Abraham Callis

Edna—Funeral services for Abraham Callis, 61, of Edna, will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at Scruggs United Methodist Church in Edna with the Rev. Billy Young officiating.

Burial will follow in the Kerr Cemetery in Edna under the direction of Cook-Butler Funeral Home.

Mr. Callis died Wednesday at a Galveston hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born Feb. 16, 1924, he was a life-long resident of Edna. He was a retired construction worker and was a member of the United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Annie Watson Callis Sr.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Callis of Edna; three daughters, Glenda Lawson, Tanja Callis, both of Edna; and Rita Ware of Victoria; a step-daughter, LaWanda McKinney of Miami, Fla; three sons, Creston Callis of Killeen Abrel Callis and Warren Callis, both of Edna; a step-son, Vernon Jones of Houston; a sister, Buelah Callis of Edna; three brothers, Isaac Callis, Lonnie Callis Jr. and Sammie Callis, all of Edna; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dwight Callis, L. C. Callis, Wayne Callis, Twayne Lazard, Calvin Hinderman and Ronald Thornton.

Mrs. Annie Callis

Edna—Mrs. Annie Callis, 82, life-long resident of Jackson County, died Tuesday in an El Campo hospital after an illness of three months.

She was born Feb. 28, 1884.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m Thursday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, with the Rev. D. W. Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Kerr Cemetery under direction of Cook Funeral Home.

Surviving are a daughter, Miss Beulah Callis of Edna; five sons, Sammy, Lonnie and Isaac, all of Edna, Richard of Beeville and Abraham of Refugio; one sister, Mrs. Celesta Haynes of Houston; two brothers, Sammy Watson of San Antonio, and Albert Watson of Waco; 20 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Alonzo Sodia, Matthew Sodia Sr., Hershel Callis, Ernest Callis, Eartell Callis and Harold Watson.

Beulah Callis

Edna—Beulah Callis, 86, of Edna, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003.

She was born Jan. 27, 1916, in Edna, to the late Lon Callis and Annie Watson. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Scruggs United Methodist Church.

Survivors: 10 nieces; and 10 nephews.

Visitation will be 1 – 9 p. m. tonight at Cook-Butler Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 1 p. m. Saturday at Scruggs United Methodist church, the Rev. Martin Williams officiating.

Josie Callis

Edna—Josie Callis, 61, of Edna, died Monday, June 25, 2001.

She was born Jan. 25, 1940, in Edna, to the late Elmo and Mattie Ross Robinson. She was a homemaker.

Survivors: daughter, Debra Callis of Edna and Theresa Callis of Houston; sons, Ronald Callis of Edna and Horace Callis of Victoria; sisters, Brenda Robinson of Edna and Ruby Ashley of Victoria; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, O. B. Callis; son, Tracy Callis; parents; sisters, Lorraine Robinson, Bertha Grant, Elvia Bates, Alice Price, Mary Thompson and Julie Robinson; brothers, Dan Robinson, Carther Robinson and Mayon Robinson.

Kwandre’ D. Callis

Edna—Kwandre’ Da’Shawn Callis, 11, of Houston, formerly of Edna, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008 in Houston. He was born in Houston.

He is survived by his mother, Khortni Ellis of Edna; and sisters, Khoriah Hudson and Kam’Renea Callis, both of Houston.

A graveside service will be held at 4 p. m. today at Kerr Cemetery in Edna.

Lealon Callis

EDNA - Lealon Callis, 80, a resident of Edna, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2013. He was born on May 29, 1933 to Henry and Rosetta Robinson Callis. He was a farmer and rancher and a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Edna.

He is survived by his wife, Lovell Callis; daughter, Belinda Adams; three granddaughters, two grandsons, 13 great grandsons, 13 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sisters; brothers, and step-daughter Audrey Hines.

Funeral services were held Dec. 21 at Faith Temple COGIC with interment following in Kerr Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Andrew Jordan Jr., Tommy Brigham, Eldridge Morris, Markabrian Williams, Kimmitt Brigham, Gary Todd, and Jerry Todd. Honorary pallbearers were Rev. Rufus Diggs, Rev. E. C. Stewart, Cqulin Hubert, Donald R. William Jr., and Ervin Yates.

