales. She was one of 11 children blessed to the family.     

Miquela is survived by her two children, Sylvia and George Garza, Sr. and John and Grace Servantes; her grandchildren B.J., Lisa, and Steven Servantes, Crystal Garza and George Garza Jr.; her great-grandchildren Kenzie, Arianna, and Jayden Garza and E. J. Benivamonde; sisters Simona Ramos, Sabrina Flores, Frances Montano, Bessie Delon, Mary Tijerina, Liz Maya, Gloria Gonzales, and Lupe Zarate; and her brothers Joe Gonzales, Jr. and Henry Gonzales.     

She is preceded in death by her parents.   

 A Rosary and funeral mass will be held Monday, July 25, at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Petering officiating, Interment will immediately follow at Edna Latin America Cemetery.       

The pallbearers are B.J., Lisa, and Steven Servantes, George Garza, Jr., Randy Zarate, and Mario Ybarra.

Lillie Mae Shafer

Lillie Mae Shafer, 87, of Lolita went to the Lord surrounded by her family on Aug. 15, 2018. Lillie Mae was born to the late Jim Polosek and Agnes Walton and her stepfather, Paul Gaydos on Nov. 29, 1930 in Floresville, Texas.

Lillie Mae is survived by her husband, R.L. Shafer of 72 years; four children, Linda Valenta, Tyann Fowler, Timothy Shafer, Lamar Shafer; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Angie Smith, Dorthy Fuselier, Frank Gaydos and Pauline Strakos.

A viewing was held on Friday, Aug. 17, from 5-7 p.m. at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home. Visitation was Saturday, August 18  from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Port Lavaca Church of Christ with funeral services at 2:30 p.m. at the church. Burial followed in Greenlawn Gardens.

Pallbearers were Dalton Shafer, Dylan Hase, Daylon, Derrek and Hunter Fowler and Steffin and Noah Shafer. Honorary pallbearers were her great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, brother and brothers-in-law.

Jesus Siller

Edna—Jesus Siller, 91, of Edna, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001.

He was born March 26, 1909, in Saltillo, Mexico, to the late Jose and Maria Siller. He was a retired track crewman at Missouri Pacific Railroad and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving in World War II.

Survivors: wife, Louisa Garcia Siller; daughter, Rachel Sanchez of Edna; stepsons, Joe Garcia Sr. of Edna; stepsons, Joe Garcia Sr. of Edna and Louis Garcia of Austin; five grandchildren; four step-children; 16 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: first wife, Maria G. Siller; parents; brother, Marcellino Siller.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Thursday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Elvira Garcia Solis

Mrs. Elvira Garcia Solis, 48, died Friday morning in a local hospital after a long illness.

Born in Edna, Mrs. Solis had lived in Victoria for the past 16 years.

Rosary will be recited Sunday at 8:30 p. m. at Artero Memorial Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Kelly officiating.

Funeral services will be Monday at 9:45 a. m. at the funeral home and at 10 a. m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. The Rev. Richard Toal will officiate, with burial at Edna Latin American Cemetery.

Survivors are the husband, Marcelino Solis; a daughter, Mrs. Anita Navarro of Victoria; six sons, Johnny, Robert, George and Marcelino Solis Jr., all of Victoria, Tony of Junction City, Kan., and Joe of San Bernardino, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Zambrano and Mrs. Louisa Siller, both of Edna; four brothers, Ben Garcia Sr., John Garcia, Sostenes Garcia and Ricardo De Leon, all of Edna, and 10 grandchildren.

Three Victorians Killed in Collision – Johnny G. Solis

George West—Three Victoria men were killed and six other persons injured in a head-on collision of a sedan and a truck Sunday morning about 17 miles west of here on U. S. Highway 281.

The highway patrol identified the dead as Juan Lopez, the driver of the auto, 33, of 2906 Morgan; Vincente Jesus De La Garza, 33, 1618 S. Willow; and Johnny G. Solis, 26, 3402 N. Cypress.

State Trooper Casey King said Lopez’s car was southbound on U. S. Highway 281 and the truck, a bobtail, was northbound when the vehicle collided in the center of the southbound land.

King reported there were no skid marks at the scene of the wreck, and it was unknown who was driving the truck.

Solis had lived in Victoria 10 years after moving here from Edna. He had been employed by Art Coles Welding Co. for the past four years as a welder. He was born near Beeville Feb. 18, 1952, and was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.

A rosary will be said at 8 p. m. Monday at the Artero Funeral Memorial Funeral Home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 9 a. m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, the Rev. Thomas Spisak officiating. Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sylvia Ramos Solis of Victoria; two daughters, Sylvia Elvira and Manndy Vera Solis, both of Victoria; his father Marcelino Solis Sr.; his step-mother, Mrs. Sophia A. Solis; a sister, Mrs. Anita Navarro of Victoria; five brothers, Marcelino Solis Jr., Tony Solis, Robert Solis, George Solis, all of Victoria, and Joe Solis of San Bernadino, Calif.

Corpus Christi—Visitation for Francisca Garcia Sosa, 75, of Corpus Christi, who died Thursday, will begin today at Slavik Funeral Chapel.

Joe Soto

Blessing—Joe Soto, 82, of Blessing and formerly of Edna, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999.

