John Andrew Magninat
April 19, 1947 – May 15, 2019

John Andrew Magninat, age 72, went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2019 in Covington, La. He was born on April 19, 1947. He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, a loving father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy “Shug” Magninat, and parents, Andrew and Alma Magninat.     He is survived by his children, Andrew Magninat, Vikki Turner, Julianne Magninat, John Magninat and Melanie Magninat; step-children, Stephen Ferrari, Kathryn Rutledge and husband Shawn; sisters, Vicki Mayhugh and Paula Comeaux; special friend, Lawlene Kaplan; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other caring relatives.

The visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday, May 27 at Sunset Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 9 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with Military Honors.

A celebration of life with a catered meal will be held on Saturday, June 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Edna, fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Deborah "Debbie" Gay Mathis

Deborah "Debbie" Gay Mathis passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at her sister's home in Victoria, TX on February 5, 2019.  Debbie was born on June 9, 1952 in El Campo, TX to Albert and Doris Wenglar of El Campo, TX.  She grew up in El Campo, where she graduated high school in 1970,

Debbie married Wayne Maxwell after she graduated from high school, giving birth to her children, Clint, Lance, and Amy.

She then remarried Louis "Eddie" Mathis in 1982 and moved to Huntsville, TX where she lived for more than 35 years and where Brad: her youngest son was born.  Ever the hard worker, she was employed full-time while attending college at Sam Houston State University, where she graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Business Administration in 1992.  She then worked for the prison system at Wyndham School District for more than 25 years before retiring from TDC in October of 2015.

Debbie enjoyed fishing, traveling, and cooking homemade meals for family and friends. She delighted in taking care of others and often made cakes to share with her co-workers. She also loved quilting, a hobby introduced to her by her best friend Rhonda Flanagin. Over the years, Debbie created many beautiful quilts to keep her family warm. Ever the traveler, Debbie was also known for going on new adventures at the drop of a hat.

Debbie also loved her grandkids with all her heart. She would often take them on special trips, just her and the kids, to spend quality time together.

She is survived by her son Clint Maxwell and daughter-in-law Nancy Maxwell of the Woodlands, TX son Lance Maxwell and daughter-in-law Jill Maxwell of East Bernard, TX daughter Amy Peterson and son-in-law Scott Peterson of Richmond, TX, son Brad Mathis and daughter-in-law Velissa Chapa of Pflugerville, TX, her sister Penny Klatt and brother-in-law Bobby Klatt of Victoria, TX, brother Doug Wenglar and sister-in-law Glenell Wenglar of El Campo, TX and her sister Rebecca "Bejo" Gadeke and brother-in-law Paul Gadeke of El Campo, TX. Debbie is also survived by her five grandchildren: Sydney Maxwell, Jackson Maxwell, Lauren Todish, Benjamin Peterson, and Elizabeth Maxwell, as well as eight step-grandchildren; Nicole, Adam, Grace, Emma, Hannah, Micah, Parker, and Abigail Peterson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Doris Wenglar of El Campo, TX and her husband Louis Edward Mathis of Huntsville, TX

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at First Baptist Church in El Campo, TX officiated by Pastor Rick DuBroc. Services will begin at 11:am CST, with lunch following in the church Fellowship Hall. Dan Ervin Meador

Dan Ervin Meador went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 31, 2019. Dan was born on January 2, 1955 to the late Ervin Wright “EW” Meador Jr. and Eleanor Spree Meador.     

Dan loved to sing and laugh, play pool and poker, landscape, fish, and most of all, enjoy time with his friends and family. In his early years, he was known for coaching Little League and he impacted many young lives. He will be dearly missed.     

He was proceeded in death by his parents, grandparents Elmer Spree, Bessie Stolp Spree, Ervin Wright Meador, and Stella Mae Jetton Meador, as well as his brother Garland Page Meador.     

He is survived by his brothers Van Meador, Charles Williams, and Robert Williams as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews.     

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 3 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Edna. Visitation will precede the service.

Mary F. Meador

Mary F. Meador, 84, of Victoria, formerly of Jackson County, died in a local nursing home Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1991, following a lengthy illness.

She was born Aug. 27, 1907, in Jackson County to the late William F. and July Ann Miller Felts. She was a homemaker and a Presbyterian and had resided in Victoria for the past 40 years.

Survivors: daughter, Elaine Benson of Dickinson; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by parents; husband, Fred A. Meador in 1981; and a daughter, Joyce M. Bake in 1988.