Lois Callis

Edna—Lois Callis, 68, of Edna died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004.

She was born Nov. 2, 1936, in Edna, to the late Wells and Emma Lee Haynes Jones. She was a retired nurse’s aide and a member of Scruggs United Methodist Church.

Survivors: daughters, LaWanda McKinney of Atlanta, and Glenda M. Lawson, Rita M. Green, and Tanja C. Green, all of Houston; sons, the Rev. Vernon Jones of Shepherd, Creston D. Callis of Victoria, Abrel Lee Callis of Little Creek, Va., and Warren Douglas Callis of Houston; 25 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Abraham Callis; sister, Pinkie McGuinnes; and brother, Frankie Jones.

Lonnie Callis, Jr.

Edna—Lonnie Callis Jr., 70, of Edna, died Wednesday in a Victoria hospital following a short illness.

He was born Aug. 9, 1919, in Jackson County, to the late Lonnie and Annie Watson Callis Callis Sr. The World War II veteran had been employed as a pipe layer with Mercer Construction until his retirement.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. Saturday at the Scruggs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Young officiating.

Burial will follow in Kerr Cemetery under the direction of Cook Butler Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Wayne, Frederick, Leslie, L. C. and Horace Callis and Otis Littlejohn.

Honorary pallbearers will be R. T. National Jr., W. C. and Douglas Tones, Felton Hopes and Edward Echols.

Mrs. Rhoda Callis

Edna—Funeral services for Mrs. Rhoda Callis, 88, of Edna will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Scruggs United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Billy Young officiating.

Burial will be in Kerr Cemetery under direction of the Cook-Butler Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Isaac, Sammie, Abraham, Lonnie and Hershel Callis Jr. and Lorrain Janes; and honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sedahlia Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Communion Stewards of the Scruggs church.

Mrs. Callis was a native of Jackson County, born March 15, 1892, and was the widow of the late Void Callis. She died Friday in a Ganado hospital.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Pearl Cook of Edna; three sons, Ernest and Eartell of San Antonio and Hershel Sr. of Edna; two sisters, Ms. Mary Hasting and Mrs. Sarah Glover, both of Houston; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Rosetta Callis

Edna—Funeral services for Rosetta Callis, 78, of Edna will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, with the Rev. Pat Griffin officiating.

Mrs. Callis was a native of Jackson County and lifelong resident of the county. She died Saturday in a Texas City hospital.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Serelda Caesar of Ganado and Mrs. Wilma Pettis of Texas City; five sons, Alden Green of Edna, Freddie and Griffin Callis of Los Angeles, Calif., Nealon Callis of Houston and Lealon Callis of Point Comfort; sister, Mrs. Ellen Hicks of Vanderbilt; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Tracy Clay Callis

Edna—Tracy Clay Callis, 37, of Edna, died Monday, May 14, 2001.

He was born Sept. 18, 1963, in Edna, to Josie Robinson of Edna and the late O. B. Callis. He was a laborer.

Survivors: mother; sisters, Theresa Callis of Houston and Debra Callis of Victoria; brothers, Horace Callis of Victoria and Ronald Callis of Edna.

Edith Lois Capak

Edna—Edith Lois Capak, 55, of Edna, died Friday, March 1, 2002.

She was born Jan. 30, 1947, in Edna, to the late Clarence Samuel and Mildred Gasch Fowler. She was a nurses aide with Home Health and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Survivors: husband, Hugh Louis “Butch” Capak; daughters, Shelia Fikes of Ganado and Annette Kolterman of Yoakum; step-daughters, Shanna Lopez of Victoria and Connie Sue Capak of Edna; son, Scott Becker of St. Louis, Mo.; sisters, Joyce Putnam and Joan Saunders, both of Edna; brother, Clarence Fowler of Edna; brother, Clarence Fowler of Edna; four grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents; and sister, Geraldine Priller.

