Dan D. Dugan, Well Known Citizen, Dead

Dan Dudley Dugan, 69 years old, died at his home in Shannon Heights, North Sherman Wednesday afternoon at 4:40 o'clock, following an illness of several weeks.
Funeral services will be held at Travis Street Methodist church Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. C.A. Spragins, pastor, and burial will be in West Hill cemetery.
Dan Dugan, as he was known and loved by the people of Sherman, was a native of Grayson county,  His father, the late George C. Dugan, and his mother, the late Mrs. Harriet J. Dugan were early settlers of the county, and Mr. Dugan was born on the old Dugan plantation near Bells.  He came to Sherman with his parents when sixteen years of age, and after finishing the schools of this city, went to Lexington, Ky., where he spent four years, graduating with the A.B. degree.
Returning home, he entered upon business and farming pursuits, and was successfull in his undertakings.
Early in life, he joined the Southern Methodist church, and has been a faithful and consistent member.  He took a pride in his city, and was progressive and had a part in all of the enterprises that redounded to the good of Sherman.  He served Sherman as an alderman for many years, and was chairman of the of the sewerage committee, and Sherman's splendid sewerage system was put in under his guidance.
He was a bachelor, never having married, but he took a great interest in his nieces and nephews, and was beloved by them only as a wise counselor and kinsman can be loved by those with whom he advised and helped.
All Sherman mourns his death, for he was a man of integrity, of pleasing personality, always ready to do his part, and alway ready to help those who needed help.
He is survived by three sisters, as follows: Mrs. L. DeVere Hamburge of Tuscon, Arizona, Mrs. H. Clay Humphreys of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. G.A. Shannon of Sherman.
He also has a number of nieces and nephews, being an uncle of Haynes Dugan, former city clerk of Sherman, and George Dugan of Bells.