Graveside services 10 a. m. Saturday in Memory Gardens of Edna, the Rev. Harry Johnson officiating.

Luis F. Mendiola

Luis F. Mendiola, of Edna, Texas, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at the age of 86. He was born in Benavides, Texas on March 2, 1933, to the late Natividad Mendiola, and Felipa Mendiola.

Luis was a devout Christian and spent his life spreading the word of God. He pastored Baptist Missions in, Hondo, Texas (1967-1970), Sinton, Texas (1970-1972), Richmond, Texas (1972-1975), Pleasanton, Texas (1975-1980), Wichita, Kansas (1980-1985), and Eagle Lake, Texas (1985-1987). Luis’ passion then brought him to Edna where he retired from Mission Bautista in December of 2008.

Luis is survived by his loving wife Viola of 50 years; children, Lydia Contreras and her husband Greg Contreras, Elizabeth Marie Guizar, and John Mark Mendiola; grandchildren, Johnathan Contreras, Megan Contreras, and Andrea Contreras; great-grandchildren, Andre Brady, Charli Contreras, Dalen Starks, O’Quinn Callis, and Tyler Hall.

In addition to his parents, Luis is preceded in death by his sisters, Gloria Alaniz, Lencha Franco, and Janie Cooper.

Visitation was held on Monday, April 1, from 8 to 9 a.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel, with funeral service at 9 a.m., burial followed in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Edna, with Rev. Roger Rodriguez, from Segunda Iglesia Bautista in Rosenberg and Rev. Robert Krause from First Baptist Church, Edna, officiating.

Pallbearers were Andre Brady, J.D. Contreras, Pablo Santillan Sr., Pablo Santillan Jr., John Mendiola, and Quinn Challis; honorary pallbearers were Greg Contreras and Reynaldo Leal.

Jean Menefee

EDNA - Jean Menefee of Edna concluded her life's journey Monday, July 20, 2015, at the age of 90. She was born January 15, 1925, in Donna, Texas, to Ruby Townsend and raised by her grandparents, Eliza and Light Townsend.

Jean took great pleasure in nurturing the flowers of her life-her husband, children and their growing families, nieces, and nephews; her beautiful yard and loving home.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Garrett Menefee; daughters, Linda Reaves and her husband Bill of Houston, Blanche Charkalis and her husband George of Victoria, Molly Myers of Austin, Sally Gaskin and her husband Steve of Dallas, and Judy Lundy and her husband Peyton of Edna; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2015, from 5 - 7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be held at a later date.

Thelma Lea Mercer

Thelma Lea Mercer, 96, was born on October 27, 1922 in Jackson County to the late Terry Adam Shows and Adell Gates Shows. She went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 29, 2019.

Thelma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend who will be missed dearly.

Thelma is survived by her sons, W. H. Mercer, Jr., (Yvonne), Sherrel Mercer (Cecelia), and John Mercer (Anne), all of Edna; Marvin Mercer (Glenda) of Leander; and Pat Mercer (Jacque) of Inez. She is survived by grandchildren Michael Mercer (Brooke), Nicole Mercer, Betsy Thompson (Jason), Laura Paulsel (Jason), Dale Mercer (Leea), Joanna Smith (Matt), Kimberly Mercer, Caren Akins (Matthew), Scott Mercer, LynAnne Walden (Bill), Sarah Bradley (Cody), and Patrick Mercer (Amber). She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband W.H. Mercer, Sr., by two sisters Bernice Terry and Erma Garrett, two brothers A. T. Shows and J. C. Shows, and two grandchildren, Richard Mercer and Rosalyn Kresta.

Mary Rita Koett Meyer

Our loving and dear sweet mother has gone to meet with her heavenly Father on June 15, 2012. She was surrounded by her four children who will miss her dearly.

Mary Rita Koett Meyer was born November 2, 1916, in Burlington, Iowa, to Henry A. Koett and Caroline Lohman Koett.

Rita was three years old when her mother passed away after contracting tuberculosis while tending the sick in Burlington. Her father passed away when Rita was 16 years old. Rita and her brother, Eddie, were raised by their aunts, Mary Elizabeth (Mamie) Koett and Agnes Rose (Aggie) Koett in San Antonio, Texas.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, aunts, husband, A.C. (Tony) Meyer, who was the love of her life, and brother, H. L.(Eddie) Koett.