Visitation will begin 9 a. m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Mr. Camp was born May 22, 1944 at Victoria and was a former resident of Ganado. He died Thursday in Austin.

2 Men Killed in Crash
Pickup Overturns Near Beaumont

Ronald Dale Rohan, 20, of 112 Aberdeen, and Clayton Carpenter II, 20, of Lolita, were killed early Friday morning in a traffic accident in Beaumont.

Their pickup truck rolled off a service road and overturned throwing both occupants out, according to The Associated Press.

Details of the accident could not be obtained from the Beaumont Police Department but a spokesman said it occurred in the 100 block of East Cardinal Street, which is part of a freeway system near the Lamar University campus. The collision occurred at 1:12 a. m.

Rohan was an employee of AC Co., a Victoria oilfield firm, and Carpenter was also an oilfield company employee, having worked in the Beaumont area the past two weeks.

Among Rohan’s survivors are his step-father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Lemke. His father, Alton Ed Rohan, died Jan. 9, 1969.

He was born Feb. 28, 1957, in Victoria, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p. m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tom Evens officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The body will lie in state until 2:45 p. m. Sunday at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel.

A prayer service will be held at 7:15 p. m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel.

The family requests that in lieu of the usual remembrances contributions be made to the Youth Activities Fund of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Surviving besides his parents are two sisters, Mrs. James “Joyce” Morris Jr. and Jeane Rohan, both of Victoria; a step-sister, Mrs. Robert “Janette” Germany of Houston; a brother, Roy Allen Rohan of Victoria; two step-brothers, Curtis Wayne Lemke of Victoria and Glenn Edward Lemke of Huffman, Tex. and his grandmothers, Mrs. Henry Neisser and Mrs. Edmund Rohan of Victoria.

Funeral services for Carpenter will be held at 4 p. m. Saturday at the Lolita United Methodist Church with the Rev. Calvin Peterson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Red Bluff Cemetery.

The body will lie in state until 2:30 p. m. at Jackson County Funeral Service in Edna. The family said friends who prefer may give memorials to the Lolita United Methodist Memorial Fund.

Carpenter, born Oct. 25, 1955, in San Benito, had lived in Lolita six years and attended Industrial High School at Vanderbilt.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Emma Joe Wheeler of Lolita; his father, Jack E. Carpenter of Harlingen; a son, Brandon Heath Carpenter, and two sisters, Lee Ann and Anita LaNell Carpenter, all of Lolita; a brother, Rusell Ray Carpenter of Houston, and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Cassall of Rio Hondo.

Nestor D. Castillo

Lolita—Nestor Daniel Castillo, 11, of Lolita, died Saturday, June 17, 2000.

He was born Feb. 3, 1989, in Harlingen, to Daniel and Jovita Rangel Castillo of Lolita. He was a student.

Survivors: parents; sister, Dayana Abigail Castillo of Lolita; brothers, Daniel Castillo Jr., Angel Joshua Castillo, Robert Carlos Castillo and William Miguel Castillo, all of Lolita; grandparents, Luis and Esperanza Martinez Castillo and Augustina Munoz Rangel, all of Monterrey, Mexico.

Velma Eileen Chalupsky

November 05, 1924 - December 16, 2020

Velma Eileen Chalupsky of The Woodlands passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020.

She was born November 5, 1924 in Comstock, Nebraska to Harold Vern Florida and Gladys Jackson. Velma was a retired teacher. She taught in several school systems from country schools to elementary schools in Nebraska, Wyoming, and New Mexico. She was employed in Omaha, Nebraska during World War II doing data processing. After moving to Edna, Texas she was employed at the Edna Herald as the society editor.

She is survived by her daughters, Ann Wilcox and husband Dave of Magnolia, Texas, and Sue Dillow and husband John of Gresham, Oregon; and son, Tom Chalupsky and wife Mary of Grand Island, Nebraska. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Chalupsky; and sisters, Pauline Waldmann, and Shirley Uphoff.

