Ruth Wallin Hastings, 77, passed away on Friday, Jan. 1, 2010. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Neill Morgan officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. 
The family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 -8 p.m. 
Ruth was born on Jan. 4, 1932, in Marshall, N.C. to Roy and Helen Wallin Fain. She was educated in Unicoi County High School and Nursing School in Spartanburg, S.C. She married J. Willis Hastings on May 2, 1954 in Erwin, Tenn. He preceded her in death in 1998. 
Ruth and Willis moved to Sherman in the mid-1950s. While living in Sherman she had achieved prominence as a watercolorist and ceramist. She was a signature member of the Southwest Watercolorist Society (SWS), Dallas and a member of several galleries including Images Gallery in Denison. She was also a member of the Sherman Art League. 
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a grandson, Ellery Hastings. She is survived by two sons, Mark Hastings of Plano, and Paul Hastings and wife Laurie of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a daughter, Helen Hastings of New Mexico; a brother Edison Wallin and wife Imogene of Unicoi, Tenn.; a sister, Edith Edwards and husband Hartsell; two grandchildren, Preston Hastings of Nacogdoches and Austin Hastings of Arlington; and several nieces and nephews. 
There will be a showing of Ruth's artwork at Images Gallery starting Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010.