She is survived by a son, David H. Meyer (Donna) of Terrytown, LA; daughters, Toni Wyer (J.W.) of Edna, Carolyn Costanza of Kenner, LA, Peggy Larsen (Carl) of Bandera, Tx; also grandsons, Johnny Reckaway, Matt Costanza, Vincent Costanza, Jr., Brian Meyer, Kurt Meyer; granddaughters, Melissa Ranna, Michelle Fraley, Kristy Wagner, Jeanette Bunch, Claire Adams, Joan Schaff; 16 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Rita was employed by The Texas Department of Human Services, Children's Protective Services in Victoria, until retirement in 1984. She continued to work for the Victoria Food Bank until 1990 when she began traveling and touring 49 states having missed only one state, Alaska. Her travel days ended when she broke her hip while touring Hawaii in 2000.

Her greatest joy in life was her family.

Private graveside services will be held at Memory Gardens of Edna.

Grace Alice Middleton
April 05, 1933 - June 06, 2014

Grace Alice Brigham Middleton, 81, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014; she has transitioned to perfect peace. She was born April 5, 1933 in Goliad, Texas to the late Clarence Breckenridge Brigham and Helen Frances Brigham. She graduated from Goliad High School and went on to Southwest State Teachers College, now known as Texas State University. She earned a degree in music and taught music and private piano lessons. She was married to the love of her life, Douglas Frank Middleton, for 56 years, until his death in 2013. She traveled around the world with her family; living in Connecticut, Texas, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. She mastered the lost art of tatting; she also enjoyed crocheting. Her family and friends were the recipients of these beautiful works of art. 

She is survived by her daughters, Jane and husband Jearl Holland of San Angelo, and Grace and husband George Heinrich of Austin; grandchildren, Jearlyn and husband Jeff Allen, Roy Holland and Hadley Holland; and 3 great grandchildren. 

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 3:00 pm at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna, Texas. 
Mother will be sadly missed and joyfully remembered.

Annie Louise Milby

Edna—Annie Louise Milby, 91, of Edna, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001.

She was born June 27, 1910, in Edna, to the late Michael Hunt and Sophie Rebecca Wilkerson Milby. She was the retired Jackson County tax assessor-collector and a member of Morales Baptist Church.

Survivors: brothers, Woodrow Milby and Mike Milby, both of Edna.

Preceded in death by: parents; sister, Georgie E. Lowery; and brother, Henry “Bubba” Milby.

Services will be 10 a. m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Edna, with Jo Kathryn Quinn and the Revs. Sue Huntsman and David Hagan officiating.

Burial will be at Culpepper-Wilkerson Cemetery, Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2152.

Henry F. Milby

Edna—Henry Franklin “Bubba” Milby, 80, of Edna, died at his residence Sunday will, February 16, 1992, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Milby was born Jan. 3, 1912, in Edna to the late Michael Hunt and Sophie Rebecca Wilkerson Milby. He was a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University of Abilene, a self-employed rancher and a member of the Morales Baptist Church of Morales.

Survivors: son, James F Milby of Houston; sister, Louise Milby of Edna; brothers, Woodrow Milby of Edna and Mike Milby of Electra; and three grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Georgie Lowery on Aug. 1 1982.

Services 2 p. m. Wednesday at Morales Baptist Church, the Rev. Joe Wes Rubac officiating.

Burial in Wilkerson Cemetery. Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152.

Mrs. M. H. Milby Died Tuesday Night – Sophia Wilkerson Milby

Mrs. Sophia Milby, widow of the late Mr. M. H. Milby, passed away at the Mauritz-Memorial-Jackson County Hospital at Ganado Tuesday night following a stroke suffered the latter part of last week at her home in the south Morales section.

The funeral service was held this afternoon at the Edna Baptist Church and was conducted by her pastor, Rev. Thos. Felts.

The remains were laid to rest in the Wilkerson Cemetery near Morales where her parents and many other relatives have their resting place.

Mrs. Milby was born Sophia Wilkerson, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Wilkerson, pioneer Jackson County residents. Her birthplace was at the Wilkerson place just south of Morales, on the tract of land where she spent her last days. The date of her birth was September 19, 1883. In July, 1909, she was united in marriage to Mr. Michael H. Milby, also a member of a pioneer Jackson County family of the Morales section.

To this union were born 5 children, three boys and two daughters. They are Messrs. Henry, Woodrow and Michael Milby of Edna, and Miss Louise Milby of Edna and Mrs. Georgia Lowery of Tomball.

Early in life Mrs. Milby joined the Baptist Church and through the intervening years she took a keen interest in church work. She possessed a retiring disposition, and her life was largely centered around the home, yet she was loved and respected by neighbors and friends because of her kindly and neighborly disposition.

In addition to her children she is survived by one sister, Mrs. T. J. Howell of Houston, and one brother, Mr. Archie Wilkerson of Morales.

The Herald joins the many other friends of the family in extending sympathy in their hour of sorrow.

Dana Miller

Dana Colleen Patton Miller, of Edna, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the age of 54. She was born in Houston on July 10, 1956, to Billy Frank Patton of Houston and the late Patricia Stubee Patton.

Dana's family, friends, and all that knew her will miss her personality, sarcasm, sense of humor, contagious laugh, and fun loving spirit. She loved spending time with her grandkids. She like to dance and party with her family and she was the life of the party. She always put everyone before herself. Even while in the hospital, friends would go to see her and she would say "Doesn't anyone have a life?!" She was such a great wife and mother, and granny. She will be greatly missed.

Dana is survived by her father; husband Billy Don Miller of Edna; daughters, Crystal Miller and fiancé Heath Hermes of Point Comfort, Jennifer Miller and fiancé Trent Orosco of Victoria, and Kelli Miller of Edna; step-daughters, Heidi Derosa of Georgia; and sisters Karla Welch of Gonzales, Tracy Kelly of Raleigh, N. C., and Sondra Byers of Kingwood. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lainee, Macenzie, and Lincoln; and step-grandchildren Gabriella and Brooks.

Dana is preceded in death by her mother.

Visitation was Saturday, May 21 from 1-2 p. m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p. m., at Oaklawn Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dana Colleen Miller Fund at Wells Fargo Bank.

Terry Lee Miller Sr.

EDNA - Terry Lee Miller Sr., 87, of Edna, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004.
He was born Sept. 10, 1916, in Lavaca County, to the late Rufus and Grace Reid Miller. He was a retired tool pusher.

Survivors: daughters, Gracie Drexler of Edna and Johnnie Sherlock of Colinga, Calif.; sons, Terry Lee Miller of Edna, Charles A. Miller, Robert H. Miller and Donald Miller, all of El Maton, and Charles Pat Miller of England; sisters, Margie Crabb of Morales and Addie Lawrence of Edna; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: wife, Otis Mae Spears; sister, Selma Munoz; and brothers, Preston Miller, Gene Miller and Rip Miller.

A wake service will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Edna, the Rev. Sue Huntsman officiating.

Zelma Miller

Edna—Mrs. Zelma Miller, 82, of Edna, died Wednesday morning in a Victoria nursing home.

She was born May 17, 1905, in Edna, to the late Isaac and Ludie Hopes Barnes. Her husband, Henry Miller, died April 15, 1972.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at Scruggs Chapel United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in Kerr Cemetery under the direction of Cook-Butler Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Albert and Owen Hopes Jr., Ernon and I. V. Ingram, Jerry Randle and Lincoln Owen Gipson.

Named as honorary pallbearers are the Rev. George Allen, Loyal Stafford, Eugene and Bishop Gibson, James D. Harris and Frederick Patterson.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Edith Randle of Edna; a son, Leo Haynes, and a sister, Mrs. Angeline Moore, both of Houston; 4 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

Juan R. "Johnny" Mireles 

Johnny was born on Saturday, June 24, 1950 in Yoakum, Lavaca County, Texas to Luis Mireles and Mary Rosales Mireles. He went to be with his Lord and his beloved wife Sally at the age of 69 on Tuesday, July 23, 2019.

Johnny and Sally were married on June 6, 1969 and together they raised their daughter Yolanda.

Johnny is survived by his daughter; Yolanda Mireles, grandson Cristian Che’ Jasso, sisters: Angel Garcia, Erlinda Mireles, Alice Gonzales, and Virginia Leal, brothers; Leroy Mireles, Daniel Mireles and Luis Mireles, Jr.

There was a visitation on Friday, July 26, 2019 from 5:pm to 7:pm at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel. There was a Graveside Service on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 10:00 am at Assumption Catholic Cemetery with Deacon Red Hensley officiating.

Norma Mitchell

Edna—Funeral services for Norma Mitchell, 59, of Edna, who died Friday in a Victoria nursing home, will be held at 1 p. m. Thursday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Edna.

The Rev. Gary L. Roberts will officiate. Burial will follow in Kerr Cemetery in Edna under the direction of Cook-Butler Funeral Home.

She was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Jackson County. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Mitchell Sr., in 1956.

Surviving are a daughter, Darlean Bridges of Southfield, Mich.; a son, William Mitchell Jr. of Edna; two sisters, Alma Butler of Edna and Wilma Griffin of Texas City; four brothers, Adolph Jackson of Edna, Lealon Callis of Edna and Fred and Griffin Callis, both of California; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be J. B. Butler, Charles Bryant, Freddy Edwards, Wayne Callis, Lincoln Edwards and Thomas Parson.

Emil Mitchon, Sr.
October 17, 1923 – March 28, 2019

February 19, 1954 - February 24, 2014

Alfred Ray Molina Sr., of Edna, passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his side on Monday, February 24, 2014 at the age of 60. He was born February 19, 1954, in Edna, Texas, to the late Antonio and Cecilia Garcia Molina. 

Alfred worked as a Diesel Mechanic for Alamo Concrete for 41 years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be missed dearly. 

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Vicky Molina of Victoria; children, Katrina Roberts of California, Angela Yun of Austin, Venita Avila of Inez, Alfred Ray Molina Jr. of Victoria; step children, Patricia Pridgen of Midland, Angela Emmott of College Station, Catharine Emmott of Victoria, Yolanda Salinas of Victoria and Manuel Rodriquez of Conroe; sisters, Lydia Martinez, Grace Green, Angie Hernandez, Sheila Molina, DeDe Hinjosa all of Edna, Rosemary Molina and Toni Garza of Victoria; brothers, Antonio Molina of Wisconsin and Daniel Molina of Ganado; fourteen grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be Friday, February 28, 2014, at 10:30 am in the St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna. Reverend Michael Petering will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna. 

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Molina, John Schneider, Manuel Rodriguez, Zech Pridgen, Alvin Yun, LT. Joseph Roberts, Fernandez Cruz and Frank Maciel Torres.

Hubert "H. E." Moody
August 20, 1915 - April 27, 2014

H. E. Moody, of Edna, Texas, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the age of 98. He was born in Allen, OK, on August 20, 1915, to Byron Reagan Moody and Maggie Lou Rodgers Moody. 

Hubert attended public schools in Stroud, Ok. He was a Navy Seabee during World War II and was employed by Magnolia Petroleum Company, now ExxonMobil, for 43 years, retiring in 1980. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. He will be truly missed. He married Jessie Mae Hensley on April 30, 1940. He is survived by his wife of 74 years and their three children; Martha Sue Davis (Paul) of Edna, Janice Louise Sijansky (Danny) of Katy and Charles Eugene Moody (Vicki) of Mansfield; grandchildren, Kevin Sijansky, Sarah Sijansky, Ryan Moody and Kyle Moody; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Leighton, Ella Kate and Caroline Sijansky; brother, Paul Moody; sister, Virginia Piepke. He is preceded in death by his parents, and 11 brothers and sisters: Arthur (Arch) Moody, Bueford Moody, Corene Warren, Doy Moody, Edgar Moody, Felix Moody, Gladys McLendon, Jowel (Jake) Moody, Lorene Kempf, Newell (Chuck) Moody, and Otha Reynolds. 

Visitation will be Oaklawn Funeral Home from 5-7 pm on Thursday, May 1, 2014. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, May 2, 2014, at the Edna Presbyterian Church, Edna, Tx. Reverend Dr. Terry Bozarth will be officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna. Angeline Moore

Edna—Angeline Moore, 69, of Houston, formerly of Edna, died Friday, Feb. 8, 1991 at her residence after a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday at the Scruggs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Howard Mims officiating.

Burial will be in Kerr Cemetery under the direction of Cook-Butler Funeral Home.

She was born April 12, 1921, to the late Robert and Ludie Griffin Robinson. She was a beautician and a member of St. Mary’s United Methodist Church in Houston.

Surviving are her son, Ronnie R. Moore of Houston.

Pallbearers will be I. V. and Ernon Ingram Jr., Barry and Charles Haynes, Briscoe Jackson and Lincoln Owen Gipson.

Mary Lea Mueller

Mary Lea Young Mueller, 72, wife of the late William Mueller, passed away Friday, May 13, 2011. She was born in Edna and graduated from Edna High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted James and Nora Brock Young, and her first husband, Chester McHatton.

She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Vines; stepchildren, Rosemarie Reid and and Eric Mueller; and a sister, Minnie Thedford.

Visitation was from 5 - 7 p. m. Monday, May 16 at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.

Funeral services were Tuesday, May 17 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Schroeder, the Rev. Barbara Beale officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Patty Wilson Muncrief

On Jan. 11, 2010, Patty Wilson Muncrief of Edna died at Southbrook Manor Nursing Home. She was born April 26, 1934, to the late Bus (C.C.) and Leila Wilson. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Slavik Funeral Home and funeral services at 10 a.m., Thursday, at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hardy Sprague officiating.

She is survived by her children, Kathy (Troyce) Emerson of Mont Belvieu, Kay (Hollis) Hankins of Baytown, Vicki (Kenneth) Ballinger of Edna, Tina (James) Robertson of Corpus Christi, and Jack (Brenda) Page Jr. of Smithville; stepchildren, Bobby (Terri) Muncrief of Edna, Skipper (Ev) Muncrief of Edna, and Shirley Woodard of Houston; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, David and Jimmy Wilson; husband, Jack Page, Bob Muncrief and Terry Shrader; stepson, Johnny Muncrief; and step-grandson, Les Woodard.

Although Patty lived most of her life in Edna, she did live in Sargent for a while where she spent her time living by the water and fishing. Patty loved everyone, never meeting a stranger. She will be missed by all, but we know she is in a better place with our heavenly Father and will suffer no more pain.

Dora Marie Dunham Munro 87, of Killeen, formerly of Yoakum. Born April 25, 1925 in Edna, to the late Hobart and Etta Marie Storms Dunham. Dora has been living in Killeen under the care of her step-daughter Sherry Perez. Survived by a brother, Lynn and wife Annalois Dunham, loving family and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will Tuesday Sept. 25, 2012 from 5-7 pm, at the Slavik Funeral Home, 209 N Allen St. in Edna. Services will Wed. Caroline Muschalek

Caroline Muschalek, 85, of Edna, went to be with the Lord on December 10, 2019. She was born on September 3, 1934, in Victoria, Texas, to the late Leroy Beyer and Ella Massey Beyer.     

Caroline was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.     

Caroline is survived by her daughters, Tammy Zajicek, and Tracey Myska (Raymond); her son, Jeff Muschalek (Janice); grandchildren, Jordyn, and Abbey Myska, Jayce Payne (Amanda), Derrick Muschalek (Christina), Kyle Muschalek, Ashlee Coots (Marshall), Dustin Muncrief (Taryn), and Candace Floyd; great-grandchildren, Karsyn Damborsky, Kaylin and Karoline Floyd, Case, Kinslee and Khloe Coots, Dawsyn and Emrie Muncrief, Rheily, Tyler, and Jaxon Payne, Peyton, Bryce, and Skylar Muschalek; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.     

She is preceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Dennis Muschalek; her daughter, Donna Payne; her son, Stanley Muschalek; sisters, Faylee Sembera, Rosemary Rippimonti, and Sammie Milberger; and son-in-law, Charles Zajicek.     Visitation will be held on Friday, December 13, at 9 a. m, with a rosary to follow at 10:00 a. m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna. Memorial Service will begin at 10:30 a. m., on Friday, Dec. 13, also in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna with the Rev. Michael Petering officiating.

EDNA - Dennis John Muschalek, 82 of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.

Dennis was born on April 8, 1932 to the late John and Victoria Jendrzey Muschalek in Edna, Texas. Dennis retired as the owner of Dennis Muschalek Construction, Inc. and served in the US Army during the Korean War.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Caroline Beyer; their son Jeff Muschalek and wife Janice of Edna; their daughters; Tammy Zajicek and husband Charles of Edna, and Tracey Myska and husband Raymond of Needville; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Donna Kay Payne, one son Stanley Ray Muschalek.

Three sisters; Dorothy Susil, Elizabeth Boyd and Anne Stowe, three brothers; Frank, Louis and Paul Muschalek.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Derrick and Kyle Muschalek, Dustin Muncrief, Jayce Payne, Eric Floyd and Marshall Coots.

Interment will be in the Memory Gardens Edna Cemetery

Ernest Wayne Myers

EDNA - E. Wayne Myers, of Edna, went to be with the Lord with his loving family by his side on Friday, January 6, 2017. He was born on October 27, 1925 in Wellington, Texas to the late Earnest Benett Myers and Dorothy Monroe Myers.

Wayne was raised in Vinson, Oklahoma. Wayne enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942 and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1950. He and his wife, Martha Gene, moved to Edna in 1950 where they became active members of the community. He was Jackson County Clerk from 1952-1969, worked with Steck-Warlick Co. from 1969-1973 and the owner of Wayne Myers Co. from 1973 to present.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 9, 2017, in the First United Methodist Church in Edna. Reverend Adam Knapp will be officiating.