Pallbearers will be Roelyn Cuningham, Jake Chalupsky, Zac Chalupsky, Dillon Chalupsky, Michael Dillow, David Wilcox, Jeremiah Richards, John Bauer and Gerald Chalupsky.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22. A Rosary to be recited at 10:00 a.m. and Funeral Mass to begin at 10:30. All services will be at Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Edna. Reverend Michael Petering will be officiating.

Ruby S. Chaney

La Ward—Ruby S. Chaney, 81, of La Ward, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004.

She was born Feb. 6, 1923, in Atlanta, to the late Luther and Sally Goss Power. She was the owner of La Ward Café and a Baptist.

Survivors: daughters, Connie Jank of Victoria and Mary Parr of Eagle Lake; sons, Robert Chaney of La Ward and Joe Chaney Sr. of Victoria; sisters, Edna Harris of Fayetteville, Ga., Ethel Phillips of Giverdale, Ga., and Charlie Ross of Charleston, S. Lolita—Elizabeth Ann Clark, 64, of Lolita, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006.

She was born July 27, 1941, in Sealy, to the late Adolph and Caroline Surovcak Krchnak. She was in the music ministry, was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, SPJST for 50 years, a Catholic Religious Education Coordinator at St. Agnes and St. John Bosco, Trinitarian Lay Person, Youth Ministry, Certified Foster Parent, and Pastorial Institute Course.

Survivors: husband, Edward Clark of Lolita; daughters, Caroline Mader of Weehawken, N. J., Teresa Mader of Albuquerque, N. M., Danielle Wright of Bay City, and Suzanne Davidson of League City; stepdaughters, Terri Warwas and Susan Matejek, both of Cuero; sons, Tommy Mader of Waco and Andrew Mader of Lolita; sisters, Theresa Jurick of Port Costa, Calif., Ann Schuarte of Austin, Sister Margeta Krchnak of San Antonio, and Louise Krchnak of Austin; brothers, Adolph Krchnak of Austin, and Lodgie Krchnak of Pearland; and eleven grandchildren.

Ray Clements

La Ward—Ray Clements, 79, of La Ward died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000.

He was born April 1, 1921, in Jackson County, to the late Isaac B. and Lou Rogers Clements. He was a farmer and rancher, a member of the Texas Cattlemen’s Association and was named Jackson County Farmer of the Year. He was a 1938 graduate of EHS and a member of First Baptist Church of Lolita. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Disabled Veterans and an honorary member of VFW.

Survivors: wife, Minnie Vee Archer Clements; daughters, Patricia Lindley of Louise and Peggy Frenzel of Victoria; son, Dalton Clements of El Toro; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents; sisters, Anna Lankford, Fredda DeNeefe, Mabel Hall and Mary Ellen Cheney; brothers, I. B. Clements Jr., and Roy P. Clements; and two great-grandchildren.

Jonathan S. Clower III

Cuero—Jonathan Shelby Clower III, 79, of Cuero, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002.

He was born Jan. 17, 1923, in Paducah, to the late Jonathan Shelby II and Virginia Gafford Clower. He was a musician and a member of VFW No. 3278 in Brownwood and Disabled America Veterans.

Survivors: wife, Velma Clower; daughters, Modena Lee Hamby of Nevada, Julia Faye Vickery of Olivia and Jonnie Jo Ryan of Denver; step-daughter, Cherry L. Lawson of Skidmore; sisters, Virginia Briggs of Mohave Valley, Ariz., Mary Simmons of Needles, Calif. and Alice Gazaway of Austin; brothers, Earl Clower of Sacramento, Calif. and Ervin Clower of Gladewater; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services Held For James Cobbs, 76, Retired Farmer

Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p. m. at the Lolita Baptist Church for James P. Cobbs, 76, longtime Jackson County resident. Rev. H. O. Bilderback officiated.

Burial was in Red Bluff Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Roy Tate, John Fitzpatrick, A. Young, John Talbert, L. W. Martin and Quinton Thedford.

