Mrs. Bronaugh at Edna

Edna, Texas, March 18.--Mrs. L. C. Bronaugh, a highly esteemed lady of this county, died at the home of E. T. Joines, near La Ward, Saturday morning. Mrs. Bronaugh was a veteran teacher, having taught in this and surrounding counties for many years. She was at her duties in the La Ward school when stricken with her last illness on Tuesday. Three children...[Mrs.] R. A. Drake and [Mrs.] Ed Holloway and Mrs. W. C. Bronaugh.

Clara Drake

Edna, Texas, December 3.--Mrs. R. A. Drake died here Tuesday night at the family residence after a short illness, and was interred at the Edna cemetery the next afternoon, Rev. A. Y. Old officiating. Mrs. Drake leaves a large family.

Robert Drake, a son of the late R. A. Drake, died at the family residence last night after an illness of a few days with pneumonia. Decedent was about 30 years of age and was the chief support of a family of younger brothers and sisters. The funeral will take place this afternoon from the family home.

Last Rites Held Here Tuesday for W. C. Bronaugh

W. C. Bronaugh, 74, employee of R. A. Drake’s, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home Monday at noon.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 5 o’clock from the Slavik Funeral  Home. Rev. Carl Schlomach, Baptist pastor, officiated and burial was in the Edna Cemetery.

Pallbearers were R. A. Drake of Ganado, W. C. Drake of Yorktown, J. E. Drake of Dallas, K. A. Drake of Edna and G. I. Brundrett and J. V. Brundrett of Rockport.

Mr. Bronaugh was born January 3, 1877 In Old Texana, his parents being prominent pioneer residents of this section. When he was still a small boy, he moved to Edna and his entire life was spent in this city. In fact, he was one of Edna’s oldest citizens in point of continuous residence. For almost sixty years Mr. Bronaugh had been connected with the business interests of the town—as salesman for different stores and at times in business for himself, and down through the years he was recognized as a dependable, capable and efficient employee and a good citizen to every sense of the word.

A quiet, unassuming man he devoted much time and work with his church. At one time he served as organist for the Baptist Church for many years.

On June 5, 1918, he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Brown of Rockport.

Surviving are his wife; a sister, Mrs. R. E. Holloway of Edna, and four nephews and four nieces.

Williams and Joe Williams of Ganado, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Drake .and daughters, Betty and Dianne, of Dallas, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Lassiter and son, Johnnie, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Mullinax, Mr. and Mrs. Walter W. Lassiter and son, Walter, Jr., also of Rockport.

Funeral Services Held Sunday For R. E. Holloway, 83

Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock for Richard Edward Holloway, 83, retired farmer, who died at his home here Saturday at 5 p. m. He had been in failing health for some time.

Rites were held at the Slavik Funeral Home and burial was in the Edna Cemetery. Rev. Carl Schlomach officiated and he was assisted by Rev. I. E. Walker.

Pallbearers were his four nephews, Arthur, Joe, Ollie and Clyde Holloway, and two of Mrs. Holloway's nephews, Richard B. and R. A. Drake.

Mr. Holloway, a highly esteemed citizen of Edna since 1896, was born July 6, 1868, in Person County, North Carolina. He came to Texas as a babe in arms, moving to Edna in 1896. He married Miss Mary Bronaugh of Edna on December 30, 1897. He farmed during his early years and later confined his activities to real estate to some extent. A member of the Baptist Church, he served as church clerk for six years at one time.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary B. Holloway; the four nephews mentioned above, and one niece, Mrs. Laura Mae Stevens of Edna.
