Dr. Presley Kinner Miller

Dr. Presley Kinner Miller was born in Missouri on April 18, 1823. He was educated in the best of schools in that state and grew to manhood there. After he became of age he went to Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, graduated and received his diploma in 1860.

He joined the Confederate Army in 1861. He probably held the rank of Captain, as customary to one in the medical profession. He served his country well throughout the war.

He married Betty Miller during the first year of the war, and to this union two children were born---Bell and Jim. In 1866, he and his family moved to Morales, Texas. He began the practice of medicine in the northern part of the county, and his practice grew until it extended to all parts of the county.

His oldest child, Bell Miller, died when almost grown, and Jim Miller married Frances Fought about 1881.

To this union seven children were born—Collett, John, Mary, Jim, Bicy, Ida and Addye Mae. All are still living [in 1938] except Collett, who died in 1901, and Jim, who died in 1918.

Dr. Miller married again, taking as his wife Bevy Ann Prior, of Old Boxville, Texas (now Speaks, Texas). They had one son, P. K. Miller.

Dr. Miller built a drug store about 1867 at Morales. The building also served as a telegraph office for the first line in Jackson County between Victoria and Columbus. His old drug store is still standing and is being used as a residence.

Dr. Miller died in 1903, at Morales, at the age of 80 years, after having practiced medicine for forty-three years, most of the time in Jackson County.
