New Church of Christ building is shown in this Herald photo. The new edifice, erected by Mercer Construction Co., was opened Sunday with a singing in the afternoon. Robert McDonald is the minister. An official of the Scruggs Chapel Methodist Church in Edna reports the congregation was organized in 1883 and met for years in homes and various buildings. Then the current church building was completed in 1913 on land donated by Bob Smith.--Victoria Advocate, September 27, 1980

Colored Vacation Bible School

A Vacation Church School, which began July 19th, is being held at the Scruggs Colored Methodist church for all colored boys and girls.

The school will have its commencement program tomorrow night at 8:00 o’clock.

The enrollment to date is 101 with a fine crew of teachers, sponsored by the Presbyterian Women of the Church, under the direction of Mrs. E. H. Seidel.

The teachers are as follows:

Beginner’s Department: Mrs. A. B. Gholson, assisted by Johnsie Tatum and Jean Allen.

Primary department: Mary Ann Tisdale, assisted by Dixie White and Wilma Howard.

Junior Department: Mrs. Worth Thomas, assisted by Edith Randall.

Pioneer Department: Mrs. Bill Fenner and Mrs. Jim Fenner, assisted by Earnestine Chinn and Ivy Mae Henry.

Miss Elizabeth Ramsay of Laredo came from the Assembly’s Training School, Richmond, Va., to direct the school.—Contributed.