He was born March 27, 1917, in Thomaston, to the late Alcario and Louisa Holquin Soto. He was a retired laborer and was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Survivors: wife, Marsela Hernandez Soto; daughter, Mary Soto and Rachel Ramirez, both of Lake Wells, Fla., Ignacia Soto of Toledo, Ohio, Elida Guevara of Edna and Gloria Arias and  Erica Soto, both of Blessing; sons, Joe Soto Jr., Egino Soto, Jessie Soto, Ray Soto, Mario Soto and James Soto, all of Edna, Felipe Soto of Bay City and Lupe Soto of Bloomington; sister, Aurora Guevara of Victoria; brother, Fred Soto of East Bernard; 44 grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by: children, Santos Soto and Juanita Soto; sisters, Louisa Sabedra and Irene Gonzalez; and brother, Gilbert Soto.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. today at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 2 p. m. Friday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna, the Rev. Michel O’Shaughnessy officiating.

Marsela H. Soto

BLESSING - Marsela H. Soto, 79, of Blessing, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005.

She was born Jan. 16, 1926, in Morales, to the late Ignacio and Manuela Bentancur Hernandez. She was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Survivors: daughters, Erica Martinez, and Gloria Arias, both of Blessing, Maria Soto and Raquel Ramirez, both of Lakewales, Fla., Nancy Soto of Ohio, and Elida Guevara of Edna; sons, Egino Soto, Jessie Soto, Ray Soto, Mario Soto, and James Soto, all of Edna, Felipe Soto of Bay City, and Lupe Soto of Bloomington; sister, Mary Verver of Edna; brothers, Fernado Gonzales of Lolita, Modesto Hernandez of Edna, and Antonio Hernandez of Goliad; 45 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.           
Preceded in death by: husband, Jose Soto; daughter, Juanita Soto; sons, Jose Soto and Santos Soto; sister, Lupe Hernandez; and brothers, Joe Hernandez, Facundo Hernandez, and Domingo Gonzales.

Lucille Spencer

Lucille Frieda Martha Hackbarth Spencer, 99, of Ganado passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018. She was born on Monday, Dec. 23, 1918 in Lolita, to Otto E. Hackbarth and Ida Rabe Hackbarth.

Lucille is survived by her children Sheila Supak, Harley K Spencer, Jr. and Rodney Spencer; her five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harley K. Spencer, Sr., her son Stanley Spencer and her brother Herbert Hackbarth. R There was a funeral service on Tuesday, July 24, at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church with Rev. Chris Heinold officiating.

Services were entrusted to Russell Todish of Ganado Funeral Home, 361-771-2120.

Manuela Suarez

Pasadena—Manuela Ochoa Suarez, 66, of Pasadena, formerly of Edna, died Sunday at a private residence in League City following a lengthy illness.

A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p. m. Tuesday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel in Edna.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Wednesday at Mission Baptist Church of Edna with the Rev. Willie Rosales, pastor of Primera Bautista of Pasadena, officiating.

Burial will be in Edna Latin American Cemetery.

Mrs. Suarez was born April 17, 1922, in Beeville. She was a homemaker and member of Primera Bautista Church of Pasadena.

She married Nicholas Suarez in Rosenberg July 1973.

Surviving in addition to her husband of Pasadena, are two daughters, Margret Aleman of San Antonio and Mary Mora of League City; six sons, Gilbert, Narcisco, Lawrence, David, Jesse and Dan Sanchez, all of Pasadena; two half sisters; three brothers, Matias and Secundino Ochoa, both of Louise and Valdo Ochoa of Lubbock; 25 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gilbert, Narciso, Lawrence, David, Jesse and Dan Sanchez.

Juanita A. Suniga

Edna—Juanita A. Suniga, 73, of Edna died Saturday in Brazoria following a short illness.

She was born Sept. 24, 1912, in Seguin to the late Jacinto and Lucinda Benavidez Arroyos.

A long-time resident of Edna, she moved to Houston 2 ½ years ago.

A rosary will be said at 7 p. m. Sunday at Slavik Funeral Home of Edna.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p. m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael O’Shaugnessy officiating.

Burial will follow in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Surviving are four daughters, Celia Cabazos of Grand Falls, Olivia Liserio of Bloomington, Rosa Arismendez of Houston and Eloise Arrambide of Albuquerque, N. M.; six sons, Sabos Suniga of Pearland, Edward Suniga of Edna, Manuel Suniga, Roger Suniga of Victoria, Joe Suniga of Houston and Ruben Suniga of Brazoria; a sister, Julia Espinosa of Edna;  two brothers, J. B. Arroyos and Edward Arroyos, both of Rockport; 34 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Suniga was preceded in death by her husband, Seberiano Suniga, who died in February 1978.

Pallbearers will be George Suniga, Rene Arismendez, Louis Arismendez, Bobby Liscerio, Vincent Suniga and Walter Suniga.

Seberiano Suniga

Edna—Funeral services for Seberiano Suniga, 71, of Edna will be held at 10 a. m. Monday at the St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Hybner officiating.

A rosary will be held at 5 p. m. Sunday at Slavik Chapel.

Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Mr. Suniga was born Dec. 24, 1906 at McFadden and was a retired farmer and Edna school custodian. He had lived in this county 50 years, and died Friday in a local hospital.

Surviving are his wife, Juanita of Edna; four daughters, Olivia Liserio of Bloomington, Rosa Arismendez of Houston, Celia Cavasos of Grand Falls and Elosa Arnambibe of Manassas, Va.; six sons, Sam of Pearland, Roger of Victoria, Ruben, Jose and Manuel of Houston, and Edwardo of Edna; a sister, Urbana Suniga of Matamoros, Mex.; and 28 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren
