Sarah Margaret Pyle
Daughter of Thomas M. Pyle and Margaret Peggy Moseley
Born: about 1815 in either Georgia or Alabama
Died: 13 Mar 1885

Sarah Margaret Pyle Moseley, sister of James Peter Pyle and Jack Pyle, was, in her latter years, a resident of Keith and Grimes County. She was born about 1815 in either Georgia or Alabama.

About 1833 she married William Shirley Moseley, born 1810. William Sh. Moseley died September 20, 1857 in Beaumont, Texas. She then married George A. Pattillo in 1859. The reocrds of Jefferson County, Texas, indicate that Samuel Remley, husband of her daughter Helen, wanted guardianship of the five minor Moseley children.

In October 1860, Sarah took her minor children and moved back to Jefferson County from Orange County where she and George had been living. In the 1870 census of Jefferson County, she was living among her children there. She died March 13, 1885 at the home of her daughter, Willie Ann Trant.

Her children in Grimes County were as follows: Sarah Margaret, born August 1830 and died after 1900, married William T. Pyle and had Georgianna, who married Jason Hicks; William Shirley Moseley, born December 27, 1855 and died 1933, married Jane ?; Sarah H. Sally, born 1861 and died 1950, married John H. Churchwell; John born about 1863 and died young; Robert (Bob), born 1867 and died 1934, married Mattie "Babe" Turner; Roxie, born September 1879, married Arthur Chaney; Elizabeth (Lizzie), born 1871, married E. B. Deason.

James Peter Pyle

Born: about 24 Mar 1819 in Alabama
Died: 26 Oct 1900

James Peter Pyle came to Grimes County about 1867 and settled in Keith. He was born 24 Mar 1819 in Alabama. He married Elizabeth Daughtry and was the father of four children.

Jame Peter Pyle enlisted in the year 1862 in Company K, Walkers Division, and continued until the end of the war in the Fifth Regiment of Company K. On September 28, 1899, his application for a Civil War pension was approved. On his application, his physical condition was stated as being very feeble with a loss of eyesight caused by old age. He died October 26, 1900 and was buried in Martins Prairie Cemetery.

Samuel Andrew Jackson Pyle, brother of James Peter and Sarah Margaret Moseley, was born in Alabama about 1818. He married Almyra Abbot in DeSota Parish, Louisiana, February 26, 1838. They had one child that grew to maturity. She was Louisa, born about 1842. She married James Ackerman Vaughn, November 22, 1858, also in Desota Parish. To them was born one child, Susan A., born January 6, 1865, in Desota Parish. Almyra died, and Jack (for so he was called) married Mary Ann Hendricks, October 17, 1848, in DeSota Parish. They had six children, namely Samuel A. J. , Jr. , born about 1849, and married Ellen F. Pace. Milford (Dump(, born August 1855, married Laura A. Pace, Frances married Robert Burns, died 1929, and was buried at Martins Prairie Cemetery. James Marion, born August 10, 1856, died October 21, 1921, and was buried at Concord Cemetery, Iola, Texas. He married Bell Zoria Wells. Jefferson Davis, born about 1873, died September, 1903, in Rosebud, Texas, as a result of being gored by a bull. He married Lorena Gorbitt. All of these children were born in DeSota Parish. Mary R. was the only child to be born in Grimes County at Keith. She married Alf H. Grissitt. All of these marriages were in Grimes County.
