SHERMAN - Services for Jennie Lee Mickens, 99-year-old Sherman resident, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 14 at Greater New Hope Baptist Church. Mrs. Mickens passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the Homestead of Denison.  Officiating was Rev. Walker, assistant pastor, Rev. Wardell Hunter of Olive Grove Baptist Church in Dallas and Rev. Roderick Shepard Sr. of Daniel Gray CME in Sherman. Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. 
Mrs. Mickens was born on June 13, 1910 in Whiterock, daughter of Ben and Ella Luper and attended Whiterock Public School. She married Louis Mickens on November 17, 1928 in Sherman. He preceded her in death. 
She was a member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church. 
Mrs. Mickens is survived by her sons, Louis Mickens Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Marion G. Mickens of Sherman; daughter, Mariann Casey of Sherman; sister, Ocie Curry of Kansas City, Missouri; 10 grandchildren 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. 



Funeral services for Marion G. Mickens, 89, were held Tuesday morning, December 18, 2018 at Waldo Funeral Chapel.  Rev. Michael Braxton, Sr. officiated.  Burial was in West Hill Cemetery.  He transitioned from time to eternity on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman.
