Concepcion Cardenas, Constantino Montelongo, Glafiro Montelongo
Three Mexicans Die In Accident

Sunday morning about 10 o’clock three Edna Mexicans were killed in an auto wreck on Highway 12 just west of the Navidad river bridge. Those killed were C[oncepcion] Cardenas, C[onstantino] Montelongo and his 12 year old son, L[afiro] Montelongo. All were tenants on the Fred Westhoff Ranch.

There were nine Mexicans in the truck. They were returning from a trip to Ganado. While crossing the relief bridge west of the Navidad River bridge a car driven by Mexicans came up from behind and attempted to pass the truck. The car ran into the truck turning it over against the concrete banisters of the bridge, killing three of the occupants and injuring three more, one seriously. The 12-year-old boy’s head was bashed against the concrete, taking the top off entirely.

The Mexicans who occupied the car, were placed in the Edna jail by Sheriff Hugh White.

Cardenas and his family have been on the Westhoff place several years and were considered thrifty and substantial Mexican tenants.

Robert Delrose Carroll

On March 4th, 1950, the Death Angel came to our community, and took from us one of the very earliest settlers of Francitas, Mr. Robert Delrose Carroll, who had passed his ninety-first birthday in January this year. Mr. Carroll had been ailing for many months and was ready for the call home, after many years of usefulness as a good, honest upright man.

He took an active part in the improvement of his home town, and until recent years he always was called upon to give his opinion in civic affairs. I once heard some one say "When Mr. Carroll says 'no' he means 'no.' He never says 'yes' unless he is firmly convinced he is in the right." This firmness of character drew many to him for advice and counsel.

We have lost a good friend and shall miss him, but we do not wish him back to suffer pain, but rather do we rejoice that the Master took him "over there" where pain and sorrow are no more known.

He same to Texas from Wisconsin several years ago, and had lived just south of town ever since there has been a town here.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mrs. Lena Carroll, a son, Lawrence Carroll and one daughter, Mrs. Agnes Carroll Wofford, and two little grandchildren, Vivian and Carson Wofford.

To these friends we extend our sympathy.

Funeral services were held from the Triska Funeral Home in El Campo. Interment was made in the "Garden of Memories" Cemetery just out of El Campo on Sunday, March 5th.

To his loved ones we can but say:

"He's not dead he's just away.
We laid him away
Just under the sod,
But his soul is yonder,
Home with God."

A FRIEND

Debbie Anne Clark

Debbie Anne Clark, 65 of Morales, has exited her hell-raising wornout ol’ body. She never regretted treating her body the way she did for she lived the life she wanted and don’t dare try to tell her different.

Debbie passed away August 29, 2018 surrounded by her Queen B’s and her very patient, loving daughters. She never met a stranger, and wanted to carry home every animal, stray or not, even if her daughter Justine would tell her no. She then would call Michelle to drive 6 hours to come pick up a cat.

She was born October 21, 1952 to Oscar and Peggy Clark of Edna. Debbie was a Badass mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loving woman in general. Strays were always welcome at Grammy’s house – 4-legged, 2-legged, and even the 3-legged goat named George; not to mention the smuggled parrot from the Amazon. Even though George passed away, newbies were always welcome. Her heart was as big as the states she lived in whether it was Colorado, New Mexico, Mississippi, Louisiana and the state she truly called home – TEXAS.

Debbie always had open arms for anyone in need, and would give the shirt off her back to support such orphans, for sometimes that’s all she had. However, if she took you in, you always knew she would ride it out to the end. (Including cheap menudo and margaritas that sometimes were good and others not so much).     She is survived by her daughters Justine Strelczyk, Michelle Sieber, adopted daughter Misty Wells, and step-daughter Crystal Graham; grandchildren Emma Tye, Jessie Kay, Cole Sieber, Kyra Zambrano, Jonathan Snyder, Kelsi Snyder, Nathanuel Gutierrez and Denzial Edwards, great-grandchildren Addison, Coleson, Emersyn Sieber, Malarie Jimenez, Serenity Zambrano, Ty David Jimenez and TJ Partida; brother Rusty (Rosalie) Clark of Orange Grove, Texas; and sister Tracey Bergstrom of Victoria; and Joseph and Mary Sieber of White Oak, Texas; numerous nephews, nieces, and people we probably forgot.

She is proceeded in death by her parents and her guardian angel Ty Young.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. at the Tipton’s Barn, 7855 CR 283 in Morales.

Honorary pallbearers are Lane Tipton, Jeff Tipton, Amos Zatopek, Justin Airhart, Misty Wells, and Gary Nupp.

Services were entrusted to Russell Todish of Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2152.