Mr. Cobbs was born May 22, 1888 in Alabama, and had lived in Jackson County the past 52 years. He was a retired farmer. He was a longtime member of the Lolita Baptist Church.

He is survived by three brothers, Frank Cobbs of Lolita, Cloyd of Fort Worth, and Hela of Victoria.

Services Held For Mrs. Frank Cobbs, Lolita Resident – Opal Pearl Cobbs

Mrs. Opal Pearl Cobbs, 59, of Lolita, wife of T. F. “Frank” Cobbs, passed away Saturday at 6:20 p. m. in a Houston hospital. Funeral services were held at the Lolita Baptist Church at 3 p. m. Monday, with Rev. Holland and Rev. Everett officiating. Interment was in Red Bluff Cemetery.

Mrs. Cobbs was born in Louisville, Kentucky Oct. 4, 1901 and moved to Jackson County in 1916. She married T. F. Cobbs in 1918 and they spent their married life in this county. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lolita.

Mrs. Cobbs is survived by her husband and one son, T. F. Jr. of Pearland; two daughters, Mrs. Sunshine Root of Houston and Mrs. Jessie Deyton of Lolita, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Roy Tate, Clarence McFeron, Quinton Thedford, John Talbott, W. G. Gayle, Grover Klaus; honorary pallbearers were B. E. Carnes, William Thedford, R. T. Walker, J. W. Klaus, Jack Anders, T. G. Jones.

T. F. Cobbs Jr.

Pearland—T. F. Cobbs Jr., 71, of Pearland, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004.

He was born Nov. 29, 1933, in Lolita, to the late Frank and Opal Cobbs.

Survivors: wife, Dorothy Cobbs; sons, Terry Cobbs and David Cobbs; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors 6 – 8 p. m. tonight at SouthPark Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 10 a. m. Friday at the funeral home.

Billy Franklin Cochran

Billy Franklin Cochran, age 80, died July 9, 2006. Born April 18, 1926, at Kingsville, Texas, the youngest of three children born to William Ross Cochran and Zola Scott Cochran. Preceded in death by parents, brother K. Keith Cochran of San Antonio, sister, Major Audrey Cochran Parker U. S. Army Nurse Corps (retired), Emerald Bay, Texas.

Educated in Kingsville public schools and moved to Edna in 1943. Attended Texas A&M University, College Station. Employed by Humble Oil and Refining Company (now Exxon), for the period 1947 through 1968 in Corpus Christi, Brownsville, and Edna.

Married the former Marjorie Elisabeth Peaster on September 18, 1952 in Corpus Christi.

Former Edna businessman, former distributor for Humble Oil; served as Jackson County Auditor from 1969 to 1973; appointed Tax Officer for Edna Independent School District and the City of Edna 1973 to 1983. Retired from the tax office in 1983 and was associated with Jackson County State Bank as Vice President. Former member of the Edna Lions Club; former trustee for the Board of Trustees of the Edna Independent School District, serving as secretary; served as Board Chairman of the Jackson County Appraisal District; active in Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, serving as Chairman of the Chamber’s Ambassadors Club for a number of years; Director of the Texana Museum. Member of the First Baptist Church, Edna, since 1955, serving on a number of committees, including the Finance Committee, and Building Committee.

Survived by wife, Marjorie Peaster, of Edna, daughters Patricia Kay Manzo and husband Anthony of Oakridge, TN; Terri Ann Damborsky and husband Ronnie of Inez, TX. Grandchildren Melaine Oldacre, Brian and Brett Manzo, and Kyle and Ryan Damborsky.

Memorias: First Baptist Church of Edna Memorial Fund, or donor’s choice.

Private interment at Red Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home, Edna, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, Edna, at 2:00 p. m. on Tuesday, July 11, with Rev. Danny Reeves officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, George Frazier, Patsy Porche, Chili Ray Porche, Ronald Clinkscales, Monnie Larson, Glenn Martin, Sharon Whitley, Joyce Clark, Ike Peterson, and Ray Brundrett.

Martha Coleman

Vanderbilt—Martha “Evelyn” Johnson Coleman, 75, of Vanderbilt, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007 in Victoria. She was born April 13, 1932, in Jonesboro, Ark. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her daughters, Connie Jean Wheeley and La Verne Shelton, both of Cuero; sons, Clay Coleman of Sugar Land, William Coleman of Morales, and Carl Coleman of Vanderbilt; 27 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, H. L. Coleman.

Visitation will be 6 – 8 p. m. today at Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2152.

The funeral service will be at 2 p. m. on Saturday at Vanderbilt Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Woods, David Wheeley, Frank Shelton, Timmy Hadley, Sonny Hadley, Roger Keen.

Her grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Pearl Cook

Edna—Pearl Cook, 73, of Edna, died Sunday in Victoria hospital.

A native of Jackson County, she was born Dec. 19, 1914, to the late Boyd and Rhoda Jackson Callis.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. Thursday at the Scruggs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Barbara Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Kerr Cemetery under the direction of Cook-Butler Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Hershell Callis Jr., Hubert Lee, Dwight, Leslie and Abrel Callis and Robert Foley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lorrain Jones, Clifton McGrew, James Harris, Loyal Stafford, Eugene and Bishop Gipson and Thomas Dean.

Surviving are her husband, Vollie Cook of Edna; and three brothers, Ernest Callis of San Antonio, and Hershell and Eartell Callis, both of Edna.

Aaron F. Corbin

La Ward—Aaron Francis Corbin, 92, of La Ward, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006.

He was born Aug. 26, 1913, in Houston, to the late Ira C. and Olga Corbin. He was the owner and an operator of A. F. Corbin Heating & Air, Inc. in Houston and a member of First Baptist Church of La Ward and Blessing VFW Post No. 0649. He was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II as gunner in B 52 Combat Fortress.

Survivors: daughter, Nell Ross of San Diego; and one grandchild.

Preceded in death by: wife, Virgie Artencey Steffaneuer Corbin.

Visitation will be 6 – 8 p. m. tonight at First Baptist Church of La Ward.

Services will be 10 a. m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. B. J. Hall officiating.

Virgie A. Corbin

La Ward—Virgie A. Corbin, 88, of La Ward, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002.

She was born Oct. 6, 1913, in Houston. She was a homemaker and a member of La Ward Baptist Church.

Survivors: husband, Aaron F. Corbin; daughter, Nell Marie Ross of San Diego, Calif.; and one grandchild.

Preceded in death by: two sisters; and two brothers.

Visitation will be 5 p. m. tonight at La Ward Baptist Church.

Services will be 10:30 a. m. Tuesday at the church.

Jimmy B. Corbitt

Edna—Jimmy Corbitt, 59, of Edna, died April 19. 2000.

He was born Oct. 9, 1940, in Shelby County, to Helen Roberts Corbitt of Edna and the late Maurice Corbitt. He was a retired measurement technician for United Gas Pipeline and was a member of Eagle Scouts of Edna.

Survivors: sons, Craig Corbitt of Edna and Bryan Corbitt of Houston; two grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: father, Brother, Royce Corbitt.

Shirley Wayne Coulter

San Patricio—S. Wayne Coulter, 69, of San Patricio, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004.

He was born April 18, 1935, in Crossett, Ark., to the late James Frank and Venna Camp Coulter. He was a gunnery sergeant for the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a retired guager for Permean Corporation.

Survivors: daughter, Diana Havelan of Tallahassee, Fla., sons, Scott Coulter of Edna and David Wayne Coulter of San Antonio; sister, Kathleen Hampton of Florida; brothers, Norman Coulter of Wimberly, Lavern Coulter of Portland, and Chuck Coulter and Don L. Coulter, both of Aransas Pass; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: sister, Barbara Jean Coulter; and brothers, Jake Coulter and Grady Coulter.

Visitation will be 12:30 – 2 p. m. today at Oaklawn Funeral Home chapel.

V. J. Cornejo

Edna—V. J. “Johnnie” Cornejo, 82, of Edna, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002.

He was born Feb. 14, 1920, in Bartlesville, Okla., to the late Pete and Ventura Santa Cruz Cornejo. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Force, serving in WWII. He was a member of VFW Post 8556 of Lolita and Baptist Temple Church.

Survivors: wife, Louise Baker Cornejo; daughter, Connie Frances Baker of San Angelo; stepdaughters, Cathy Nalley of Akins, S. C. and Rhonda Emerson of Spring; sons, John Edward Cornejo of Clarksville, Tenn., Larry Ray Cornejo of Victoria and Richard Glenn Cornejo of Edna; stepson, Troyce Emerson of Mt. Belvieu and Gaylor “Buddy” Emerson of Highland; sisters, Clara Moore of Universal City, Okla., Terry Widowski of Amarillo and Dora Horsman of Bartlesville, Okla.; brother, Albert Cornejo of Glenpool, Okla.; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: first wife, Maida Ruth Jones Stolley; parents; six sisters; and two brothers.

Visitation will be 7 – 9 p. m. Tuesday at Baptist Temple Church of Edna, the Rev. Danny Wilson officiating.

James R. Crawford

James R. Crawford of Bonham, Texas, went to be with our Lord, February 8, 2019, at 17:14. He was an Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Crawford, daughters Kathe Abernathy (Jon), and Laura Todd (Casey); sister Kathy Cantu; four grandchildren, Ambyr Valentine (Aaron), Ravyn Marconi (John), Dylon Jamison and Kaden Todd, three great-grandchildren and nephews and nieces.     Memorial services will be held at a later date, to be determined, with family and friends.     In lieu of flowers, please send donations to VA Fisher House, 7485 Warzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78229.

Thomas W. Crisp

Port Lavaca—Thomas W. Crisp, 65, of Port Lavaca passed away, April 18, 2008. He was born Oct. 6, 1942, in Arenosa, to the late Ray and Ruth Browning Crisp. Mr. Crisp retired after 35 years with Entex. Thomas loved fishing, hunting and gardening and was a jack of all trades.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene Peavy Crisp of Port Lavaca; daughters, Tanya Taylor and husband Dee of Wharton, Terrie Braunholz and husband Steven of Cypress and Tammie Williamson of Port Lavaca; sons, Matt Crisp and wife Karen of Beeville, Tim Luttrall and wife Marti of Rochelle and Tony Luttrall and wife Audra of Sealy; grandchildren, Stuart and wife Christie, Cori, Peavy, Shera, Donovan, Luke, Brittany and Dalton; sister Laverne Robinson and husband James of Edna; brother, Bobby Crisp and wife Helen of Inez.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his brother, Glen Crisp.

A viewing will be held from 12 p. m. to 8 p. m., Monday, April 21, 2008 at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m., Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Red Bluff Cemetery in Edna.

Ricky J. Cunningham Sr.

Ricky James Cunningham Sr., 47, of Victoria, died Monday, June 20, 2005.

He was born Dec. 10, 1957, in Ganado, to the late Sturgis Earl Sr. and Betty Beth Wiegand Cunningham. He was an oil rig operator for Nueces Petroleum and a Baptist.

Survivors: companion, Christine Marie Lockstedt; son, Ricky James Cunningham Jr. of Edna; sisters, Cynthia Muschalek of Edna and Cheryl Fojtik of Marthasville, Mo.; and brothers, Charles Allen Cunningham of Debeque, Colo., Sturgis Earl Cunningham Jr. and Joe Carl Cunningham, both of Edna.

Coby R. Cutbirth

Edna—Coby Ray Cutbirth, 18, of Edna, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005.

He was born Nov. 16, 1987, in Mansfield, Mo., to Shirley J. Moore of Edna and the late Alfred L. Cutbirth.

Survivors: sisters, Tabetha Moore of Edna and Lisa McLean of Okla; brothers, Jason Barton and Rex Moore both of Edna, and Michael Cutbirth of Okla.

Preceded in death by: sister, Melissa Cutbirth; and brothers, Alfred Cutbirth Jr. and Albert Cutbirth.
